My homeland of Thailand is a developing, emerging nation, with little emphasis or interest in Public Administration. As I began contemplating a career, I wondered what I could do to make positive and progressive change happen in my community. Working as a part-time professor at XXXX University in Thailand, teaching political science, government management and policymaking, I felt a powerful desire to develop my knowledge further so that I could maximize my contribution to society. This is why I began to focus my studies on Public Administration. I immigrated to America to not only immerse myself in a different culture and meet people with different ideas, but also have a chance to study in one of the world’s finest educational institutions. In America, opportunities for the exposure that I needed were everywhere, especially in the capital, Washington, D.C., where 80% of federal governmental agencies are headquartered. This access is unprecedented for someone like me, and I was eager to get started. I compare other countries’ public administration to Thailand, something that will help me develop Thai public administration through increased understanding of global models and worldviews. I hope to attain the best education possible in Public Administration education and then return to Thailand where I can contribute to the Thai educational system in Public Administration, making it more accessible and effective. There is a distinct need in Thailand for people to become educated, with new skills to fill new jobs that are coming. I want to teach Public Administration in Thailand to help ensure a well-educated labor supply and educational advancement in this vital area of studies. If I am to bring my plans, goals, and dreams to reality, I need to increase my depth of understanding of Public Administration, particularly systematic and advance knowledge of how to develop Public Administration programs. Additionally, I want to further refine my existing leadership skills as I want to lead in the educational field as well as being the finest administrator I can be. By studying in a world-class graduate program such as Public Administration Program at the XXXX School at the University of XXXX, I will be able to develop my theoretical understanding, and in-depth empirical approaches to make creative and sustainable administrative decisions, develop a core set of expertise in administrative strategies, and further build upon my research skills. I bring with me to your accomplished student body and exceptional program a solid foundation in Political Science. I have already completed an MA degree in Political Science here in America. This graduate program enabled me to develop excellent time management skills in a deadline-oriented environment, skills that will aid me invaluably as my career advances. I bring with me extensive experience in international education. Not only have I been educated on two diverse continents, but I also have one-year of experience studying in New Zealand where I also developed volunteer experience in healthcare management and learned a great deal about diverse public administration systems. I look forward with great eagerness to giving my all to your MPA program at UXX. I do not do this just for me, but for my homeland, so that I can help to streamline public administration systems in Thailand enabling my people to prosper and to build sustainable organizations for the future. Thank you for your time and consideration. Masters Public Administration Personal Statement MPA

  • Personal Purpose DBA Healthcare Administration

I hope very much to be accepted to and complete the Doctor of Business Administration Degree (DBA) at XXXX University with a focus on Healthcare Management as the crowning achievement in my formal education. I completed my MBA online and I am thus quite familiar and comfortable with online graduate study. My strongest asset, however, is the practical education that I have acquired because of my long and distinguished record of accomplishment as a hospital administrator. The business aspects of hospital management are what I know best, and this is the primary reason I hope to be accepted to XXXX University, since this is also your central focus. I want to pursue my education online so that I can immediately put what I am learning to effective use in the management of the hospital where I serve. Since April of 2017, I have been the CEO of XXXX Hospital in Maldives. Prior to beginning this position, I spent for 4 years as the CEO of XXXX General Hospital in Papua New Guinea. I do NOT see myself as a public health professional; rather, I am a hospital administrator. My clear recognition of the difference provides me with focus and the capacity to find creative solutions to issues in healthcare management at the administrative level. While I do operate programs that cross over into primary and public healthcare, because of completing your DBA Program at XXXX, I hope to contribute to increases in the administrative efficiency and the development of better controls and strategies to rein in the costs of management of secondary and tertiary healthcare facilities. With our aging global population, there is increasing demand for hospital care; and we need to be able to do more with less. At12, I was planning to go into Actuarial Studies, because I excelled in and enjoyed Math, but I also loved animals and thought I could be a great veterinarian. Math was always relatively easy for me; and I also enjoyed my studies of Law and Economics. While I liked the idea of helping animals, I could not bear to see them in pain, and Vet Science fell off my map for the future after a better investigation of this field. My interest in Math, Law, and Economics led me to study business and that has been my principal focus ever since. I completed two business orientated degrees, the Bachelor of Business (Dual Majors in Accounting and Law) and a Master of Business Administration (Strategic Management). My MBA was completed via Distance Learning (Charles Sturt University - Australia) so I am used to the self-discipline required to earn a degree online, undertake readings, research etc. I waited a long time before going to graduate school because I wanted to make sure that I had chosen the right industry and career before embarking on a course of study that would involve many years of my life. I began in hospitality and 8 years later moved into healthcare where I remain today.  