  • SLP Personal Purpose Audiology Autistic Children

As a Registered Behavior Technician, since January of 2015, I have been working at Verbal Behavior XXXX with children on the Autism spectrum, providing behavior intervention and building language acquisition at home and at school. I have fallen deeply in love with SLP, Audiology, and mostly Autistic children. XXXX University’s Communicative Sciences and Disorders Master’s Degree Program at the XXXX School is my first choice for graduate study because of the sheer excellence of your curricula, the fact that I can complete much of my course work online, and your location at the very center of the world. I look forward to contributing to the diversity of your program as a Latina recovering her linguistic heritage and now speaking Spanish at an advanced level as well as achieving an intermediate level in American Sign Language. As a Lead Behavior Interventionist, I am responsible for pre- and post-testing students, creating material, and making necessary changes to programs the students do not seem to be making progress with. In addition to my current professional position, I also spent more than two years as a volunteer at the XXXX Rehabilitation & Wellness Center (September 2012-January 2014) working with the Regeneration Adult Day Club, preparing daily activities for members. Over the past few years, I have also completed a considerable amount of shadowing of various Speech Language Pathology professionals, especially with respect to client assessment and evaluation. Finally, I have worked as a Phonetics Teacher Assistant (Fall 2013) tutoring students, grading assignments and preparing instructional materials. Over the last year I’ve spent most of my workdays in a Special Education Public High School; most of my students have some form of Autism. This school is small but filled with many opportunities to enhance their quality of life. I especially love how multidisciplinary professionals come together as a team for their care, SLP’s, OT’s, psychologists and teachers, helping the students to reach their full potential. Working with these professionals has really helped to hone my skills and steer me in the right career direction. I love what I do, and it is because of this passion that I want to become an advocate and assist in language acquisition programs for special needs children at an early age. I want to be able to use many of the same approaches employed at the high school where I work with young children. I hope in time to create my own preschool/clinic. Children are most flexible during their first 5 years, and I believe that programs have the greatest opportunity for success at early ages with multidisciplinary teams of professionals working together to better the lives of these children. While I was in college, I completed a minor in developmental disabilities. But I have learned even more on the job about Autism and a variety of learning techniques, how to deal with failed attempts and the frustration faced by students when they try to communicate. I learn by doing, daily. This is why I place such a high value on the program at XXU. It would allow me to learn theories and skills while simultaneously applying them through participation in clinical externships. These children inspire me daily to persevere. Attending graduate school at XXU would help me come full circle in the realization of my academic goals and professional aspirations. My goal is improving the quality of life of my students. My students often use body language to communicate, and it isn't always pleasant. It can indeed be quite frustrating for the child and their parent/loved ones. I want to do everything I can to break down communication barriers and continue my education with a master's degree in Speech Language Pathology. I dream of establishing a clinic for autistic children with speech/language challenges with many multidisciplinary professionals under one roof - SLP's, Occupational therapists, Behavior therapists - creating an optimal environment for children to learn at a young age, increasing their opportunities to socialize, communicate, and develop appropriate behavior. I have a solid foundation in language acquisition and the use of technology for nonverbal children. Working at different schools has afforded me the opportunity to collaborate with many teachers and multidisciplinary professionals. I have grown along with my students, shaping my techniques to suit a variety of circumstances. I look forward to a professional lifetime honing my skills as I work with my students. Thank you for considering my application. SLP Personal Purpose Audiology Autistic Children

My focus as an undergraduate was towards the goal of attending graduate school and a career path involving the provision of help to children and families. I had no particular interest in communication and speech disorders. My interest was initially fired when volunteering at an ‘early intervention’ program during which I was invited to observe a therapeutic session undertaken by a highly experienced and dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist providing therapy through play. This initial interest in the field was converted into a definite career goal when I began working as an Audiologist Assistant and I began to appreciate how the ability to communicate easily is so basic to human happiness. I now wish to acquire the skills and knowledge to enable me to improve or provide this ability to those whose ability is impaired. From the experience that I have acquired to date in those parts of my career and volunteer work relating to those who suffer difficulties in speech communication, it is clear to me that it takes a very special type of person to treat speech disorders successfully; that empathy, determination and enormous patience, together with substantial technical knowledge and skills are called for in order to achieve optimum outcomes. I believe that I possess these personal qualities and characteristics and would not be making this application if I were not confident of this. I am also confident that I have the academic capability and passion for the subject that will enable me to excel in the program and in my career beyond. I have undertaken significant volunteer work in various capacities and regard this as an obligation rather than a choice. It is my intention to do so in the future to help those who are financially and/or socially disadvantaged. I hope that there may be opportunities to do so once my training within the program is sufficiently advanced. While my career aspirations mainly relate to helping children and young people, I have become increasingly interested in the communication difficulties experienced by the elderly and those affected by brain trauma. The ‘Aging Population’ creates new and significant challenges in enhancing useful and satisfying lives, and communication is clearly a vital component in doing so. I would be very interested in assisting in research in this area of work, if the opportunity arises. I am drawn to your program because I will be exposed to diverse populations and clinical settings, as well as the chance to continue working with faculty members who are passionate about their field and in Moulding excellent future clinicians. To summarize, I am confident that I have the academic potential, basic experience, knowledge and background, personal attributes and, most of all, a genuine passion for this field of study and work to enable me to ‘add value’ to the program, if selected, and to make a significant and positive difference to the lives of my future clients. Thank you for considering my application. SLP Personal Purpose Statement Speech Language and Play #slp #personalstatement #purpose #writingservice #editor #service

