  • Statistics Master's Personal Purpose Statement Example

I am applying to the Master’s Degree Program in Statistics at XXXX University. I hope to make research in Statistics the focus of my career because I enjoy modeling real-world situations with math and interpreting data to make rational decisions that enhance efficiency. I want to be a data scientist at the service of the business community because I very much enjoy how data drives decision-making. I appreciate the certainty and honesty of data, which helps compensate, as I see it, for the uncertainty associated with human behavior. My undergraduate projects, experience as a volunteer, and my great passion for this field confirm this interest. Data analysis is attractive because it is like an adventure, where hidden treasure maps await my discovery. I I adore Statistics because it is a powerful tool that enables me to dig deep in search of information and patterns. One of the projects I conducted was establishing a regression model to predict SAT scores for fifty states in the U.S. Alaska has the highest leverage because it has the highest state values for income and expenditures. Furthermore, because of the tremendous importance of the studentized residual and cook’s distance, Alaska is quite different from the other states. Therefore, I considered Alaska an outlier and removed it from the data set. However, even with Alaska removed, the plot for residuals versus leverage indicated that the states Mississippi, Louisiana, and Oregon are also outliers. The project also involves Mallow’s Cp and adjusted R square to determine the best model. However, these methods only reveal a corner of the data set depending on the questions. I want to be equipped with a more advanced capacity for exploration. I see Statistics as a vehicle for making a human contribution – and to as many people as possible simultaneously. I have been volunteering with Matheo as a data analyst. My team was assigned to investigate whether our program influenced students' math test performance. We wanted to establish a model to predict their scores with a given norm and compare them with their actual scores. However, I realized the limitations of my current statistics knowledge and data analysis skills to solve these problems; both the linear regression model and the interpolation methods I have learned from the numerical analysis courses were excessively extrapolated. Even though the issue has been resolved by the conditional growth index provided by the test institution, it would have been more effective and efficient if I could analyze such a large amount of semi-structured or unstructured data with my current knowledge of statistics and data science. Since finishing my undergraduate studies, I have continued to mature professionally and prepare myself for graduate school. I have learned SQL and became certified in Google Analytics in this area. I am also taking an online course at Udemy on machine learning data analysis. These experiences have enhanced my interest in data mining and machine learning, especially concerning their relevance to Statistics. I look forward to studying in your program: the core theoretical courses, Probability Theory, Statistical Methods and Research, Big Data, and High-Performance Statistical Computing. I will find my most complete fulfillment in helping others by sharing the analytical skills that I hope to gain because of completing your program. I am convinced that the most significant contribution I can make to my society is in Statistics. If admitted to the program, it would be a special honor to study under Dr. XXXX, an expert in statistical programming, who would help me appreciate how much technology changes our lives. Since my goal is education, Dr. XXXX is also most qualified in statistical education to represent my ideal mentor. I am committed to success in the master's program in Statistics at the University of California, XXXX. While I love business and profoundly enjoy helping small businesses prosper, I will always hold a fondness in my heart for academic applications of data science. I may decide to put this aspect of my studies at the center of my career. Upon obtaining my master’s degree, I want to use my knowledge to help organizations and cities become more prepared and effective, eventually devoting myself entirely to education or educational analysis. Thank you for considering my application to Statistics at the University of California, XXXX. Statistics Master's Personal Purpose Statement Example

  • SLP Speech Language Pathology Personal Statement

The career path that I have chosen, Speech-Language Therapy, is rooted in my teenage years and my successful struggle to overcome a speech impediment. When my family moved from Puerto Rico to Florida when I was fifteen, I brought all the angst that immigrant teenagers of that age often have due to the insecurity and delicacy of this epoch of life. This angst is often exacerbated by low levels of ability in English as was the case with my family and me. Thus, already facing a challenging situation, my frontal lisp, at least for me, became a significant issue. The new girl, the foreigner who already spoke English strangely and haltingly, did not need a lisp on top of it as I tried to make friends in a new land and manage the transition from girl to woman. I survived the jeers and bullying, and I credit much of my salvation and redemption to the bilingual speech-language pathologist at my school , who helped me overcome my speech