Thus, I have been working in people-orientated industries for more than 2 decades; and I have now been in healthcare for over a decade-and-a-half in seven countries (Australia, Bangladesh, India, Mauritius, UAE, Papua New Guinea, and Maldives). All these countries, except for Australia and the UAE, have been emerging/developing nations where strategic planning, and human resource development systems and standards are especially challenging. Being Australian, the affordability and quality of health care that my family and I receive is something that I have always taken for granted, as every person should have the right to the highest standard of physical and mental health. It is my goal to make a significant contribution to the health of citizens in my community through effective management, clinical operations, and delivery of health care services. I love environments that allow me to ensure that there is a place for everything and everything is in its place. The ability to build systems, with follow-up mechanisms to ensure accountability is something to which I have always given my all and will continue to perfect every day that I shall live, thinking as creatively as possible, both inside and outside the box at the same time. Assessing local HR capabilities and resources is my special passion. All my healthcare roles have required considerable evidence-based planning for conception and implementation. I have labored to gain Joint Commission Accreditation in Bangladesh, India, and the UAE, for example, building quality healthcare systems. In Papua New Guinea we were faced with a severe lack of blood available for surgery – there is no culture of pro-active donation, no education on the benefits of donation (to either the donor of recipient {although the latter is a little more self-evident}). We launched two major programs – Corporate Health Drive (tag line “we don’t need your money; we need your blood”) and the Youth Blood Drive (Spread the Red www.youthblooddrive.com ). My work experience and academic background to date has enabled me to be successful in managing the integration of new health care delivery systems, technological innovations, and restructuring of work forces and budgets XXXX University’s Doctor of Business Administration, 100% online program offers precisely what I need, advanced training in professional management, human resources, marketing, and other business-related fields related to hospital management. I appreciate very much the way that your DBA Program is comprised of specialized courses that supply the values, knowledge, and skills needed to advance one’s career and prepare oneself to go on to greater leadership roles in the administration of healthcare at the business level. I am a determined servant and a leader who gives my all to the organization or institution that I serve. A pragmatic realist with focus, I am most of all a finisher.  I don’t start what I don’t intend to finish. Relying more on logic than sentiment, while I am knowledgeable and conversant about preventive medicine and public health ideals, I never lose sight of the real world, especially the ‘business’ of hospital management in the face of limited resources. • MPH Public Health Operations Management Personal Purpose

Born and raised in Kenya, I am proud to be an African woman who in pursuit of a world-class education in preparation for service to my people. I am very much aware of what I see as my moral duty to go back to Africa and serve my people, after having developed the tools and resources to do so effectively. Health care in my country was a disaster when I left two-and-a-half years ago, to come to the U.S. Now, with the raging ethnic conflict that shows no sign of letting up between the major tribal factions in Kenya, disaster has become calamity. I am afraid for my people, and I ask you to prepare me to go back and help them after graduating from your program. I have long been mesmerized with communication and this is why I chose to do my undergraduate work in Information Systems Technology. Health care is my central professional focus in life, and this is why I now want to turn my full attention to the study of the public administration of health care systems. I have a profound appreciation for technology and a deep thirst to learn more about informatics, always with an eye to health care systems. Of course, as an African immigrant, I have also sought to prepare myself to earn a living, and to help my family, and this was one of my inspirations for completing a Certificate Program in Medical Billing and Coding at Johns Hopkins University. This program was invaluable as far as I was able to learn an enormous amount of medical terminology and now feel wonderfully comfortable in this highly specialized area of public management. My greatest strengths as a candidate for your program are that I am an extremely hard worker and a very quick learner; always succeeding at that to which I set my mind and heart to. Kenya needs major help in terms of a complete health systems overhaul; especially in such a way that health care is made increasingly available to those who have heretofore not been able to afford it. I seek the tools to make this possible. I am particularly attracted to the idea of studying at XXXX University, and it is my first choice since I am especially interested in Epidemiology and research into tropical diseases. It will be important for me to put my Swahili back to work someday. Although I am now beginning to even dream in English, I see my future as entailing a lot of research work in Swahili as well. The most important thing to me has always been for Abandoned and Orphaned Children. I have had a broad mix of