I was born and raised in Piura, Peru before immigrating as a young adult to America; thus, I am more Peruvian than American and look forward to contributing to the diversity of your program as a South American woman. After completing my undergraduate degree in education, I began the only related coursework in my country, and completed half of a Master’s Program in Auditory and Language Education 2002-2003, at the Universidad Femenina Del Sagrado Corazon in Lima, Peru. I also completed a practicum at the Hospital del Nino del Peru, working with children with cleft palettes. I did not finish the program because I left Peru to immigrate to the USA as the result of marriage. Nearly a decade later, now fully bilingual and bicultural, I have much more to offer to a graduate program. I have also made California my home, especially the vast Latino community. Thus, my professional interests span two worlds, north and south. I have chosen the career path of becoming a certified SLP because of a concern that I developed as a child and have continued throughout my lifetime, a concern for those people, especially children, who for one reason or another are unable to communicate successfully. I see these children as trapped, and I wish to devote my life to their freedom through expression. I am particularly concerned about the lack of development in this field in my Peru—which I saw close at hand in my practicum at Lima’s Children’s Hospital; and hope to return someday to build a school for children. I was not accepted to your program last year. Since then, I have worked very hard to strengthen my credentials as an applicant in the hope that you might choose me this year. I have earned my Montessori Teaching Certificate and I am now a part-time Head Teacher for a Montessori Kindergarten. I am thrilled with what I see are possibilities for progressive and creative interaction between SLP and the Montessori philosophy. I also volunteer twice a week at a speech therapy clinic. Being Latina is fundamental to my identity as a teacher, and I work at a bilingual school with children that have attention disorders, stutter, or have other problems that inhibit their effective communication and development of appropriate social skills. Facial and vocal exercises are part of our routine. I also spend two afternoons per week at the Speech Pathology Clinic in Berkeley, translating for little Latinos in the Head Start Program. I prepare materials, do assessments, discuss cases, observe, and translate assessments for the Latino community. I use sign language to tell stories to special children who are hard of hearing, deaf, have Down’s syndrome, etc. I look forward to a long and productive career with enormous professional growth both here in California and back home in Peru. My experiences in Peru working at the Children’s Hospital have stayed with me, the terrible scarcity of resources devoted to this area. Becoming an SLP professional in California will provide me with a platform from which I will be able to someday return to Peru and build a special needs school for children in need of communication therapy. My application is strengthened by the fact that I am fully fluent in both written and spoken Portuguese; and this may be of critical importance to future professional networking with colleagues in Brazil. Most importantly, however, I have been taking classes in American Sign Language at Berkeley City College and have achieved an intermediate level and a basic level in Swedish Sign Language. I look forward to developing a special research interest in your program in the area of the speech problems of newly arriving members of the Latino community, helping them to overcome misunderstandings, prejudices, and to seek the remedial attention that their children need. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for again taking my application into consideration. MA Personal Purpose Communicative Sciences and Disorders