disorder while struggling to adopt English as my primary language, especially at school. This bilingual SLP professional is my foremost role model. Following her, I found my mission. As I completed my bachelor’s degree, I was especially drawn to the clinical specialty of speech and swallowing. I began to shadow professionals in this area at the Head and Neck Surgery Department at MD Anderson Cancer Center. I remain forever grateful to these professionals for sharing their knowledge and expertise with me. Cancer patients evaluated and treated for swallowing disorders resulting from surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy was the foundation of my field experience in this specialty. In my spare time, I also volunteered at the Orlando VA Medical Center, gaining exposure to geriatric care patients with swallowing impairments following illness, trauma, or disease. When I joined the working world, my focus shifted to Pediatrics, and I worked as a speech-language pathologist assistant in the home health and clinic settings. Monthly scheduling, lesson plans, soap notes, meetings with parents and field professionals; most importantly, I treated a range of disorders: receptive and expressive, articulation and phonology, Autism spectrum and Downs Syndrome, etc. I feel especially needed and called as a bilingual SLP professional because I have seen the great need in the area throughout my time in Texas and Florida. I look forward to continuing to study very closely the complex ways in which speech difficulties can be confused with second language-learning problems, further placing a handicap on immigrant, Spanish-speaking children, most of whom are already at a grave social disadvantage in our society. While studying for the master's degree in SLP at XXXX University, I look forward to learning from world-renowned experts in the field engaged in fascinating, innovative research. Continuing to study and reach new levels of experience and knowledge are why I “tap dance” to work every day, striving to make a difference. The skills and experience I bring to my studies at XXXX University will enable me to excel as I give my all alongside scholars and fellow students. My ultimate professional goal is to open my multidisciplinary therapy center focusing on sensory integration. I volunteer at XXXX’s Autism Speaks. Most recently, I have been incredibly proud of winning the Employee of the Month Award this past January 2018 on my job with Maxim Healthcare Services. I am driven by compassion for animals and people, and my hobbies include canine rescue, helping at the animal shelter, etc. I also scuba dive. Thank you for considering my application. • Real Estate Master´s Purpose Statement Examples

Real Estate, especially Finance, and Acquisitions. have increasingly taken center stage in my intellectual world. A hard worker devoted to his career; I think much more about Real Estate than anything else. I could not feel more confident that I am on the right career path, giving my all for the balance of my professional life to real estate pleases me enormously. Thus, I hope to earn my Master’s Degree at my first choice among graduate programs in Real Estate at XU University. I admire your innovative efforts in online education, and I am attracted to the brick-and-mortar location of XU. I hope to earn my Master’s in the DC area. I love everything about XXXX: its reputation, especially its distinguished faculty, network, alumni, campus, etc. All my instincts tell me that Georgetown represents the optimal springboard upon which to advance professionally. Your curriculum and courses dovetail perfectly with my professional interests and long-term goals. XU checks all the boxes: city, culture, distinction, and guest speakers, to name a few. For the past 1.5 years, I have been analyzing the acquisition of commercial properties. I have come to love my work very much and cannot imagine wanting to do anything else than pursue real estate and become an accomplished and distinguished asset manager. I love to learn and want to keep learning constantly, especially about real estate. I am also dedicated to staying abreast of a lifetime of relevant technological advances for the real estate industry, providing an edge to some and leaving others behind. Ever since I was a child, I have been interested in Real Estate. It was the tangibility that always drew me, how one could see and feel what they were working towards, the direct impact on the community, and the way that real estate is central to the success or failure of all kinds of business and social initiatives. Most of my family is blue-collar. My dad is an electrician and general contractor; my grandpa has an excavating company, and I grew up on job sites as soon as I was old enough to walk. However, I always knew I wanted to go to college and be on the "business side" of real estate. None of my immediate family went to college; I am only the second person in my family to graduate with an undergraduate degree, behind my older brother. As an Economics major in college, I could focus much of my studies on Real Estate at the University of Miami, where I also learned a great deal as a member of the Real Estate and Finance Association. I enjoy helping people, which led me to become a Business Mentor, assisting undergraduates to refine their career goals for job searches. I hope to leverage this master's degree to advance my career and make a positive contribution to society by changing how real estate affects the community. By