- PHD Computer Science Program Personal Statement
XXXX University is my first choice among doctoral programs in Computer Science for several reasons ranging from the location to the sheer excellence of your program. I have been following the work of Dr. XXXX and Dr. XXXX over the past several years. I especially appreciate Dr. X XXX's recent paper on auto-assist frameworks, which accelerate the training of neural nets by extracting virtual instances from the original network and training a lightweight model for faster neural activity. I also especially appreciate the work of Dr. XXXX on weighted random forests to improve arrhythmia classification and a new weighted algorithm for better arrhythmia recognition and reduce false alarms by applying the proposed algorithm for each tree in the random forest and further comprehensively examining optimal parameters for tuning. In the future, I want to continue my research, combining machine learning with other technologies and producing solutions for real-world problems as I derive my inspiration from the world around me. In India, my father was selected for a scholarship for graduate studies in the USA. However, my grandfather, from a small village, could not raise the plane fare, and my father lost out on this excellent opportunity. He went on to help my mother get a good education in psychology, and both parents have been especially keen to support me in my teaching. In the 11th grade, in 2010, I was first diagnosed with a solitary dysfunctional kidney. I spent most of that year roaming from one hospital to another to get the correct diagnosis and treatment, as there were no excellent hospitals or doctors in my town. This incident broke my parents. After getting better, I worked hard. completed my high school studies and was accepted to the XXXX College of Engineering. My health issues continued to take a toll on my academic performance, but I never gave up and kept working towards my goal. These days, I manage my disease, so, while challenging, it no longer significantly impacts my ability to perform professionally. I am the only person who turned down an offer from IBM, which pays near the top in India, to accept a position as a Research Associate at one of the most prestigious universities in my country. Later, working at IIT Delhi, I had the opportunity to meet faculty who had done their Ph.D. at high-ranking universities like Stanford and Texas A&M and work alongside Ph.D. students from various universities and backgrounds. This position cemented my desire to pursue an MS in the US, following the example of those around me. I wanted to have that same level of expertise and confidence in my area of computer science. After getting admitted to XXXX State, I contacted Dr. XXXX, who was heading the compilers lab at the university, and he accepted my request to join his team. He offered me a research assistant position after only one semester of volunteer work. I particularly enjoyed coding up the solutions, and I could present my work as an independent study since my professor was going on a sabbatical. While working on my independent study, fully immersed in parallel programming, my disease returned vigorously, and I earned an F for the course. Of course, I was deeply saddened. My only hope was a transplant, which I have now had and have been certified to return to my career by my marvelous physicians and surgeons. I am a textbook case of success in kidney transplantation. After my professor left on sabbatical, I focused on working on improving my grades by retaking two courses and earning a B in machine learning while volunteering with another professor. Thankfully, the professor I worked with developed a project that needed machine learning knowledge and asked me if I would like to take on the project. I studied various machine learning algorithms in detail as I had to implement a few of them to test my datasets. While working on this project, my knowledge from machine learning courses came in handy. The more I studied machine learning algorithms and their applications, my interest grew. While working at Orby, where I was working as a machine learning engineer, I further realized the strength of technology and had a desire to explore and combine machine learning with other technologies. I wanted to use machine learning and big data to improve and optimize data handling through machine learning; I also saw numerous opportunities where machine learning could help run data analytics on big data. I wanted to explore and maximize image recognition and study generative adversarial networks (GAN) and optimize them or develop a new idea. I tried to improvise, optimize, and make machine learning more secure. With interviews from companies like Apple, Google, Uber, and Nvidia, my kidney gave up in January of 2019, and I had no choice but to return to India to cover the cost of my dialysis. After a year of waiting for a donor, I got my transplant surgery and soon fully recovered. I hope to hit the ground running in the Ph.D. Program in Computer Science at UXXX. Thank you for considering my application. PHD Computer Science Program Personal Statement #machinelearning #phd #computerscience #personalstatement #purpose #samples #examples
- Sample Diversity Statement for Graduate School, Korean, 300 Words