  • MS Speech-Language Pathology Personal Purpose

XXXX University is close to where I live; but I am also extremely excited about the excellence of your program and would have been willing to travel if needed to have made this possible. Your outstanding program at Towson is my first choice for graduate study. I was born in New York but moved shortly after my birth, raised in a military family, I moved around a lot as a young child. With each grade, I found myself attending a different school until high school. While this was at times traumatic growing up, it has helped to fortify my ability to make friends quickly, and to get along well with people from all levels of society. I feel this experience during my adolescence contributed to my ability to relate and get along well with people. First, I earned my associate degree from XXXX Community College with a concentration in Education; next, I earned my BS in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology with a minor in Psychology at XXXX. I know people studying in the master's Program and I hope to be admitted to that I too will one day have the privilege of a rigorous preparation for the comprehensive examination that is required. My long-term goal is simply to be happy and to continue working in special education as a SLP. I do want my master's degree, however, so that I will be able to assume greater levels of responsibility and experience the fulfillment that accompanies professional advancement. One of the many reasons why I love the field of Speech-Language Pathology is the vast array of professional opportunities arising out of a greater awareness in our communities of the importance of SLP, from our educational institutions to our medical profession. I find the medical track of speech therapy to be undergoing especially amazing progress. I cannot wait for the chance to perform through participation in an off-campus clinical practicum in a hospital. I have 6 years' experience in two different non-public special education schools, and I am anxious to be challenged by new, real-world experiences in SLP. My ideal job would be to have my own practice here in the XXXX area providing speech therapy services, especially for children of the uninsured who might otherwise not seek help. It is important to me that I continue to give back to my community. Becoming an SLP profession is my journey that only begins with your program but will last for the rest of my professional life. I am ready to begin the career I want to have until I am no longer able to work at my best potential. I’ve worked in an educational setting for 6 years surrounded by teachers, social workers, psychologists, behavior specialists, occupational therapists, as well as SLPs and I deeply know I want to be a SLP. One of the benefits offered to me at the school I am currently employed at is the opportunity to go back to school tuition free at a local university. I have the option of going back to school and becoming a licensed special education teacher, with the choice to also earn a master's degree in special education. Even with this opportunity I know I would rather challenge myself to become the SLP I am meant to be. I have been on the other side of graduate school, the professional work setting, and I know what it takes to be a SLP. Another reason XXXX University should choose me over other qualified applicants is because XU is the one and only school to which I am applying. XU is my alma mater. XU is where I earned my B.S. in Speech-Language pathology, and it is where I want to earn my M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology. After I attended XU meet and greet and heard about the new speech clinic where on-campus practicum would be heard I knew XU was the only school for me. The new speech clinic will be in a brand-new community wellness center. The wellness center will offer a range of programs and services designed to provide health and wellness to individuals and their families. After hearing about the new wellness center where on-campus practicum will take place, I was extremely excited. What a wonderful facility for the community. It was at this moment I realized why I genuinely want to be a SLP, to give back to the community. I have always had a desire to help others. I want to make more of a difference in the lives of my students and their families than I have as a classroom assistant. I want to make more of a difference in each workday. I want to help individuals and their families communicate to the best of their abilities. MS Speech-Language Pathology Personal Purpose

  • MPH Personal Purpose Health Management and Policy

The seeds for my academic and career paths were planted at a very tender age. Indeed, summer vacations found me wearing my school uniform, so reminiscent of a nurse’s uniform, and going to work with my mother, a district nurse. My mother’s example as a compassionate care provider instilled in me the value of contributing to society by helping others. Professionally, I feel that I have exhausted every path of opportunity and challenge at my current academic level. As Project Coordinator for Bermuda Health Council, I am attuned to the distinct need for enhanced healthcare management and policy measures to establish a more viable and sustainable healthcare system. It was during undergraduate study that I first noted the fundamental relationship between the analytical aspects of Biology and its practical applications to healthcare, a relationship I grew eager to explore. Firsthand experiences during college have made me resolute to excel in Public Health. The untimely loss of six loved ones to cancer and traffic accidents, have reaffirmed my life’s mission, to contribute to society, and more significantly, not let their losses to have been in vain. The obvious impact on my studies does not reflect the mature student that I am, nor does it consider my professional experiences. Moreover, the birth of my daughter found me promising to myself and to her future, to be an example of what can be accomplished through perseverance. Engaging in an MPH program with an emphasis on Health Management and Policy will enable me to bring many of my goals to fruition. Foremost in my mind is to instigate healthcare policy reform, establishing standards for improving systemic efficiencies. Furthermore, I intend to develop protocols to evaluate healthcare indicators, advocate for cost-containing measures, foster stakeholder collaboration, and promote healthier lifestyle choices particularly concerning the prevention and management of chronic diseases. By publishing my findings, I am confident our model for reform could prove useful to other communities. An MPH will be an excellent foundation from which I can pursue an MD in Internal Medicine, eventually filling the position of Chief Medical Officer, expanding my influence from the health of individuals to entire communities. Building on my academic and volunteer experiences, I have expanded my research capacity, developed, and completed projects and reports and met with various public health stakeholders through the Health Council. My projects include investigating methods to regulate pharmaceutical costs and assessing the feasibility for implementing a trauma registry. Public Health has increasingly presented itself as an exciting and dynamic field, and I look forward to immersing myself further. XXXX is my sole choice for academic development and research. XXXX stood out to me from other schools as being a professional school of excellence where I could naturally progress from Public Health to medicine. I look forward to attending XXXX with great eagerness, in preparation for larger contributions to the only field that has ever brought me personal and professional satisfaction. Thank you for your time and consideration. MPH Personal Purpose, Health Management and Policy