professional experiences that have helped me to understand a variety of core issues that are of crucial importance to health care reform. I look forward to contributing to the international feel of your academic community at XXXX. I assure you that I will apply myself to the maximum degree possible to excel in your program. I am looking forward to exceptionally long hours studying. The greatest contribution that I might be able to make to society would be to help initiate movement in progressive directions in health care policy especially in Kenya and particularly concerning epidemiology. My country is a complete failure at not only preventing disease, but also diagnosing it accurately. The government has been so focused on wealth creation that it has forgotten that sick people make up an inefficient work force. And I think and work as an African, knowledgeable about and concerned with all African societies, not just my native Kenya. In fact, I have traveled to many African countries. I have lived and worked in Harare Zimbabwe, and visited Botswana, Malawi, Uganda, and Tanzania. Yet it was always my dream to study towards the master's degree in the U.S. This is why I attended the United States International University in Nairobi. I would feel honored to be admitted to your program and in this way have the privilege of contributing to our response to the increasing need for persons who understand African health sectors and can are able to critically analyze, develop, and advocate policies that might stem the tide of death and disease in Africa. My professional experience here in America has also helped to prepare me for study on the graduate level. I am currently the Operations Manager for AcuCare Health Strategies in Reston, Virginia. I manage all financial audits in the company, oversee coding and billing functions, and train staff and assign duties in the operations department, teaching employees, for example, how to mine data easier in Excel. I assist with Customer Service and the education of clients, especially in terms of Home Health Regulations, I possess persuasive communication skills and I am adept at customer service. My organizational skills have helped us to increase customer satisfaction levels from 85% to 98% and to realize 100% on-time delivery of assigned projects. We help clients in getting the appropriate reports needed for the PPS Review depending on the application they are using. I have a strong commitment to the team environment and look forward to contributing further to progressive and creative group dynamics in the development of policies and procedures. I also oversee the A/R and A/P functions of the company using QuickBooks. I am experienced at leading diverse, cross-functional teams in the fulfillment of corporate productivity, quality enhancement and bottom-line objectives. I was recently honored with the Customers Come First Award for consistently resolving customer difficulties in an expedient and tactful manner. Before coming to America, I spent two years as a Systems Manager for Smart Applications International in Nairobi. I managed and maintained the office network; defined and implemented new revenue cycles using online biometric billing and coding software; and developed training programs and material for training the users of the online billing and coding software. I also trained hospital personnel so that they were able to how to use coding and billing software. I provided online help and support for software users over the phone and in person. Finally, I coordinated the development team to provide client feedback and enhanced implementation of ongoing releases, serving as part of a team presenting the benefits of the Biometric Coding and Billing Software to hospitals, clinics, and insurance companies. I am most concerned about the critical public health issues faced not only by Kenya, but most developing countries, the way that trends in health care tend to be limited by the same powerful forces of globalization that drive the economy. Exploding rates of urbanization exacerbate the central problems in Africa as elsewhere and I am deeply passionate about and devoted to the study of demographic trends and epidemiological transitions, especially considering malnutrition. I especially look forward to learning a great deal more about the industrialization of food production, globalization of the food supply and its distribution, and marketing channels, along with what all of this means for the diet of the average person. With the massive move to cities, lifestyles are increasingly sedentary, and obesity has gone global, further exacerbating chronic yet treatable diseases in Africa. African leaders must be encouraged to realize that if they want better health to work as a poverty reduction strategy, they must provide better health care to the poor. We cannot let the costs of health care drive impoverished households ever deeper into poverty. My interest in public health has continued to grow the more that I have become aware of the intricacy of the medical system, especially because of working for a technology company, facilitating collaboration between insurance companies and hospitals. It is here that I hope to fully pursue my capacity as a communicator who can build and continue to strengthen understanding between diverse organizations that all too often adopt adversarial positions. I see this as one of the greatest tasks of the public management specialist, bringing parties together and building bridges of cooperation where they had not existed before. My candidacy to your program is bolstered by the fact that I am already a seasoned administrator with hands-on experience in my native Kenya. I am accustomed to working in Kenya where we do not have a standardized medical system and there is still a lot more use of paper rather than technology. Kenya is in desperate need of my help as a professional health systems designer and administrator, and I ask for admission to your program to fulfill my mission. I want to thank you for your consideration of my application. MPH Public Health Operations Management Personal Purpose