Flying from Seoul to Baltimore to attend Johns Hopkins felt as intergalactic as transcontinental. Vividly aware now that I was the first person in my family to attend college in the US, I had become a trailblazer and felt it frightening at first. Generally, doing my best to avoid Koreans so that I could speak English exclusively, I soaked up the vast range of diversity in America that filled my heart with songs and my dreams of multicultural celebrations, people of all colors, languages, and backgrounds. Within months if not weeks upon arrival, I was already taking it upon myself to extend a helping hand to those less fortunate than myself of any ethnic background or language. I have had the opportunity to directly mentor a high school dropout from East Baltimore who wanted to improve his employment prospects. My goal was to help develop a curriculum for his GED preparation and gain a holistic awareness of the challenge in the design and implementation of the program. He earned his GED certificate in 2 months, and I had an opportunity to learn about the harsh realities of America’s inner cities and the unique challenges in education for inner-city populations. I also seek lifetime volunteer engagement in this area alongside my professional career. I am currently engaged in research with my advisor designed to shed light on why people find themselves motivated to help marginalized communities. Our research findings offer theoretical implications for what motivates giving and outline practical consequences for how charitable campaigns can encourage potential donors. I have found a great deal of extraordinary joy in the fact that we arranged for the participants in our study to donate to World Vision to support undernourished children in Korea. I look forward to many more actionable insights at XXXX. Sample Diversity Statement for Graduate School #diversitystatement #graduateschool #writing #editing #professional #service #examples #asian
- PHD Marketing Personal Purpose Statement, Graduate School of Business
For several reasons, I find consumer behavior fascinating and the professional area of study where I hope to make my mark. This is why I plan to earn a Ph.D. Degree in Marketing to help meet consumer demand to the extent to which it is possible. XXXX is my first choice because of the sheer excellence of your program and its location. I am the best fit with XXXX and ask for the opportunity to demonstrate my capacity to give my all and think creatively about the burning issues of my day, especially as they relate to the challenges we face in Marketing. I could not be more excited about consumer behavior. I often read myself to sleep at night, sharpening the edge of my understanding of that behavior, the most creative ideas emerging in the literature, etc. While sometimes, I place extra effort on one aspect of consumer behavior, a particular case study, such as new jeans manufactured to look old and well-used. I spend most of my energy rising above particularities or peculiarities in the details, or exceptions to the norms, to focus on developing an enhanced understanding of the dynamics of the models themselves, the common ground that exists in terms of consumer behavior, generally speaking, Many of the many journal articles in Marketing I read as an undergraduate student were authored by faculty members at XXXX University. I am currently the driving force behind two independent research projects. My current research projects have sparked my interest in exploring the following areas: Appeal of Age and Wear and Signaling Expertise through Tainted Products. I look forward to finding new topics to work on that challenge me as a graduate student to go that extra mile under the tutelage of some of the finest faculty in Marketing in the world at XXXX University. Especially at first glance, Gold Goose shoes looked to me much like something that a homeless person might wear. This clashes with great force against the price tag of US$500.00. Why would somebody pay this kind of money for what at least looks to be worn out? From Professors Xing Zhang and Minjung Koo, I have learned that for products requiring skill to use, tainted ness reflects the owner’s frequency of use, which is evidence of their performance expertise. This project has sparked my interest in exploring several related questions: (1) how we portray ourselves through our choices, (2) how we make inferences about others based on their choices, and (3) what factors can influence the accuracy of others’ assumptions . Primarily concerned with consumer experience and satisfaction, I explore what motivated consumers to share their experiences with others, especially on social media : How Perceived Control Shapes Satisfaction with Promotional Games . I am also investigating why many of us share our failures and triumphs on social media. This year, 2020, for example, many of my social media acquaintances have been triumphantly sharing photos of their baking failures during quarantine; why? Engaging in o ngoing research in support of investigations by Professors XXXX and XXXX, exploring how consumers’ perceived control over the outcome of promotional games affects their satisfaction with the retailer, I study a range of issues relating to how consumers frequently encounter and participate in retail promotions involving probabilistic rewards (e.g., scratch-off tickets, sweepstakes). Prior research found that if consumers have control or even an illusion of control over the random game outcome, they will be less likely to blame the company for adverse outcomes. Surprisingly, positive outcome effects often lower the level of satisfaction with the company, while harmful consequences frequently result in customer retention. Thus, it seems clear that active choice increases a feeling of responsibility for the outcome while reducing perceptions of a retailer’s fault. Conversely, many positive effects also result in a reduction of positive feelings toward the retailer. I look forward to exploring how consumer research can help reap broad and highly significant rewards for corporations and society. I won't learn how to help entities make better choices and engage successfully with social causes. How does a cheat day help motivate individuals to achieve their diet goals overall, or how can we convince people to subscribe to green produce delivery to save our planet, despite being more costly? I am working with Professor XXXX on a project exploring how two persuasive appeals (express support vs. make a difference) activate discrete motives, which can help charitable organizations design effective campaigns to target potential donors. While performing literature searches for this project, I became