  • OT Master’s Occupational Therapy Personal Statement

I always wanted to ‘make a difference’ rather than merely make a living and I considered several healthcare careers to enable me to achieve my goal. I have opted to seek a career in Occupational Therapy for several reasons. I want to work in a field in which long-term relationships with patients are the norm, witnessing and sharing the joy of progress being made with my client and their family. I am aware that OT is a vital and increasingly necessary practice, especially for our ‘aging population’. While a child in Vietnam, I watched my grandmother, gradually decline from Leukemia, and become increasingly distressed as her mobility decreased. I learned later, as an adult, that specialist intervention could have helped her and decided that I should like to help other people’s grandparents to relearn or retain their mobility and to maintain their ‘joie de vivre’ for as long as possible. I come from a culture in which the aged are treated with special respect and care for their experience and knowledge. This application is being made after substantial research. I have read extensively about the profession, volunteered at an OT Hand Clinic during the summer and interned as an assistant to several Occupational Therapists at United Cerebral Palsy. Working with caring and skilled professionals has been an inspiring experience and confirmed my choice of career path in OT. While shadowing at UCP, I had the opportunity to assist Jennifer, an Occupational Therapist, in weekly sessions with a boy of 3 years diagnosed with Batten Disease, a fatal neurodegenerative condition. The goal was to help him maintain functional skills to prolong his active life and permit him to enjoy the time left to the maximum. The Therapist sought to delay the loss of hand and finger dexterity, caused by the disease. Despite a fatal prognosis and a gradual loss of the ability to do such basic things as feed himself, Jennifer continued to motivate him. A major milestone was enabling him to play with his favorite toy, Playdoh, and to integrate this into his therapy sessions to maintain a degree of strength. My bachelor's degree is in Psychology and Social Behavior. I have experience working with children as an ‘Inclusion Facilitator’, helping children with special needs to improve their behaviors and as an Applied Behavior Analysis Therapist helping children on the Autism spectrum. I have also undertaken voluntary work with Special Needs children as a Behavioral Therapist at an OT based ‘karate clinic’. Taken together with my specific exposure to the work of OT’s, I regard my professional and volunteer background as providing an excellent basis for future OT training. I have assisted in research projects and have thoroughly enjoyed this exposure. I see the characteristics of an excellent Occupational Therapist as overlapping with those of a good researcher. Both need to be able to plan and set realistic but challenging goals, to be flexible in reaching those goals, to be determined, positive and single minded, to co-operate happily with others to achieve common goals and to have the ability to think analytically, creatively, and originally when dealing with a problem. I know that each patient is unique and that the problems of each call for a ‘tailor-made’ approach in consultation with the patient and professionals from other specialties where necessary. I have happily worked, studied, and socialized with people of many cultural and social backgrounds. I understand that cultural awareness and sensitivity is vital in healthcare provision and especially in a field in which positive long-term relationships need to be created and maintained to maximize effectiveness. As an immigrant myself, I am aware of the challenges involved in adapting to a new cultural environment. I have had the opportunity to study in Spain for several months, I am fascinated by cultural contrasts and enjoy exposure to other cultures and sharing knowledge of my own rich heritage. I speak English, Vietnamese, and Spanish. I am aware that there is a shortage of trained therapists, and that this shortage is felt most keenly in deprived communities. It is my hope to work in such a community and to spread knowledge about the value of OT to those who might be unaware of its great value and especially among the many formerly fit but aging members of the population who may wish to prolong their active life but be unaware of how this might be achieved. To summarize: I have a bachelor degree in subjects that are highly relevant to the specialty; I have significant voluntary and professional experience in relating to patients on a one to one basis; I am familiar with the work of therapists from my shadowing and volunteer experience; I believe that I possess the personal characteristics and academic potential that will enable me to become an excellent therapist. However, my main recommendation is a genuine passion to acquire the high-level skills and knowledge that will enable me to achieve my goal of helping others to achieve and maintain an active and happy life. • MPH Personal Purpose Community and Behavioral Health