becoming involved in real estate, one creates a vehicle for participation in the community, which can give rise to opportunities to improve the lives of one’s neighbors and friends. I have a particular passion for environmentally friendly buildings and enhancing the way people live, work, and enjoy entertainment daily – through sustainable investment and practices. After earning my degree at XXXX, I hope to constantly advance my career in real estate acquisitions and development for decades to come. The more successful I become, the more I will wish to invest my time inspiring and guiding young people interested in careers in Real Estate. Volunteer work on behalf of the least fortunate among us is an integral part of my social or civic identity. I frequently donate clothes, money, and time to various charities devoted to attending to the needs of underprivileged children. My GPA in my first two years of college reflects some adjustment problems. My more recent academic efforts represent a much better indication of my potential to excel at XXXX. I thank you for considering my application to Real Estate at XXXX. Real Estate Master´s Purpose Statement Examples

I can think of no career that would be as thoroughly rewarding as giving my professional life to Speech-Language Pathology (SLP). Among Master’s Degree programs in SLP , the University of XXXX is my first choice for several reasons, primarily the sheer excellence of your program. I am a good fit with your curriculum for several reasons, particularly my devotion to children and my passion for thinking globally about SLP and communication issues. As part of my undergraduate education, I took a grassroots development course, including a three-week visit to Nicaragua. We stayed at a free clinic where I could work at the pharmacy and shadow the doctor when he met with patients - both at the clinic and in private homes. I had never seen such poverty and felt incredibly proud to help, especially since our clinic was the only source of medication. My focus will always be on children; helping them progress toward a lifetime of effective communication fills me with the greatest joy I can imagine. I am fully confident that my intense passion for this work will drive me forward to excellence to make significant contributions to the field. Speech/language difficulties in childhood, if not overcome, may present problems for those individuals throughout their lifetimes. This drives me forward and fills me with energy because I desperately want to help these children overcome these issues, thereby saving them a great deal of misery. As I see it, nothing else could be such a sustainable and noble investment of my time. My brother took speech classes at an early age, and I witnessed first-hand the positive impact these classes had on his self-confidence to express himself. I plan to work at a school where I can help children with their speech and language issues or at a pediatric care center providing the same kind of attention. One day, I hope to open my clinic. For the time being, I will be focused on having the most significant impact on the lives of children with the greatest need, furthering my experience after completing your program. I didn’t grow up knowing I wanted to be a speech-language pathologist; it was something I discovered over time. I entered college without declaring a major and had no idea what I wanted to do when I graduated. I was always fascinated with language, so I started at Bucknell University, where I earned a BA in Linguistics with minors in Psychology and Arabic. I am currently enrolled in a Pre-Speech Language Pathology Program at XXXX University. I have worked with infants and young children so far in my career, and I could not be happier with my career choice as I have loved my work and enjoyed the experience immensely. I keenly look forward to returning to studying language acquisition from new, more advanced perspectives at the University of Maryland. I have been interested in languages for my entire life, especially after studying Linguistics in college. Foreign languages were my primary interest going into my undergraduate program, and I was accepted into the language and cultures residential hall, where I had the opportunity to meet people who spoke various languages. I also started taking Arabic courses and found it incredibly fascinating how I could learn to use sounds that were nonexistent in English. It wasn’t until I took a Linguistics class in my sophomore year, however, that I discovered that it wasn’t just languages that attracted me to the communication process but also how the human brain and body can produce so much meaning out of sound. I want to continue to study the psychology of normal and abnormal communication intensely, focusing on language and recognizing that language is only one of several components involved in the communication process. My interest in this subject eventually shifted to people who cannot fully use this ability. The Boy Scouts of America instilled a sense of service in me. As an Eagle Scout, I planned and managed the creation of projects that endure until today. I stayed involved for years after earning that honor to help those who are just starting to make substantial progress. Our slogan, “Do a good turn daily,” is still something I try to live by. I am incredibly thankful for working as a researcher in the XXXX Baby Lab, which allowed me to witness first-hand how infants communicated and strengthened my drive to help children with their