  • MPH Public Health Epidemiology Personal Statement

The Department of Epidemiology at the XXXX School of Public Health is my first choice for graduate school because it is among the best Public Health programs in the world focusing on global Epidemiology. A Chinese man who has worked intensively in English since I was six years old, attending international schools with a primarily English curriculum, I like to think of myself as a near-native speaker/writer, and this will help me to excel in your state-of-the-art program and advance as a scientist. I want to study and do research alongside some of the finest cancer epidemiology research teams on the planet, students, and teachers from all over the world, at Harvard. I also look forward to learning from my student colleagues in your highly international program, particularly those from the Developing World and those concerned with the proliferation of disease in China. Now in my final year of study at the University of XXXX, I will soon graduate with a degree in Animal Science. Most of what I have learned about mammals, in general, will also help me to excel in Public Health Epidemiology. As a student in China, I represented the China Agriculture University on television shows, and I am also a published author in my home country and language. I am completing a joint degree due to collaboration between the China Agriculture University, where I am an Aquaculture major, and the University of XXXX. I will earn my degree from both institutions next May 2017. I am also enrolled in a post-bac, non-degree program with the Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES)-NIH, studying Bioinformatics and Biostatistics in public health. I will finish this course as well in May of 2017. I am especially interested in developing a cutting-edge understanding of the causes of prostate and kidney cancers with the ultimate goal of improving men’s health; thus, I look forward to intensive research projects that integrate epidemiological and biomarker data in international cancer epidemiology cohorts to shed light on the etiology and survival of cancers of the prostate, testis, kidneys, and bladder in men. From a public health perspective, I want to spend the balance of my professional life studying genetic and nutritional factors associated with these cancers worldwide. Thus, XXXX is the ideal location, enabling me to work closely in support of other researchers at HSPH and to learn from world experts about the clinical, biostatistical, and pathological aspects of cancer, especially given that Harvard hosts the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center. In support of cancer research, I look forward to decades of study, design, and analysis in integrative molecular epidemiology. After completing your program and gaining additional research experience, I plan to earn a Ph.D. in Epidemiology, continuing my focus on the interplay between genetic factors on the one hand, and environmental and nutritional factors on the other, always in search of the mechanism behind cancer. I also hope to learn as much as I can at the XXXX Cancer Center about drug treatments to fight prostate and kidney cancer. My ideal job would be to give my all to cancer epidemiology research, and I would like to teach at some point in my career. Most of all, I seek a lifetime and thoroughgoing immersion in the study of integrative molecular epidemiology. Thank you for your consideration of my application to XXXX Public Health. My professional interests, dreams, and aspirations are a perfect fit with the principal focus of your distinguished online program. I have found no other program that compares with the rigors of your MS Program in Health Care Administration at XXU. I feel strongly that completing your program will make me a much better communicator as well as a creative thinker concerning the progressive improvement of health care institutions. What I enjoy most about health care is relationship building, the opportunity to serve as a leader on behalf of an organization, enhancing my professionalism and understanding of the needs of our health care systems.  I see your online program at XXU as the cutting-edge of its field, in particular, because of your close attention to basic business principles that go way beyond human resource management along with organizational dynamics and governance. I particularly admire and feel most excited about your core attention to strategic planning and marketing. In particular, I look forward to a complete immersion not only in all of these areas but I hope to develop a special focus in the areas of quality improvement and information management. I have been working as a dedicated health care professional since completing my undergraduate studies at XXU, a private liberal arts college in Little Rock, Arkansas. I particularly enjoyed mentoring entering students and working on social service projects along with several fraternities. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, in particular, I spent a lot of time coordinating relief projects with church and community leaders. I have also been heavily involved in support of breast cancer victims, AIDS awareness, and homeless outreach. I feel strongly that all of these volunteer experiences are most helpful in preparation for grad school in health administration. I completed my internship in the Spring of 2006 with the XXXX Drug Treatment Center in XXXX, where I gained invaluable experience in documentation as well as patient observation, assisting program directors and staff with various activities and group projects. As a result of this experience, I feel that I have a much better grasp on how non-profit organizations work. After returning to the Bay Area, I accepted a position with XXXX Hospital working as a mental health technician. In this position I have found my voice as professional and I have had a chance to develop my leadership skills. The relationships I developed with administrators and management also helped to inspire