It was difficult not to be aware early in life of deficiencies in health provision, unequal availability of health services and to endemic disease, such as cholera, and especially affecting the rural population, in my home country of Rwanda. From an early age, it had been my hope to do something about the situation that I witnessed around me, but I was unsure how I might achieve this. My interest in public health, as a particular field of study and practice that would enable me to ‘make a difference’, came when I was in sixth grade when we were made aware of the World Health Organization’s Millennium Development Goals. It occurred to me then that this was a discipline which would equip me to make a real difference involving, as it does, health education, disease prevention and the study of inequalities in healthcare. My objective in making this application is to acquire the highest level of skills and knowledge in my chosen area of study and particularly in Community and Behavioral Health to enable me to return to my home country and assist in improving the health of rural families. My ambition is to start an NGO to advance public health of rural populations in Rwanda and surrounding countries and to pass on my passion and knowledge to a new generation of Public Health specialists by teaching. In my undergraduate studies, I have acquired knowledge that has developed my understanding of public health issues. Being a double major student in Pre-Professional Biology and Environmental studies has provided me with insights on how humans relate to their environments and the consequences of such interaction. You will note that my GPA score is exceptional and will provide an assurance of my potential to excel within the program. In addition to relevant academic studies, I have also sought opportunities that would allow me experience what public health means in the real world. As you will observe, from my CV, I have considerable experience as a volunteer and intern in activities relating to health and to the disadvantaged, both here and in Rwanda. During my Rwandan internship, I learned a great deal about the deficiencies in the system and the challenges faced by healthcare providers in the face of scarcity of resources which, I believe, will be of significant relevance in my future studies and work. I believe that exposure to ‘real life’ situations are vital to those studying this specialty to ensure that real people with real problems do not become mere ‘budgetary units’ or statistical data in the minds of those who have responsibility for improving the lives of real people. It is my intention to seek such ‘real world’ exposure throughout my future studies and career to ensure that I retain my focus on the underlying ‘why’ of my studies and work. I am particularly interested in research relating to the control of infectious diseases most prevalent in the developing world. I am aware of the success of several countries in the control of Ebola and would be interested to establishing and comparing how this success was achieved in different countries and how ‘best practice’ might be replicated in the case of other diseases and in the case of other countries. Cancer prevention and the relationship between literacy and health are also areas in which I have an interest and in which I would be interested in assisting research. In addition to my undergraduate science studies, I have undertaken courses in sociology and psychology which I believe is highly relevant to the program and my future work. I have also taken math courses such as discrete math, algebra, statistics, and calculus which have developed my logical thinking and will assist me in the application of statistical methods in research. I have happily studied, worked, and socialized with people from many social and ethnic backgrounds and relate well to others. I enjoy sharing information about my own culture and learning about others. I speak two African languages; I also speak French and English and have a basic understanding of Spanish, which I intend to improve. I also have a well-developed sense of humor. This application is made after careful thought and research. I am particularly attracted to your program because of the prestigious faculty, the relevance of the areas of research being undertaken to my personal interests and objectives and by the successful outcomes for graduates of the program. I look forward to adding to the diversity of the student body and sharing my own unique insights from my life experiences and academic career. I am confident that I shall be able to ‘add value’ to the department, the university and to do credit to both in my future career. I am confident that I possess the academic ability, determination, diligence, as my academic success to date will attest, together with the passionate interest in this field of study that will enable me to acquire the high level of skills and knowledge from the program that will fit me to be one of those who can identify and implement vital changes in the provision and sharing of health services in my country and beyond. Thank you for considering my application. MPH Personal Purpose Community and Behavioral Health #mph #communityhealth #publichealth #masterdegree