language and speech abilities. Most of my observational experience with SLPs has been with children - all advantageous. Whether working with an autistic child who is uncooperative or a child who was recently implanted with a cochlear implant, I profoundly enjoy learning how to recognize and stimulate speech. I also enjoy connecting with difficult personalities. This is why another of my volunteer positions included working with prisoners, taking the time to get to know their working styles, and then using what I learned to inform our interactions better, helping me gain the respect of those with whom I was engaging. Since graduating from XXXX University, I have had the opportunity to develop various administrative and communication skills that help me in the workplace. I was promoted to operations manager within six months of being hired. This has paid the bills and allowed me to continue to develop various administrative and communication skills to help me excel as an SLP professional. Thank you for considering my application to Speech-Language Pathology at XXXX. SLP Master's Personal Purpose Statement Editor

A young, moderately successful lawyer in Italy, I seek an expansion of my education and capacity to help people do business safely in Europe, especially Italy, and, in fact, globally. I also keenly look forward to helping Italian companies to compete more successfully in the global marketplace. Thus, I hope to be accepted to your LLM Program in International Business Law at XXXX University . XXXX University is my first choice among LLM Programs in International Business Law for several reasons, most of all the sheer excellence of your program and the fact that I feel like my interests are a good fit with your curriculum. Finally, I appreciate your institution's location and the surrounding area's extensive intellectual and academic resources. I am most happy with what I have achieved academically and professionally; I enjoy practicing law very much. Nevertheless, I now need to expand my career to an international stage. All my clients are my neighbors, people like me who were born and raised in Italy. I crave learning and practicing at the international level for intellectual satisfaction and growth alongside additional professional opportunities. Since studying law and becoming a practicing attorney in the south of Italy, I feel that our profession has failed to become sufficiently international in thinking and action. I hope to compensate during my professional lifetime by addressing this weakness. As I see it, Italian law firms do not appear to have much of an international vocation, and strongly that this needs to change. Lawyers in Italy need to broaden their horizons and professional perspectives as befits our profession and economic development in the era of globalization. I am convinced that the economic prosperity of my country is at stake, threatened by, among other things, a lack of competitiveness of Italian companies concerning global markets. I hope to safeguard the economic well-being of my society by helping to make Italian companies more competitive on the international stage. I am convinced that Italy’s products and services are underrated and underpriced globally. Part of this problem can be addressed by increasing internationalization among members of Italy’s legal profession, a cause to which I hope to contribute down the road. For some time now, I have been working to improve my English and have made a lot of special efforts in this regard this past year. I am fully dedicated to working towards complete mastery of English because this is our international language, and I seek international communication and commerce opportunities. I look forward to deepening my knowledge of comparative legal systems and common law, especially those legal principles that sway international commercial transactions. As a student in your program, I look forward to interfacing with areas of law that have long stimulated my curiosity, especially topics in business law and intellectual property, fields that I see as still in their academic infancy in Italy. Thank you for considering my application. LLM Business Law Personal Statement Examples

  • MPH Public Health Personal Purpose Statement

My country, Sudan, is one of the earth's poorest and most troubled countries. For decades, we have lived with widespread war and political strife on top of poverty, which has left Sudan a public health nightmare, with minimal public health infrastructure available to ordinary people. I am a dentist from Sudan with extensive experience working with the Sudanese Ministry of Health. I look forward to a professional life giving my all to help the people in my country of origin in great need and the underserved in the USA. I won the US visa lottery and am currently making a new home for myself in America. I have decided that the best way to prepare for a lifetime flying back and forth between Sudan and the USA, doing what I can to help, would be to first earn the MPH Degree. Born in Sudan and raised in Saudi Arabia, I returned to Sudan for my education in dentistry since only citizens can attend dental school in Saudi Arabia. As I was finishing dental school in Sudan, I won the diversity lottery visa and came to the USA in 2012. I obtained my green card and then went back to Sudan to complete my internship in dentistry. I love Sudan very much, and I feel called to help with health care, community health programs, and oral public health since it is in this area