me to pursue graduate study in health care administration. Next, I learned a great deal through my position as a mental health counselor with the XXXX Hospital of Behavioral Health where I had the chance to conduct therapeutic group sessions and provide patient education. I very much enjoy working to foster patient independence and promote healthy and safe environments for my patients. In this position I have also had the opportunity to reflect at length concerning the many important ethical issues in my field, particularly with respect to questions of direction towards quality improvement. The consistent fulfillment that I experience as a healthcare worker and volunteer has led me to seek advanced training in my field for professional service. My short term goal, after completing your distinguished program, is to move into a position of administrative leadership within a healthcare organization in my community. My long term goal is to serve as a manager for a government agency, working to streamline the provision of healthcare services in America. I thank you for considering my application to your program. I have long known that I wanted to be involved in health care because Biology was always my favorite subject in school, the classes in which I excelled most. Biology has always had a purpose for me, precisely because of health care, unlocking the mysteries of life to be able to prolong it, to ease human suffering. I have always seen this as the most noble of causes and the cause to which I have become a very dedicated student and professional. Now a US citizen, I am a young woman whose cultural roots come from India. For this reason, I am especially interested in the mammoth task of reforming health care organizations and infrastructure in Developing Countries. From the north of India, I understand not only Hindi but also Urdu, in addition to being fluent in Punjabi. My goal after completing the M.S. in your distinguished HCA program is to contribute to health care reform in India by better understanding the needs of the population, reviewing health care services, assessing and appraising current services and sustaining decision making in the development of these services. Your program at XXU will provide me with the kind of comprehensive immersion that I seek in the study of the myriad and complex ways that health systems have evolved over time; and, most importantly, continue to do so today in creative and progressive ways. I look forward to an in-depth study of the broad spectrum of issues that are seen as most important in our field, our greatest challenges, and opportunities. I also look forward to learning from other graduate students in your program from all over the world, comparing notes about the unique challenges that each one of us has faced, so that we will all become better health care administrators in the areas in which we continue to develop our careers. India has made enormous progress in terms of technological development. But health care is still sub-standard for most people because of the way that the country remains mired in poverty. Most unfortunately, to the extent that India has prospered economically, little has been spent on healthcare. I am especially concerned with the lack of effective and reliable systems for performance control. There is no real health insurance system; we have so many resources, but they are not utilized optimally. Many if not most of the Indians who have the greatest need of health care remain without access. Doctors in India are almost never suspended for negligence; with no one to answer to, doctors frequently become corrupt and exploit the people. I am concerned that there is no form of control over the performance of health care providers in India; no one must take responsibility for the errors committed, and this not only leads to great loss of life and much suffering but reinforces a low level of scientific and practical performance among health care providers. For this reason, it is my profound home to contribute to the creation of a health care system that has adequate standards of performance for the Indian people. I keenly look forward to studying the keystone principles of HCA in your program so that I will someday be able to exert an influence over decision making and policymaking in health care system management. By studying towards the M.S. in HCA program at XXU, I will receive a world-class foundation in the principles of health care reform and implementation and will learn how to work on the forefront of health care promotion and improvement. I want to have the privilege of helping India to adopt a modern model of health care management. I thank you for considering my application to your program. • MPH Personal Purpose Statement Examples Africa

I am applying to the XXXX School of Public Health primarily because of the centrality of its mission to improve health care in the Developing World, especially Africa. I have a chance of being accepted to your program because of the potential that I have for contributing to the fight to help some of the world’s most vulnerable infants and children to survive in critically hostile environments. I also deeply appreciate the way that this struggle in my home country, Nigeria, is a global struggle, full of implications for other frontiers of the battle against AIDS, Malaria, Polio and even diarrhea. I seek lifetime immersion in the study of how and why African mothers and babies often die as a direct result of the birthing process. My earliest levels of awareness of the medical profession resulted from assisting my physically challenged cousin during my childhood. When I learned that his suffering resulted from our failure to vaccinate against this disease, something lit up in my brain and I began to find greater direction and purpose in my studies. By the time that we lost both my aunt and her baby during childbirth, my destiny had become sealed in my mind as I became determined that someday I would make my mark in health care as a physician and surgeon with a special dedication to obstetrics