  • MPA Personal Purpose Statement Public Non-Profit Management

My career and academic choices to date may not make me a typical candidate for this program, however my career path arose because of an urgent need to provide financial assistance to my family in Ghana and I now wish to change the course of my life to ‘make a difference’ rather than just make a living. My desire to study towards the MPA degree arises because, unlike I suppose the majority of candidates, I have witnessed at first hand the devastating effects of poorly organized, funded and corrupt public services in my home country and I have had a strong and growing desire to play, even if only a small part, in improving the situation that detrimentally affects the daily lives of so many of my countrymen and women. I see the program as being a springboard to meeting this ardent ambition. I seek entry to the ‘Public and Non –Profit Management’ track of the program. It is my hope to be admitted to the program to acquire the higher skills and knowledge that will enable me to return to Ghana and enter government service and thereafter to do my part in improving administration and the training and development of others working in the public service. I am aware that I cannot single-handedly change a culture of indifference and corruption, but I aim to be one of the catalysts to changes in culture, attitudes, and behavior. I would seek to serve in the field of child protection, which appears to me to be an area which is vital to the country’s future but is not currently a matter of government priority. This is an area in which I might make a difference for the maximum benefit of others. Having worked in an ‘orphan outreach program’ in Ghana, I have some knowledge of the depth of problems in this area. The other alternative is to find employment in an effective NGO and seek to make a difference to the system by working outside it. The problems in Ghana can hardly be over-stated as indicated by poor infant mortality, literacy rates and life expectancy, among other measures. I am realistic enough to understand that a great deal of work by many determined, intelligent and hard-working people over many years will be required to ‘turn things around’ but I wish to play my part in doing so. I hope to assist in research related to child protection, by comparing the relative effectiveness of methods applied in different countries. The skills acquired and developed in my working life have direct relevance to the demands of any academic program and particularly to successful research. I am a successful financial advisor, and this success is derived from first class analytical skills, an ability to elicit the trust and confidence of clients and colleagues and in demonstrating excellent communication skills. The pressures involved in my average working day call on abilities to prioritize and multi-task effectively. Most importantly, I have a genuine interest in providing maximum benefit to my clients and I see this as a key characteristic in a first-class public servant. I have happily worked, studied, served, and socialized with people from many cultural and social backgrounds. I enjoy meeting new people and sharing experiences and cultural knowledge and I have a well-developed sense of humor. I look forward to interacting with students and faculty who share my enthusiasm and passion for this area of study. My atypical background, together with my experience of living and working in an under-developed nation will enable me to bring unique insights to the program which I look forward to sharing. The program is an ‘ideal fit’ for my purposes. I know that the program has been developed over many years and has acquired a prestigious reputation. I know that I will be guided by a dedicated and highly qualified faculty. I am also attracted by the impressive breadth of the fields of study available. I am aware that the mix of technology based and traditional teaching methods that has been developed is highly effective and that employers highly seek the services of the program graduates. I possess the necessary academic potential, knowledge base, characteristics, and the genuine passion for this field of study to enable me to ‘add value’ to the program. I assure the reader that I will bring a determination to excel and that I will apply myself diligently and enthusiastically for my own benefit, that of my fellow students, the faculty, and the children of Ghana. Thank you for considering my application. MPA Personal Purpose Statement Public Non-Profit Management #MPA #PersonalPurpose #Statement #Public #Non-Profit #Management

I earned my MBA at XXXX University and now hope to continue to study in your wonderful program where I feel most at home and earn the terminal degree in my field, the Doctor of Business Administration, DBA. I have experienced a supportive yet highly challenging academic environment at XXXX and I am convinced that XXXX University is where I could most excel in a doctoral program. I am most impressed by the quality of your doctoral in Business Administration Program at XXXX University both with respect to content and the excellent faculty - particularly the breadth of the core and major curriculums. I also appreciate the great diversity among my colleagues and the opportunity to expand my network at XXXX University. I look forward to the opportunity to continue to cultivate an ethic of service as an integral part of my professional advancement and in this way make my foremost contribution to the business community. I hope to become an expert consultant for businesses and brands, helping them to achieve recognition, loyalty, and to expand their potential and reach new heights. I have also set my mind to continue research and teach others who seek to excel in this complex, fascinating, and rapidly evolving field. Coming from a hardworking middle-class family, I grew up seeing my father working extremely hard to sustain our family business of manufacturing leather goods. Working at one of his stores throughout my senior year in high school sparked that entrepreneurial mindset and the curiosity of business mechanism in me. I recognized that we could reach a certain sales volume, but never excelled to the next level. It was not until college that I established that we lacked a proper brand to dominate the market competition. Always longing to be a leading part of something bigger than the limits I had been confined in my whole life, I set my mind on pursuing a career in marketing. I took the first step as a Social Media Associate, progressed to Marketing Assistant Manager, and finally became Brand Manager after 7 years of fruitful experience. As Brand Manager, I constantly pushed to develop and refine elements of the salon’s brand, as well as to ensure a positive relationship between the customers and the brand. Innovations within this position included re-establishing the salon’s new brand concept to promote city-wide recognition and consumers’ loyalty. In 2015 when I began the Rewards Loyalty Program, we achieved the record of 75% customer retention rate within the first three months of implementation. In 2016, I strategized and launched the biggest sales promotion of the year “You’re the Artist”, allowing customers to freely design their own nails and compete against each other via social media. The promotion was successful, yielding $255,000 gross revenue with an 86% contribution margin. I have been trying to find exciting new ways to propel the business offerings to the top and enhance our market position. My successes to date have been achieved by applying determination, diligence, and intellectual curiosity to exceptional degrees. I took to heart a quotation from Babe Ruth: ‘It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up’. This sums up my attitude to challenges of any kind from the most difficult to the most routine. I apply doggedness together with a highly positive and optimistic attitude, which has served me well and is what I always try to instill in those I mentor. My passion, throughout my university time in both Vietnam and America, continued to be Digital and Social Media Marketing and Analytics. As digitization revolutionizes marketing strategy, I am fascinated by the ways in which the global emergence of social networking, new customer monitoring tools, and smart devices have helped in data collection and revolutionized the modes of communication by which businesses and brands engage with consumers. I am eager to initiate research and initiate new models that effectively recognize consumer perception to develop effective online marketing strategies. The key question that I seek to answer is: ‘How do we systematically create and evaluate marketing strategies by applying more science and data analytics into our predictive modeling?’ Finally, with determination, dedication, and perseverance, I intend to become a worthy candidate for the DBA program by accumulating knowledge in the field, planning for future research initiatives, and cultivating groundbreaking models of marketing for global businesses. An excellent academic record coupled with a successful career in Marketing will allow me to excel rather than merely succeed in the program. • Residency Otolaryngology Personal Statement