curious about what motivates us to behave virtuously. I am interested in exploring how the presence of others influences our decision to perform virtuous deeds. For instance, would we be more likely to signal our virtues to close friends or strangers? Becoming a Ph.D. student at XXXX University will set me on track to realizing my long-term career goal of becoming a Marketing professor. My decision to pursue a doctoral degree in Marketing did not occur overnight. Instead, it has been a tireless endeavor. As an undergraduate Research Assistant in the Attention and Perception Lab at XXXX University, I worked with Professor XXXX on a year-long project investigating how high-fat foods capture attention. I was fascinated by how insight from cognitive psychology can serve as a key to unlocking questions about consumer choice. To further immerse me in consumer behavior research, I decided to join the Kellogg School of Management as an assistant behavioral lab manager. There, I had the unique opportunity to learn by example from close oversight by the faculty of many projects in various stages of development and eventually published in leading marketing and psychology journals. I learned how to articulate research questions, generate experiments to test hypotheses and communicate study objectives to the research team. I also volunteered as a research assistant for Professor XXXX. I gained hands-on experience collecting and coding field data for a project investigating how self-concept affects moral behavior. As a predoctoral trainee at the XXXX Graduate School of Business, I am the driving force behind two independent research projects. My current projects were formulated through participating in weekly doctoral-level seminars focusing on recent publications in leading marketing and psychology journals. I reviewed previous literature to identify unexplored areas, proposed ideas for future experiments, developed stimuli and measures, and conducted data collection on multiple platforms. For example, I initiated one field experiment where I posed as a café employee to collect data. While completing these projects, I have also strengthened my troubleshooting skills. Disappointing outcomes did not deter me. I tried different analyses to identify why results often ended up different from what had been expected and how to improve the following experiment. My central career goal is to become a professor and to continue to make my contribution to the field of consumer beta continue to contribute. I look forward to collaborating with other highly motivated scholars and mentoring students of my own. And I would like to embark on my Ph.D. journey at XXXX University, where I will be able to learn from the best of the best. Thank you for taking the time to consider my application. - LLM Personal Statement Peacemaking, Azerbaijan & Armenia
XXXX University is my first choice among LLM programs because of its focus, rigor, and reputation. I appreciate the flexible curriculum, small classes, networking opportunities, and how XXXX's Law students are encouraged to address real-world issues. The Community Enterprise Clinic is another draw for me at XXXX, contributing to implementing creative thinking to address real-world problems in the community. My country, Azerbaijan, recently experienced a brutal war against its neighbor Armenia. Earning the LLM Degree at XXXX will help me contribute to efforts to bring peace to the region and avoid conflict between neighboring states in the former USSR. We need well-trained professionals in Azerbaijan, especially concerning my area of special interest, international business transactions. The future of Azerbaijan depends upon secure international transactions to achieve prosperity. For this reason, earning my LLM Degree at XXXX will be in preparation for service to my people, a cause to which I hope to give my all. My sensitivity to others, persistence, and intellectual curiosity will help me hit the ground running in the LLM Program. It would be a special honor for me to have the opportunity to study under Assistant Professor of Law XXXX. I especially admire his work in the areas of governance and the manipulation of algorithmic trading. I adore the detail-oriented nature of Law, developing my critical judgment, drawing conclusions based on facts, extensive learning, and research. Perseverance, patience, and discipline enabled me to graduate with distinction from Law School in Azerbaijan, obtaining the so-called “red diploma.” After finishing my military service, I decided to build a career in the tax sphere since it attracted me by its analytical aspect and complex legal framework. I successfully passed the exam and began working on corporate tax issues. Six months later, I was offered a position as a litigation lawyer at the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan, where I have spent the last ten years. The administration frequently asks me to provide my legal view or troubleshoot different issues, and I regularly contribute to drafting laws. I was promoted from senior inspector to Deputy Chief of the department in 2018. I now seek to broaden my horizons as a legal professional and learn as much as I can about common law and its implications, in particular. The USA is ideal because I seek complete immersion in English in my LLM program and want extensive exposure to diversity and its issues. After completing your LLM Program, I hope to become active in transaction law, working with an organization providing global legal services. I am also looking forward to playing an essential role in legal reforms and promoting progressive, fair, and balanced legislation in Azerbaijan. I believe my genuine interest in the US legal system, professional experience as a civil lawyer, and diligent work ethic would make me an excellent candidate for your program. My primary goal in my life is to be the best in what I am doing, like Steve Jobs in technology, Bill Gates in software, Jeff Bezos in business, etc. Lawyers are creators and the most critical factor driving law is how hard the lawyer works. Whatever I have done so far in my academic, professional, and personal life, I have done it with heroic effort and patience; nevertheless, I am always waiting for the right time to go that extra mile, as with an LLM program. I feel happy and satisfied when I am assigned to draft a legal project which impacts some essential social or administrative aspects of public life. I thank you for considering my application to the LLM program at XXXX. LLM Personal Statement Peacemaking #LLM #lawschool #personalstatement #admission #writing #editing #service #samples #help