and gynecology. Last year I finished medical school and this year I co-founded an NGO (Health Forte Nigeria Initiative) providing basic health services in certain rural areas of southwest Nigeria. We are funded by the non-governmental business sector, a solidarity that is of critical importance for ongoing public health development. I have also worked in PEP-FAR clinics; and I have participated in so many failed PMTCT initiatives that this has become a very personal cause for me as well. I am an optimist, and it is my generation that will transform Nigeria to a land where everyone will have access to affordable health care and free emergency care. I keenly look forward to helping to eradicate malaria and other vaccine-preventable diseases in Sub Saharan Africa. My optimism and my passion for innovative research and development in public health initiatives for the Developing World were enhanced by my visit to the UK where I had the privilege of completing a course on Health Economics last October 2010. As a physician and surgeon, I have acquired special training in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and it is in this area that I especially look forward to making important contributions. I have extensive experience within Nigerian hospitals and the provision of health care services, both public and private. As a Medical Officer and General Medical Practitioner, I take pride in serving as an integral member of the team responsible for the development of health care provision. I was especially honored by being invited to serve as a member of the panel responsible for developing the 2011 Health Care Bill recently submitted to the Nigerian National Assembly. I have established numerous working relationships at every level of Nigerian health care sectors and have developed a special interest in the development of collaborative liaisons between health care institutions and the business community, working to secure funding and support for critical health care projects under development by NGOs, including large hospitals. Emphasizing the importance of preventive medicine stands at the center of my intellectual and professional world. XXXX’s School of Public Health is my first choice for graduate school because it is the flagship program that is the optimal location for me to be able to most fully develop my capacity as a researcher, forever laboring to decipher the complex human, ethical, and politico-economic factors that undergird the challenges of public health care in today’s Africa. • MPH Global Public Health Personal Purpose Contagious Disease

The path that has led me to the field of Public Health began at a tender age. My mother, a nurse, was instrumental in my being health conscious, making informed decisions became second nature, and keeping my body in optimum condition by participating in sports was not only recreational, but an obvious choice. More than this, my mother’s example, that you can always return to academics at any age, expanding your foundation, has always remained in my mind. Her paradigm for life is a large part of what motivates me, the fuel for the fire inside me to pursue a graduate degree in Public Health. As a result of my volunteer work, I learned early the absolute need for, and the intrinsic rewards of not just giving back to the community, but being involved in aiding the poor, the sick and the needy. Those in need deserve so much more than just a handout, but sustainable and ongoing programming that addresses current requirements, as well as preventative measures to ensure fewer need the same aid in the future. Charitable work is something I have been a part of my entire life, starting as a child, then following my family’s example, gaining great personal satisfaction from my contributions, working in soup kitchens, cleaning up playgrounds and public areas, planting trees, helping adults learn to read, painting houses, picking up trash along roadways, and spending time with seniors. Throughout all these experiences, I have gotten an excellent overview of charities, their inner workings, and on many different scales, scopes of operation, both the well-funded and those struggling with every dollar. Realities facing various charities have only increased my adaptability, the ability to think creatively and on my feet. Pursuing a Foreign Service degree in International Politics stemmed from my having traveled the world as a child and teen, tripping across North Africa, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and North America, living and being educated in Turkey, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Iraq, and the US. With every step in these amazing places, I saw beyond their looking glasses, their dizzying array of histories, seeing how inextricably linked we all truly are. Not calling any particular country home, I have developed a worldview that is extensive, neither Western nor Eastern, seeing with my own eyes places many only hear about through the news media, coupled with keeping abreast of global issues, particularly focusing on the political situation in Zimbabwe, the Congo, Ukraine, human rights and drug-related crime in Mexico, and the ongoing tense relations between India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. I place the events I read about on a backdrop of understanding, appreciating how the actions of one country or region affect people of other locales. In terms of my professional experiences, I have maintained two decades of conceptual continuity involved in public affairs, healthcare consultancy, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Throughout this time, working as a part of multidisciplinary teams of professionals, I have welcomed each new challenge with an open mind, consistently moving into positions that afforded me greater responsibility. I have always had a strong desire to make the world a better place and help vulnerable, underserved populations, and the voiceless, and to bring access life-saving health care and resources, to address the greatest plagues of our time, HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, as well as ensuring the basic building blocks of life, food and clean water. To my mind, though, my work to date has not been as personally or professionally satisfying as it could be, going only slightly beyond a means to an end. While I learned the value of communications and the power of campaigns that motivate people and achieve desired outcomes, I did not always agree with the outcomes. In truth, I have decided that I cannot move forward without addressing those in need. Obtaining an MPH, focusing on Global Health, I will be better able to bring my raw passion for helping others to bear, contributing positively to the work of internationally focused non-profit foundations, or an NGO, preferably based in the DC area. In my research, I have read of the amazing ongoing work of the Global Fund for Children, Agency for Educational Development, CARE, PATH, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and NIH. My contributions would include developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating programs that addressed the health and well-being of children, the impoverished, those that suffer from malnutrition and preventable diseases. No work could ever bring me greater satisfaction than being a creative leader for change through agencies such as these. XXXX’s part-time MPH program will give me the flexibility I need to work in the non-profit sector, increasing my exposure and experience in the field, while simultaneously helping to cover tuition requirements. It is understood that XXXX is synonymous with unquestionable academic success, the finest faculty, access to resources, and the greatest opportunities to bring ambitions and dreams to fruition. In the most practical terms, the school’s location is ideal, as well, being physically close to where I intend to work, where I live and where I anticipate working in the future. My professional career has spanned public affairs, healthcare consultancy, and pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, but is based in the private sector. However, it was not until I received an opportunity for a position at a healthcare consulting firm that specialized in developing reimbursement and patient assistance programs for pharmaceutical companies did, I completely realize where my life’s path. Finally, I was transitioning to the non-profit, opening my mind to working for an NGO or governmental entity, and more rewarding – and international – contributions, facilitating the amelioration of many people’s lives. Working in healthcare consultancy, I learned how to create and launch programs that helped to increase patient access to a particular therapy, develop budgets, write standard operating procedures, address IT issues, manage staff, mentoring programs and manage timelines, all within tight deadlines. Simultaneously, I became well versed in Medicare, Medicaid, HMOs, PPOs, state and locally funded programs, reimbursement mechanisms, and medical coding. As in the past, I gravitated to higher levels of responsibility, culminating as an operations manager, handling $2 million in revenue and over twenty agents. Much more than this, though, I valued the opportunity to affect hundreds of patients’ lives, patients who were facing all manner of debilitating and chronic illnesses, finding ways to help them with their reimbursement issues. The intense feeling of accomplishment in overturning a denial or having a patient say ‘thank you’ for helping them through complicated processes was incredibly gratifying. These experiences left me wanting to do more, and on a greater scale. I wondered if I could make a change in a patient’s life, why not an entire community, a region, or an entire nation. To do this, I need to expand my technical skills in public health spheres, broaden my professional contacts, meet like-minded individuals with varied experiences and perspectives from which I can learn, and gain exposure through access to the program’s professional fieldwork, externships, and internships. Moreover, I need exposure to the science behind developing programs that increase access to basic healthcare for developing nations, the mechanisms by which these programs are evaluated, sharpen my grant writing acumen, and expand upon my existing understanding of social and behavioral intervention design and implementation. Whereas I have not participated in research or clinical work, I bring with me over a decade of practical managerial experience in healthcare consultancy, knowledge of patient assistance program development, and operations, as well as unrelenting compassion and dedication to the plight of the underserved. At this time, I would like to take this opportunity to expand upon my current progress in fulfilling mathematics, general biology, and health-related science prerequisite courses. To date, I have successfully completed college level calculus, two semesters of international economics, two courses in psychology, one in sociology, and four courses in foreign language. To fulfill the biology requirement, I will be completing two biology courses well before the June 2009 matriculation, including XXXX’s 4th term Public Health Biology course and a nutrition class at a local community college that begins in January. I look forward to the opportunity to develop myself as a creative leader for public health. Your time and consideration is appreciated and I eagerly await a personal interview. I am an excellent candidate for your program since I hold university degrees in both engineering and nursing. It is the connection between electrical engineering, computer science, internet communications, and software development, on the one hand, and nursing on the other, that forms the core of my professional interest. I am confident that your program will serve as the optimal platform to prepare me to make important contributions to the future progress of health care informatics. My greatest professional asset is that I am an enormously hard worker. I currently hold two professional positions: employed as a full-time clinical