medico da tratamientoI first became interested in head and neck surgery at the age of six. Suffering from congenital cholesteatoma AD, I pursued medical treatment at a local hospital. One of the otolaryngologists, Dr. XXXX, elegantly removed the offending mass with such precision and compassion, the course of my life was changed. Unfortunately, at age eleven, I detected a small glomus tumor in my four year old sister's left ear, using an otoscope I had received at Christmas. Although I was only in fifth grade at the time, I was fortunate enough to assist in the surgery. Again, my desire to be a head and neck surgeon was stimulated. By age fifteen I had perfected a technique for endolymphatic shunt placement for treatment of Meniere's disease in a neonatal gerbil model. At this time I was also supporting myself, and my six brothers and sisters by moonlighting at a local hospital, resecting thyroglossal duct cysts and inserting PE tubes. In high school, for my senior science project, I developed a protocol for immunohistochemical staining of tumor antigen in disseminated squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. In 1981, I began my undergraduate studies at Yale University. My major, a combination of art history and classical literature, was custom designed to incorporate the necessary premedical requirements. Interestingly, due to a shortage of faculty during winter semester, I was allowed to instruct the ENT residents of Yale-New Haven Hospital on techniques of skull base surgery; these techniques were taught to me by my father, the late emeritus professor of head and neck surgery at the University of Michigan. My college career culminated, however, in my selection as most outstanding undergraduate. I received this award in 1985, after personally organizing and designing a large shelter for the homeless in New Haven. The four years I had spent in Connecticut were rewarded, finally, when my research project, regression of Inverted Papilloma After Treatment with Gamma-Interferon" was accepted to the British journal Nature. In 1985, I moved to San Francisco to attend the University of California. During my first summer, I traveled to Eastern Africa, where I helped to set up an immunization program for underprivileged children. I returned to my studies in California, concentrating on the basic sciences. After election to AOA, I eagerly entered the clinical clerkships, where I found otolaryngology to be everything I had imagined. The faculty and residents were wonderful, allowing me to perform several cases from start to finish, including a vertical hemilaryngectomy and a stapedectomy. During one operative session I was fortunate enough to fashion a small ossicular prosthesis out of bone wax, which has since been patented; the residual income from this endeavor has helped to support a newly opened otolaryngologic facility at the University of California. Ultimately, I was selected as most outstanding student in surgery for 1987. In the past three years, I have continued my research with tremendous success. In the future, I hope to attain a position as an academic otolaryngologist specializing in head and neck cancer and skull base surgery. With my extensive research and clinical background, I feel I ma well prepared for these endeavors. When I was a kid, I used to get earaches. Otitis media is a common scourge for small children, as many physicians and parents know. I was lucky enough to have had a good Otolaryngologist who took care of the pain and the problem, and I made it through the years without suffering permanent hearing loss. As it turns out, that's been a good thing for me. Not long after the chronic earache era, I developed a fascination for the piano. I couldn't pass by one without plinking out tunes I had learned by ear. My parents eventually gave in and bought us a piano - and ever since, though I didn't know it at the time, I have been preparing for a career in otolaryngology. Though medical school has given me concrete knowledge that will prepare me for this field, the rest of my life has prepared me in ways that can't easily be measured. Music has been at the center of my life since those early piano days. I was lucky enough to have a great piano teacher, John Sunds ten, who taught me the discipline of practice and the joy of mastery. he eventually taught my brother and three sisters. We even became small scale local celebrities by playing in hospitals, at weddings and on a television program. By the time I reached high school, I was ready for new musical challenges and won a lead role my senior year in the musical, The Pajama Game. I kept singing though college, and joined a 16-member a cappella group called Mixed Company. With them I performed in more than 100 shows and recorded an album. In addition to developing an interest in voice, it was at Stanford that I committed myself to a career in medicine. After graduation, I did my best to achieve this goal by doing full time research under Robert Sawin and David Tapper, pediatric surgeons at the University of Washington Children's Hospital. I also worked as a technologist at a vascular diagnostic company and learned how to use transcranial doppler. For the first time I worked with patients - a milestone. I also monitored blood flow to the brains of patients undergoing carotid endarterectomies - something that drew me toward a career working with this fascinating area of the body. It wasn't all work after graduation, though. I studied voice with one of Seattle's best teachers, and learned how the head and neck are used to create music. The Netter anatomy plates he used for instruction especially drew my attention. I look forward to a time when I can continue to train my vocal cords in such a scientific way. While I didn't have a specialty in mind when I started medical school, it has become increasingly clear to me with my study, work experience and passion for music that this is simply what I must do. No other field combines surgery, head and neck physiology and anatomy, clinical outpatient care and oncology with such a variety of patient ages and problems. No other field speaks so clearly to my interests. Though I've spent many years working to become a doctor, I've spent my life working to become a musician. I understand how physiology translates into self-expression and the creation of art, and how important health in these areas is to my future patients. For me, there would be no better marriage of mind and soul than to practice this kind of medicine. Thank you for considering me for your program. Residency Otolaryngology Personal Statement