where my advanced training lies. Our public health care infrastructure in Sudan is fragile, with few human or material resources., Many, if not most people have no primary health care, and many suffer from endemic diseases like Malaria and other tropical diseases; HIV and Hepatitis also present significant problems. Community and public health have always been close to my heart, and I put a lot of effort into my volunteer work in Sudan while in dental school, especially concerning my participation in a program designed to determine DMFT (decayed-missed-filled-teeth) among elementary students, underserved communities were my principal focus. After finishing dental school in Sudan, I practiced dentistry in Sudan for several years before moving to the US. The high points of this period were when I volunteered to join a team of doctors and other health professionals traveling to rural areas to provide low-income populations with access to humanitarian healthcare assistance. As part of a team of students from a medical and dental school providing services to underserved regions of Sudan, we offered free consultation, treatment, education, and awareness for wellness. After moving to the USA, I decided to look for ways to restart my career as a healthcare professional, and I have completed a certificate and community health fellowship (CHW) through the Administrative Fellowship Program towards the end of gaining additional healthcare experience in preparation for further professionalization here in the USA. As a healthcare professional in America, I look forward to helping Arabic-speaking patients by serving as a bridge between the patient and the provider. I will always continue to work hard to contribute all I can to those with whom I work to advance the cause of community health. I look forward to helping my community and gaining experience in the American health system that can help me with my advanced studies in public health. I assist refugees from Sudan by interpreting and accompanying them to their medical, housing, and state appointments, completing state, housing, and medical applications, and translating and explaining documents. Now an undergraduate student at Shandong University, I hope to be accepted to study for and earn my Master’s Degree in Education at the University of XXXX. Since grade school, I dreamed of earning a graduate degree in Education. I always saw my favorite teachers as role models, the kind of adult I wanted to become as a professional and pillar of my community. My admiration for their professional role and stature was noticed by the teachers, who often gave me extra time due to my intense interest and transparent investment in the educational process. I always gave school my all and made it my number one priority, and I learned how to manage and organize my time as a student. I increasingly came to understand and appreciate how teachers are, in some ways, friends, advocates, and even a counselor at certain times and occasions and to certain degrees. The fact that I set my sights on becoming a teacher when I was still incredibly young inspired me to watch my teachers closely, study their every move, labor to understand their thoughts or feelings, etc. This was particularly true in high school, as I was more mature and able to empathize and understand more of the challenges and joys that accompany the various duties of a teacher. I am keenly looking forward to becoming a teacher one day; thus, I hope to acquire my professional training in one of the most exemplary Education programs in the world, at the University of XXXX. Education represents a career shift for me since I finished my undergraduate studies at Shandong University in Finance, International Business, etc. I have been preparing myself for graduate school in Education in my free time, however, reading about Education in China, particularly where I plan to teach. I am learning many skills and sophisticated ways of thinking in studying international business operations to help me hit the ground running and excel at the University of XXXX. Also, earning my undergraduate degree in international business speaks to how Education in China has become increasingly geared toward the needs of a global economy and international business realities. I have also been a tutor for some time, confirming my desire to make teaching my career. I have gained advanced analytical and research skills that I now seek to use in the service of education, as an investigator of issues in Chinese education, and as a classroom teacher. I thrive in English and often give class presentations and present case studies. I adore my undergraduate program because of its international class character and progressive, creative, experimental curriculum, with all my courses taught in English by instructors who have studied overseas. Currently, I am completing an internship with the New Oriental Education & Technology Group, where I am training to achieve my dream of becoming a teacher, teaching classes under the guidance of professional teachers. Soon, I will also be teaching English to high school students. I love the process of teaching and seeing the progress of my students; always a win-win result. I thank you for considering my application to UX. Master's Education Personal Purpose Statement Chinese

  • Master's Finance Personal Purpose Statement Example