- PHD Public Health and Epidemiology Personal Purpose
I constantly read journals in medicine and health to stay abreast with recent technological developments. I participated in all medical camps and health awareness programs sponsored by our college. As an NSS (National Service Scheme) volunteer, I participated in awareness rallies and immunization programs and educated people regarding sanitation measures, contraception, STDs, etc. The interaction with humble people in rural areas helped cultivate my compassion for my patients, most of whom were suffering from chronic, congenital, or infectious diseases; I worked to identify genes associated with the disease in question. I realized that education and promulgating information concerning the relationship between infectious diseases and our genetic codes place some at greater risk than others; programs could help encourage healthier lifestyle choices among the individuals in question. Thus, I began to engage with public health issues, bioinformatics, drug design, vaccine creation, health statistics, and disease surveillance. Completing my MPH Degree at XXXX University (20XX) provided me with rigorous coursework, extensive field experience, a solid foundation in population health principles, epidemiological methods and biostatistics, and expertise in study design. I learned how to examine disease patterns, disease prevention, and wellness. As a clinical statistician at InVentiv Health Clinical, I efficiently communicated real-world issues and strategies to all internal stakeholders. I worked on projects, applying and boosting traditional propensity scores to assess the risk of angioedema associated with angiotensin-converting, enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers, and beta-blockers using an extensive US health claims database. My research was presented at the International Society of Pharmacoepidemiology. Another study I worked on analyzed the risk factors of healthy volunteers using data captured for a Phase 1 clinical research unit. I played an essential role in constructing Sentinel, a novel visualization dashboard that displays patient journey maps of healthy volunteers. I was also most thankful for evaluating the FDA’s mini sentinel cohort identification tool - developed through the Dissentingly initiative for application in active disease surveillance - by determining the incidence of hepatic decompensation, a clinical out. This clinical outcome occurs in the natural history of the disease or during the treatment of hepatitis C infection. In my current role at XXXX Pharmaceuticals in City, State, I provide epidemiology expertise and mentorship, collaborating with agencies to design and implement epidemiological projects that project that epidemiological projects. I play a critical role in pharmacoepidemiology studies' design and implementation, satisfying post-marketing regulatory commitments. I perform an independent analysis of real-world data, including critical appraisal and in-depth scientific literature reviews provide. The data generated from these claims databases offers valuable insights into patient selection for clinical trials and highlights the importance of real-world evidence to support clinical trial design. I have also assisted in writing protocols, statistical analysis plans, and publishing scientific articles. For instance, I explored the incidence of venous thromboembolism in treated patients with rheumatoid arthritis. I spent a lot of time examining the biological or targeted synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) in a real-world setting. This work was published in an RMD journal. Early this year, I heard about the coronavirus pandemic while presenting an abstract at a conference on statistical practice in California. About 15 members of my extended family in India became infected with the virus during the same month. Everyone in my family was coping with great strain and anxiety, with the inundation of COVID-19 news a constant reminder of sadness and grief. I decided to give back to the community where I have my deepest roots and started volunteering under the direction of my community medicine professor, meeting with district epidemiologists in India to build a COVID-19 dashboard that identifies hotspots in Warangal and surrounding areas. I also participated in various webinars to better understand the COVID-19 spread. In my current position at XXXX Pharmaceuticals, we use the Optum EHR database to understand the feasibility of a study in pursuing the incidence of QT prolongation in hospitalized patients diagnosed with COVID-19. The desire and passion to pursue a Ph.D. in Epidemiology and Public Health h been enhanced further by the pandemic, such a graphic demonstration of the need and urgency that exists, not just for the present but even more importantly for the future. COVID-19 has helped sharpen my mind and made me more adept at handling critical and emergency issues. I look forward to further furthering research on infectious diseases, how programs project they affect large population programs, and the best ways to educate people on the best ways to avoid or prevent contagion or occurrence of the disease in question. I am also particularly interested in infections transmitted through blood, such as HIV and Hepatitis B. I have witnessed doctors becoming infected with dreadful