As an MBA student, I look forward to paying special attention to the study of foreign investments in developing countries, particularly the role of leadership by women in business and public administration. I have been an active member of the Ukrainian cycling society throughout my adult life – part of a small minority of women in the organization - organizing and running cycling events for years and this has helped me to develop my leadership skills, communication abilities, and my ability to organize and multitask. My country, Ukraine, has been suffering in recent years from war, a sluggish economy, inefficient management, and extremely elevated levels of corruption, leaving ordinary people struggling for survival. We need a new generation of leaders with more liberal, creative views, not so anchored in the struggles and competition of the past but able to re-work institutions anew. In addition to my volunteer activities in cycling and fundraising, for the last 4 years I have also been helping a network of orphanages. I fly to the USA for a month every year for business meetings and to Great Britain for cycling as well as business. I go to France to ski as well as cycle and ski in Germany. My interest in pediatrics was initially prompted by a formative experience during my rotation in the specialty. I was involved in a very complex case where the patient was a newborn with multiple congenital anomalies and cyanotic attack. Because of her critical condition, she was referred to most pediatric subspecialties such as neurology, G.I., cardiovascular and genetics. This exposed me to almost all pediatric fields over a very short period of time. I did a great deal of personal research in this case and made a primary diagnosis of trisomy 13 or 18. I was delighted when the results of the chromosomal analysis of the blood sample matched for trisomy 13. Unfortunately my little patient died at 44 days but treating her fired in me a passion for pediatric medicine involving as it does the most valuable and the most vulnerable of patients. During the past year I have been working as a pediatrics resident in one of the finest hospitals in Saudi Arabia. I have worked with children in inpatient wards, E.R. and clinics and I have realized that I not only enjoy communicating with, and reassuring, children and their families but that I have a particular facility for doing so. These experiences have strongly confirmed me in my decision to pursue this specialty and thus I now seek exposure to a larger population than that currently available to me in order to broaden my experience. I recently spent a month in Canada and greatly enjoyed my visit which exposed me to people from a wide variety of ethnic and social backgrounds. I have also had the good fortune to work with alumni of Canadian universities who appear to be characterized by an excellent work ethic together with broad and up to date knowledge. These are the reasons that I am seeking further training specifically in Canada. My academic results and professional experience to date will, I hope, provide adequate assurance that I can profit from a residency and, more importantly, provide excellent professional care. I work happily in a team and seek to share my own knowledge and skills as well as seeking to profit from the experiences of colleagues. I am aware that I shall be required to adapt very quickly to a new working environment in a culture to which I have had only limited exposure. However I am an adaptable and friendly person who has worked very happily in teams with people of different ethnicities and social backgrounds in my home country and I look forward eagerly to extending such exposure in Canada. It is my hope to undertake research in the area of pulmonology. I acquired an interest in this area during voluntary campaign work in connection with H1N1 and in TB prevention. As I have worked in an academic hospital, I have had the opportunity to teach, I have greatly enjoyed doing so and believe that I have been very effective in this role. It is my hope eventually to combine teaching and practicing in the future. A residency providing a broad and varied patient base will assist me in achieving my goals and enable me to share the knowledge acquired with a future generation of pediatric specialists. I am aware that there will be competition from many well qualified applicants but genuinely feel that my professional experience to date and, more importantly, my passion for this specialty makes me an exceptional candidate. Thank you for considering my application. Residency Personal Statement Pediatrics CARMs, Canada