A young Chinese man and a fast learner, I was proud that I was able to earn my MA in Economics at XXXX University in only one year (2017.09-2018.06). After earning my first Master’s in the West, I now want to earn a second in a closely related field, Finance . XXXX University is my first choice for continued study for distinct reasons, most of all the sheer excellence of the program. For some years now, I have become an avid reader of everything about the real estate market, particularly concerning China, London, and Toronto. Earning the master's degree in finance at XXU will place me at the forefront regarding qualifications to serve in the business and real estate worlds, particularly where Greater China meets the West. Hong Kong and XXU, are the epicenter of development of the Chinese Bay Area, and I am also learning a great deal about Macau. I am proud that while I seek a professional tie with a real estate firm after finishing my studies, I am already an independent investor on my own. Thus, earning my master's in finance, which interests me the most, will positively affect my breadbasket issues. Having already made a significant amount of money on my own, I plan to continue to lay a solid foundation for my financial security by identifying and investing in undervalued real estate and converting it into rental income-generating property. I am actively engaged in the resale and buy-back of housing in Wuhan, Chengdu, London, and Toronto. I am proud of having earned an A+ for both Econometrics courses during my master's studies; I look forward to learning more at HKU about R as SAS. I see XXU as the perfect vantage point from which to gain a rapid yet thorough familiarity with the business environments of Southeast Asia. During the summer of 2011, I was an exchange student and studied at HKU for over one month – I look forward to returning to my Cantonese and many other things about Hong Kong, as I have savored this fond memory for years now. In becoming a legal resident of Canada, I seek further contact with Hong Kong long-term because I see it as the first financial center of Southeast Asia. I have remained good friends with several of my classmates from 7 years ago in Hong Kong, and they are looking forward to helping me get oriented and settled when I come to study. If accepted to XXU, I will begin an active search for internship positions that will help me adjust and contribute rapidly to the unique environment, giving my all to the study of Finance and my new academic community, learning as always from the people around me. At some point, I hope to become an investment manager or independent investment counselor, always continuing, primarily, to manage my investments in the most lucrative and sustainable ways possible. Finally, I look forward to obtaining professional qualifications such as the CFA and FRM. Thank you for considering my application to Finance at XXU. • Master's Social Welfare Personal Purpose Statement

My mother is Russian, Italian, and Japanese. My maternal grandmother is full Japanese, and we have always been close; she also lives in the Bay Area. We have always spoken more Japanese than English. I am also close to my aunt in Sri Lanka and am already studying public health issues in that country in preparation for a visit. I take pride in the diversity of my background, mainly because my father is Black and his family is from the US South, principally Mississippi and Atlanta. While growing up multi-racial in the Bay Area is not so exceptional, my father took us to Mississippi to spend extended periods with his family. That was indeed a most memorable multicultural experience. As a mostly Japanese Black girl from the West Coast, I learned about racism and discrimination in Mississippi – where my grandmother drove a school bus - for Black and white people. Attending an excellent and rigorous Catholic school taught me the importance of family and community values, giving me a solid moral foundation for college. Elected team captain of my basketball team for multiple years, we went to the state finals for the first time in school history during my senior year. Half of my classmates had need-based, full scholarships, which helped me grow; I loved the stories I heard at school, told by those whose walks of community life were vastly different from mine. After finishing my undergraduate studies in Psychology and Public Health in Arizona , it was a relief to return to California's liberal, ‘high’ culture . I adore the Bay Area; the diversity of California is electrifying. I became extremely ill in early April 2016 and was set to graduate that following month. I had two large blood clots in my lungs (pulmonary embolisms) and had to be in the hospital for a whole week. When discharged, I learned that I had to be on blood thinners for the rest of my life at age 22. This experience has made me dream of serving as a medical SW in a hospital, providing the counseling that might have helped me during this period. Soon, things got worse as I came down with pneumonia (the doctors said I got it at the hospital). This blew a gaping hole in my ability to study for finals as I wanted to. My graduation date was threatened. I buckled under and finished on time, and I am now fully recovered and gradually dropping the dosage of the blood thinners with my physician’s permission. My grades, however, took a significant hit. Nevertheless, I fell in love with my career after my first child welfare experience as an intern in the Investigations Unit. A social worker and I investigated an immediate referral regarding child abuse. This referral had a safety concern due to gang activity with guns in the