diseases and deaths due to accidental needle pricks. I hope to earn a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from XXXX University because it offers state-of-the-art facilities and ample research opportunities. I believe my solid foundation in medical terminology, thoroughgoing awareness of HIPAA guidelines, sound knowledge of computer applications for public health, and experience in dealing with public health issues help make me a strong candidate for your program. I crave the rigors of your distinguished program at XXXX University; I am confident that my skills, experience, and hardworking nature, driven forward by my intense sense of purpose, will enable me to excel if selected. I look forward to lifelong learning and research in Epidemiology and Public Health based on the foundation programs I will acquire in one of the leading Ph.D. Programs in Epidemiology in the world. Thank you for considering my application. PHD Public Health and Epidemiology Personal Purpose #phd #epidemiology #statementofpurpose #samples #personal #writing #editing #service
- MPH Personal Statement of Purpose Management
The threat of climatic change and prolonged conflict is expected to displace millions in the Global South in the coming years. I hope to continue leading and designing health programs to improve access to health services in Africa, drugs, and vaccines for IDPs, providing policymakers with evidence-based policy options. I feel strongly that earning the MPH Degree in Global Health at the University of XXXX, a world-class institution invested in improving access to life-saving medical care for the world's neediest populations, is the institution that will best help me to realize my dreams. I had worked in the development sector since 2013, when I began my first position as an Associate Pharmacy Officer with Howard University’s PACE Centre, helping to strengthen the Integrated Delivery of HIV/AIDS Services (SIDHAS) in my native Nigeria. In 2014, I was promoted to State Pharmacy Specialist in Borno State, in the Northeast of the country, the birthplace and central stronghold of Boko Haram, an insurgency which, in addition to murder, torture and disappearance, is also guilty of human trafficking, forcing boys to become soldiers and girls sex slaves, resulting in the incalculable misery and displacement of millions of people. With the rise of this insurgency, the USAID-funded SIDHAS project was the only project with an active presence in the state at the time. Before being closed because of terrorist activity by Boko Haram, the SIDHAS project supported twenty-one health facilities in Borno state. All but three of these sites – located in Abuja, the fortified capital city - became non-functional due to attacks and community displacements by the insurgents. I led a team to trace our clients when they became displaced and found many of them in camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs). I also helped develop an implementation roadmap for HIV/AIDS interventions in the camps. I was part of a small group of people who designed and set up a novel mobile antiretroviral therapy clinic, which was specially designed for our work at preventing and treating HIV/AIDS clients and other related services, particularly for IDPs living in camps. I coordinated the team to provide comprehensive HIV/AIDS services to fourteen designated IDP camps, visiting each center 2 to 3 times a month on average. I helped create culturally and linguistically appropriate HIV prevention messages, stigma reduction strategies, and the development of anti-discrimination materials disseminated in Kanuri and Hausa in the camps. I coordinated continuous camp management engagement to encourage the seamless implementation of policy directives. I enjoyed networking with our partners in the IDP camps or health facilities and various organizations, including a mobile ART team. From its inception in October 2015 to December 2017, the ART mobile team screened 26,862 persons, of which 851 were diagnosed as positive. Seven hundred ninety clients were enrolled in care and initiated lifesaving ARVs; within the same period, 20,017 pregnant women were screened, with 105 diagnosed positive, while seventy-three clients were started on ART for PMTCT. My research entitled "Evaluating mobile HIV/AIDS services for internally displaced persons living in IDP camps in Maiduguri: Success or Failure?" was accepted for poster presentation at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine's 6th Annual Research Symposium in Nov 2016. Mobile ART is one of the success stories of improving access to HIV/AIDS in the Boko-Haram-affected region of Northeast Nigeria. However, during the implementation process, I learned many lessons and raised many questions. HIV management requires lifelong adherence. Treatment interruption leads to the deterioration of clinical conditions and resistance, leading to treatment failure. In IDP camps, it was easy to monitor compliance. Since ARVs are provided in the camps directly, this eliminates many barriers to adherence. ARV adherence is significantly better in the centers than in the larger community, accessing ARVs from health facilities. One tough challenge we faced was the complete lack of data on health indices and the burden of diseases in the conflictive area, which was notably more challenging and more formidable where those records had been destroyed. Patients fled the conflict zones in all directions, seeking safe locations, and few carried health records. For most IDPs, we had neither an address nor a telephone number, preventing complex logistic challenges. The rise in violence and conflict in sub-Saharan Africa threatens progress in reducing the disease burden. Further compounded by climate change, forced displacement makes it still more challenging to design effective health programs in the battle against chronic diseases like HIV and TB. We need to constantly rethink the programming of HIV initiatives and resources, for example, in the face of other infectious diseases and chronic conditions emergent in unforeseen ways in a rapidly deteriorating environment. I learned much as a participant in the University of XXXX Global Health E-Learning Program. I now have certificates in 4 online courses: Leadership and Management in Health, Economic Evaluation in Global Health, Fundamentals of Implementation Science, and Clinical Management of HIV/AIDS. These courses have deepened my knowledge and contributed to my success so far. I have had the opportunity to learn first-hand from the most talented Professors at UW, especially Professors XXXX and XXXX. I find the work of Professor XXXX exciting since her unique position at the intersection of global health and conflict is incredibly close to my intellectual center. - MSW Statement of Purpose Family and Children Services
I have worked with families and troubled youths in various social or community service positions. I currently work in a branch of the Child Welfare Department called the ¨receiving center, ¨ where we receive children removed from their parents due to neglect and substance abuse. This is part of a Major Bureau, the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS), with several different branches, such as Emergency Response (E.R.) and Dependency Investigations (D.I.). There is also a branch called Continuum. I have had the privilege to collaborate with many mental health support providers, such as clinicians, crisis counselors, and social workers, regarding our youths. With an MSW Degree from XXXX State University, I would qualify for more social work positions and shoulder increasing responsibility in supervision, caseloads, and case planning. I look forward to gaining experience and familiarity in each area, ER, DI, etc. I am extremely highly motivated and enthusiastic about Social Work as a career field; the only thing that has kept me from applying to graduate school until now is that I have not been in a financial position to do so. Thus, I ask to be considered for a stipend that would allow me to go back to school and have an opportunity to prove myself as a student and someone who is most dedicated to social work and looking forward to many decades to come giving my all to my field, always with a particular priority focus on helping the members of the needy, minority, or disenfranchised communities. As a Latina rooted in the community, I look forward to serving as a role model to new generations of Latinas and women who are members of minority groups. Celebrating the enfranchisement of women is a big part of my professional and personal life. Our services that protect and care for children taking them out of one home and placing them in another, to the extent to which it is necessary to do so, need well-trained professionals like the woman I hope to be once I graduate my MSW from XXXX University. I could not be more committed to doing my best and applying what I have learned, putting it to excellent use for decades. - GMAT Waiver Request for DBA Applicant
To Whom It May Concern, I humbly request from the admission committee at XXXX University that the requirement of taking the GMAT and submitting my scores be waived. The global COVID-19 pandemic has made life difficult for most, particularly here in the USA, and especially international students, for whom many things have become quite complicated, especially at first, since many like me are still getting used to new and vastly different surroundings, to begin with. On top of everything else, the disruption caused by the public health crisis of COVID-19 has stretched into every corner of academic administration, making it next to impossible for me to take the GMAT in time for this application. I would like very much to take the GMAT and do so in good faith, taking the time to study and adequately prepare, if these were regular times and the academic world was not facing such extraordinary circumstances that make everything more complicated than it was before. I have devoted my entire adult life to business; even as an adolescent, I read widely in this area while many of my friends were doing sports. Not that I do not love sports, but I understood the importance of getting an early start at what one wants to do best. I worked hard on my English as well as a teenager, knowing that it would help open doors for me in the future. It allowed me to regularly score in the top half of my class while working towards my ESL Certification, spending an entire year bringing my English up to the point where I could excel in my BS program in Finance. I went on to earn my MBA in November 2020 from XXXX University in XXXX. Thus, I feel confident that I will also be able to excel in your program, and I thank you for considering my request to grant the waiver of the GMAT requirement. Sincerely, GMAT Waiver Request for DBA Applicant
- PHD Data Science Statement of Purpose, Statistics, Chinese
Now a graduate student at XXXX University, I will finish my master's degree in Statistics in May of 2021. I have been acquiring and cultivating a variety of skill sets and a knowledge base that will enable me to hit the ground running in your program, mainly because of my research experience. I am primarily engaged with and excited about Data Mining, Machine Learning, and Bayesian Time Series in a high-dimensional setting. I have been fortunate to have professors guide my research in Statistics, especially Professor XXXX in Bayesian applications, Professor XXXX in machine learning with high dimensional settings, and Professor XXXX concerning Time Series. With its rigorous and challenging curriculum, I have benefited enormously extraordinary the incredible breadth of experience and expertise of the marvelous teachers and learning environment at XXXX. I became adept at research and analysis while earning my MBA at Drexel University, where I concentrated on finance management. There, I liberated myself from didactic methodology, learning to put my curiosity to work and trust my instincts