home and connections to the Mexican Cartel. We arrived on an unpaved, gravel, and dirt road and proceeded to find the address listed on the referral, a trailer home in shambles. An older woman answered the door. The trailer was very run-down. The children's rooms were filthy and smelled of urine. The children's rooms had dirty old blankets on the ground and crumbling pillows. The refrigerator was worn out and moldy, with barely any food inside. I went home asking myself a million different questions about how and why these vulnerable children and families live this way and have not stopped thinking about it since. My other experience as a peer counselor for students on academic probation confirms that I have talent and great passion for my chosen field. I ask for special consideration considering my GPA. • MPH Epidemiology Personal Purpose Statement Example

The University of XXXX is my first choice for graduate study for the Master of Public Health degree with a focus on Epidemiology for several reasons. In addition to the location, I am excited by the sheer excellence of your program and the vast resources devoted to public health investigations. Los Angeles is well known for its cultural and educational diversity; I think I would be extremely comfortable studying and working there. I especially look forward to learning under Dr. XXXX, who serves as a consultant for the WHO and is a world-renowned expert on disease control. His experience working in a Schistosomiasis Control Program and as a barefoot doctor during the 1970s in China inspired me personally. I very much appreciate his research expertise in substance abuse, cancer epidemiology, environmental diseases, and especially the grave challenges facing China, in particular. I seek to contribute to resolving these challenges through creative thinking and scientific advancement, building upon the work of leaders in our field such as Dr. XXXX. My interest in epidemiology is closely related to growing up in a small town in China where quality health care was far away and non-affordable for the ordinary person. I had seen many of my loved ones suffer from avoidable and treatable conditions throughout the years, which made a big impression on me. While the wealthy have access to the best care in top hospitals with foreign doctors, ordinary people are relegated to overcrowded clinics lacking everything. The cutback of government funding for primary care systems has also led to the lack of access to preventative health services and education for most people. Inspired as a witness of the disorders that resulted in my own family from chronic diseases and substance abuse, I want to work extremely hard to curb many health crises and inequalities in China and help bring equal access to healthcare for everyone. After finishing my degree at UXXX, I plan to return to China eventually and put the knowledge and skills that I have gained in this program to excellent use. I intend to focus on those residents of underdeveloped areas with the lowest level of public health education and access to care, areas of the country like where I came from. I envision spending the balance of my professional life fully connected with the academic world through teaching and research. Working in universities allows me to continue the health education I have always been passionate about. Since public health is still a slow-growing subject in China. I look forward to passing on the torch to new generations of the public health sector and training future decision-makers. I also keenly look forward to lifelong learning and research, always laboring to enhance our understanding of the determinants of chronic and infectious diseases across populations and how to intervene most effectively to reduce morbidity and mortality. I hope to have a close relationship throughout my working years with the local government, collaborating on healthcare reform projects. Our goal is to eventually provide adequate health care services to everyone in China, building trust in institutions where people have lost confidence for some time. By working in epidemiology, I can bring my extensive experience to bear on the situation and contribute to making healthcare more accessible to those most vulnerable. I plan to pay special attention to families and children's mental and physical well-being, working so that they can grow, develop, and prosper in a home free of disease and substance abuse. I want to help people successfully reform the current healthcare system from the grassroots up and to have a voice in the formation of healthcare policy, working to attain the level of care that befits an industrialized country in the 21st century, especially one dedicated to the ideals of equal opportunity for all, placing the good of the community above that of individuals. My experiences growing up with many relatives suffering from preventable, chronic diseases set me on course for a career in public health. I feel strongly that my humble background in China gives me unique abilities to understand the needs of those who have similar experiences to my own and my parents. Although I had to struggle to adapt to new lifestyles and college academics during my early years as an international student, I now have my academic life back on track and actively participate in the work I am passionate about. My favorite courses revolved around human life and well-being during my undergraduate studies. I have volunteered in both the US and China and have learned much through serving in multidisciplinary healthcare settings in both countries. I have also participated in various on-campus activities, such as student non-profit organizations where we held fundraising events for children in undeveloped countries, for example, with the money used to help cover the costs of surgeries. The experience of volunteerism and servant leadership has ingrained in me heartfelt compassion for helping people in need, and an adamant dedication to the field of public health and epidemiology, making fundamental, significant public health improvements within my lifetime. Having earned my Bachelor of Science in Physiology at the University of XXXX this past June 2018, I am anxious to begin graduate school and throw myself back into my studies 24/7, fully embracing the program's rigors. I appreciate your consideration of my application to the master’s degree program in public health at UXXX. MPH Epidemiology Personal Purpose Statement Example

I love languages, learning, sharing, and exploring culture through the written word. Thus, graduating in Linguistics is t most natural choice for me. XXXX University is my first choice among master's degree programs in this area for several reasons, from your program's sheer excellence to the intellectual and cultural resources of the surrounding area. I hope to earn the MA Degree in Linguistics at UXX because I am the best fit for your program. I enjoy listening to the lines of characters in a film in a completely unknown language. The study of languages has always attracted me like a magnet, especially its logic and order, resembling the aesthetics of mathematics in the rules of grammar and syntax. Throughout my studies for graduate and undergraduate degrees, I was drawn to the universities that offered courses in ancient languages to feed my passion in this area. The study of language has always been central to my academic life, and this will enable me to excel in Linguistics at the UX. Studying History has helped to enhance my writing abilities and frame my value system, allowing me to think creatively about the relationship between linguistic and social realities. Studying History alongside Linguistics gives one a glimpse of the glamour of diverse historical events and languages of the world. I graduated with a dual degree in the French language with a certificate of DELF and a dissertation “Les études sur la relation interactive entre la reformed et la revolution-----une comparison entre la Revolution française et la Revolution de 1911”. Another highlight was my participation in academic competition with my classmates, for which we wrote a project: Between History and Reality: British Historians' Political "Ideals" in Athenian Democracy in the Victorian Era: centering on George Grote . I proactively took part in the research tasks of collecting and classifying documents and decoding the text content. We were presented with the third prize for scientific research achievement. I completed intensive courses in Latin and Old Greek courses every academic year throughout my undergraduate and graduate studies; one major highlight in 2013 was my participation in the Beijing Latin Intensive Summer Course. During my master's program, after attending the one-year Elementary Greek course at Renmin University and struggling with Xenophon’s Anabasis, I spent three semesters learning Ancient Greek at Peking University. Despite being a bit discouraged by Plato’s Apology, I was surprised to enjoy translating the extracts from Xenophon’s Symposium. I could adequately use Herbert Weir Smyth’s Greek Grammar by the end of the course. I also completed one semester of extracurricular German and hoped to return to my studies in German at the Goethe Institute. I have always been puzzled over the concurrence of “avoid, are” and “tree” in French auxiliaries. It turned out that Michael Allan Jones presented a plausible argument that those who pick “tree” as auxiliaries are mostly “Un accusative intransitive” verbs in Foundations of French Syntax . This is one of the times that my inquiry into linguistic elements compelled me to resort to linguistics spheres. I studied and taught for one month as a volunteer at the Linguistics Institute of China. The course included four parts: Phonetics, Phonology, Syntax, and Semantics, and gave me a complete understanding of general linguistics. I studied classic linguistic textbooks, enhanced my knowledge of the broad gambit of aspects and issues in linguistics theory, and became involved in innovative issues and debates in theoretical linguistics. Studying the “notoriously” difficult K&K is tough. Still, I managed to work out simple deductions following the professor’s instructions and master some of the basic phonological concepts such as “underlying representation and surface representations” and “distinctive features.” A further understanding of semantics corresponds to my innermost desire for logic and reasoning. I was thrilled to have translated an English sentence for the first time with the logical notation ∀x ( (WIZARD(x) ∧¬x=V) → MORTAL(x) ). This experience has deepened my understanding of linguistics studies and helped to facilitate my personal and academic adaptation to a more advanced course, I look forward to a complete immersion in theoretical linguistic studies with keen anticipation. I hope to conduct research projects relating to Chinese minority languages, donate myself to their preservation and linguistic diversity, and record miracles in the history of human civilization.