in approaching problems: analytically with great persistence and firm commitment – consistently prioritizing teamwork. Fundamental and theoretical finance, accounting, and statistics bolstered my confidence and interest in quantitative analysis and research. I excelled in advanced courses such as my seminar in Finance, where we developed an actual business case study. I passed the Chartered Financial Analyst levels I and II exams the same year while finishing my internship in financial modeling. My enormous enthusiasm for quantitative analysis and data modeling blossomed after I accepted a job as a risk analyst for a mortgage insurance company, where I learned how to use advanced programming tools such as VBA, SAS, and Python. My interest in computer programing grew into professional practice. Using a proprietary risk model, I worked on risk portfolio valuation and was immersed in the database and data lake. When I read the research paper “Deep Learning for Mortgage Risk” (Sirignano, Sadhwani, and Giesecke, 2018), I was profoundly inspired by the application of deep learning, regularization, ensemble modeling, and logistic regression. I appreciate how the key to modeling is accurate data interpretation and advanced algorithms, which can only be achieved with a comprehensive understanding of statistics. I want to fully master the most powerful and advanced technology used for data analysis and modeling, machine learning, and deep learning, putting my mathematics and computer technology abilities to work and helping advance the field of “Data Science.” I look forward to the environment of collaboration in your program. I am eager to learn as much as possible from well-respected academics on innovative theories, technologies, and applied problems. With the very high-caliber consortium of experts and resources at XXXX University, I believe I will be inspired to approach problems in new ways and develop in-depth knowledge and expertise in statistics. I will begin my doctoral work with a robust academic foundation, thanks to prior coursework and professional experience. I have honed my interpersonal and communication skills at work and laboring on team projects. I further supplemented my academic preparation for your program by taking an online Data Science and Machine Learning class using Python, R, and MATLAB. Most importantly, my five years of intense quantitative work with advanced programming tools like SAS, VBA, and Python will empower me to excel. The fourth industrial revolution will feature big data, and I believe statistics will be at its center. I have realized that my passion lies in research and academia. I am confident that this is the best time to seize this opportunity, not only because it will enable me to solve the types of long-standing challenges I encounter at work but also because I can learn to expedite the way I work and live in general. I hope to earn a Ph.D. at XXXX to become a master's professional at the forefront of data generated across industries and disciplines, organizing information, making it sensible, and translating it into a form suitable for many specific purposes. I see myself as an ideal fit with XXXX since I am profoundly drawn to the interdisciplinary nature of your program and the immense opportunities available at XXXX for participating in innovative research endeavors. - Preventive Medicine for Family Care Residency, Immigrant
I look forward to contributing to the diversity of your program as a woman doctor from Turkey who is most devoted to Family Medicine. Passionate about every aspect of my field, I am eager to serve on the front lines of medical attention in these trying, tough times for all of us, because of a variety of threats to public health in general, climate change, for example, but especially COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. I adore the diversity of Family Medicine and look forward to being remembered in your program as an incredibly devoted and hard-working doctor who gave all to the patients and their families in greatest need. I arrived in America 3 years ago, especially weak in my ability to speak and understand English. Thus, I became certified as both a Nurse Assistant and a Patient Care Technician to pay the bills while becoming familiar with the healthcare system and making steady progress with my English. It has been a great struggle, especially as concerns English. I am convinced that I failed Step 2 CS of the USMLEs for this reason. Now, however, I have passed not only Step 32 but also Step 3. I was lucky to discover my passion in life while I was still a child when I fell seriously ill, and my parents took me to the hospital. I was burning up with a fever and swollen lymph nodes in my neck, and I was in a great deal of pain. Nevertheless, it was mesmerizing, especially as I began to recover and my pain subsided; for a most impressionable little girl, the extraordinary atmosphere and smell, the magnitude and significance of it all. I was stunned by the female family doctor in her white coat. With her magical touch, she not only healed me, but she touched my whole family and changed us for good. Since then, my direction in life has been medicine; my passion and dedication cultivated at each step based on this early beginning. This goes a long way to explain why I have seen Family Medicine as my destiny for a long time. Medical school was the only career track I considered as a young woman growing up in Turkey. Many of the happiest days of my life as a medical student were spent in the village where I grew up during summer breaks. Most of the elderly were suffering from chronic ailments such as diabetes, arthritis, hypertension, etc. One of them was my grandfather, who had diabetes. His biggest dream was to one day come to my clinic. However, he died in his sleep from a heart attack when I was in the fifth year of medical school. These early childhood experiences growing up in this village, the people's ailments, would go on to chart the course that my life would take. Unable to save my grandpa, I gravitated toward helping others and dedicated myself to the battle against diabetes and related disorders. Learning many of the secrets of pathophysiology, reaching the diagnosis by putting the puzzle pieces together, and subsequently providing the best possible care. The emotional connection with the all-important family unit, treating the medical conditions of families since they are all involved when a family member falls ill, can often be a great asset in attaining a full and smooth recovery. During my residency in Turkey, I worked in many different clinical environments: outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, and ICUs learning something new from each patient. Next, I began working in a rural hospital and soon discovered that the number of patients fighting chronic diseases due to unhealthy lifestyle choices was overwhelming. I got a chance to make closer relationships with my patients and their families. Understanding the life dynamics underneath their diseases gave me clues as to the most effective approaches for treating them. I want to continue to make progress in holistically seeing my patients. I seek to provide excellent family and community-centered care, maximizing my contribution to the health of society. I want to engage with preventive medicine for family care since I see it as having the most significant potential for the long term. Perseverant and determined, my endless curiosity leads me towards discovery; I am a woman doctor from Turkey who takes pride in her ability to simultaneously follow directions from superiors while I think creatively about the practice of medicine, mainly where I see room for improvement. I came to the USA in my forties with two small children because it had long been my dream, and I am tenacious in pursuing my profession. Always being anxious to learn is part of my personality and character. I find team-based learning to hold promise. I also take great care to see each patient as an individual with a unique story, health care needs, and concerns. I am incredibly excited about becoming involved in research, and I find simulation laboratories particularly intriguing. XXXX Medical Center in NJ is perfect for my family. Having lived not far away from XXXX, in Maryland, for three years already, I am settled in with my family and ready for a smooth transition, hitting the ground running in your program. I love the diversity of XXXX Medical Center, patients, and professionals, and I am eager to join your team. Thank you for considering my application to join your team in Family Medicine. - Pediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship Personal Statement, Japanese
A Japanese woman and an Ophthalmologist with nine years of experience in Japan, I hope to complete a Fellowship Position in Pediatric Ophthalmology in the USA. I look forward to giving the balance of my professional life to complete immersion and engagement with Pediatric Ophthalmology – research and practice. I have an open mind about the value of new and traditional techniques and medicines, East and West, and practice cultivation of the art of putting my patients and their families at ease. The diagnosis of eye disease, studying its progression, serving on the front lines of treatment, and working in support of innovative research – all stand at the center of my world. After becoming a mother, my unique passion, and a profound sense of calling to Pediatric Ophthalmology would flourish. I could now not feel more drawn to the complex mysteries in my chosen field, especially how the cause of decreasing visual acuity can be psychological in some cases; in others, genetics plays a leading role. When I was four years old, I had Kawasaki Disease and was hospitalized for months. After fever and swelling of my skin and mucosa, I watched as my hand and feet' skin peeled off – the most vivid imagery that remains with me today. The KD also provoked a coronary arteriogram. The entire experience was a nightmare, also for my parents. Thus, I pay incredibly close attention to developments with Kawasaki Disease today, in several parts of the world, as it appears to accompany or follow an infection of COVID-19 in children, frequently attacking the eyes and other parts of the body. Forever thankful for life, I had another narrow escape in 2011 when an earthquake and tsunami hit Japan, and my community was near the center of the devastation. My daughter was five years old at the time. As we gradually recovered from the chaos, I returned to practicing Ophthalmology with a vigor renewed by our brush with death and the great need for eye care and other forms of medical attention that followed in the aftermath. In 2012, I came to the United States with my daughter on an F-1 Student Visa to attend Kaplan Medical, where I earned my ECFMG certificate. From 2017 to the present, I have worked as a research assistant in Mitochondrial Quality Control. Oxidative stress inside the eye has become the center of my research interest. I find mitochondrial quality control through the ubiquitin-proteasome system to be incredibly fascinating. My mentor, Dr. XXXX, has taught me the science driving research in this area. I hope to complete a fellowship position in Pediatric Ophthalmology in the United States which I see as more advanced than Japan, particularly in new, emerging techniques/devices. I also hope to learn much about myopia. I see many young students with intolerance who return to the clinic every year to control the progression. The prevalence of myopia in East Asia, including Japan, is high; more than 90 percent of middle-school-aged children in Japan are myopic. Many parents are also myopic and seeking effective treatment, including myself, the mother of a myopic child. I look forward to learning as much as I can concerning how myopia is associated with disease and how the problem is exacerbated by the pandemic, with most children’s eyes glued to the screen learning online.