RN at XXXX Medical Center in Boston while I have now served for several months as a as a Clinical Software Quality Assurance Engineer with XXXX in Wakefield, MA. Your Certificate Program is the only program to which I am applying as it is the best fit for me, so that I can pursue graduate study while I continue to fulfill my professional responsibilities. Having now had the privilege of working as a nurse here in Boston for over a year, I am especially pleased to have developed an elevated level of skill in providing exceptional care to acute patients, especially those receiving hemodialysis treatments. I am particularly meticulous with respect to ensuring proper follow-up care and responding to patient questions concerning courses of therapy and health concerns. I very much enjoy completing clinical documentation in strict adherence to all organizational and governmental standards—in addition to monitoring equipment functions and reporting all issues and/or deviations. I am especially pleased to report that I earned the Certificate of Recognition for Excellent Patient Care. I also take immense pride in my ability to work independently as well as with teams of physicians, clinicians, and therapists. I look forward to contributing towards the diversity of your program as someone was born and raised in Russia. As a cosmopolitan man and a world citizen who is well traveled—visiting, for example, Italy, France, and Spain, as well as New Zealand—I also have a keen interest in international cooperation in health care informatics, especially between the United States and Russia. At some point in my career, I would very much like to assist the Russian people by helping to enhance their level of health care through technological development. I am closely following developments, for example, since Russian Prime Minister Putin announced a new, large large-scale health care reform to begin in 2011, pledging to allocate more than $10 billion. I believe that I am the kind of applicant that is well suited to your program since I have long distinguished myself in my ability to acquire and apply knowledge quickly and I am convinced that with my extensive background, both academic and professional, in areas of strategic importance to software development in health care informatics, along with what I will learn in your cutting-edge program, I will be prepared to make important contributions to the field of health-related organization. I especially appreciate the flexibility of your program, its compatibility with my other professional responsibilities. I seek much more than preparation for a high paying job. I want to contribute to my community, saving lives and laboring to streamline health care systems and structures. I thank you for considering my application to your program. I am a young man from Libya who is very dedicated to study of hospital administration. I have come to live in the United States primarily to advance my education. I feel very strongly that the greatest contribution that I might be able to make to society would be to devote my life to the improvement of our public health system in my country of origin. My country is now at a great turning point where we will have vast opportunity to rebuild our public health infrastructure in ways that will be able to provide much greater access for Libya’s ordinary citizens and I keenly look forward to playing a key role in the advancement of health administration in Libya. I hold the BS Degree in Anesthesia and Intensive Care Assistant Program from the College of Medical Technology at XXXX University in Tripoli, Libya. After completing 4 years of study, I worked in a hospital as an anesthesia assistant for three years. My hard work and dedication to our patients was rewarded by the fact that I was promoted to ICU supervisor where I was able to implement important innovations in patient care over the course of 1.5 years. I plan to spend most of my professional life managing hospitals in Libya. Ideally, I would like to work long enough for any given hospital to streamline its operations and help to bring it up to international standards in patient care, even standards that rival those in the United States, at least in some point in my career. Then, I would like to move on to another hospital that needs restructuring and the development of innovative programs that respond to current needs and challenges. I want to help my people to rebuild our country which is currently suffering through a drastic situation where many people lack basic health services, with emergency service are still extremely overworked and underfunded. Libya is in desperate need of highly effective health care administrators, especially those trained in the programs such as at the University of XXXX that stand on the forefront of developments in our field. My most important professional experience so far was during my second year of college when several students decided to make the long journey to the southern part of the country to work as volunteers in understaffed hospitals. I was appointed the manager of the operation, and I divided our volunteers into small groups to distribute medicines and vaccines in the most effective way possible. This experience helped me to develop leadership skills and further reinforced my passion for continuing to graduate school in my field. Your program at XXXX is my first choice for graduate study for several reasons, foremost of which is my appreciation for your interactive learning environment. I look forward to the full range of theoretical and practical material that I will cover in your program, all of which will give me the tools that I need to think critically about our challenges in Libya and to learn how to best respond in a pragmatic way with the limited resources that we have available in many given areas of public life related to our health care systems. Thank you for considering my application to your program. MHA Personal Purpose Statement Examples #mha #purpose #examples #healthadministration

I am a 28-year-old man from Nigeria, a doctor, and I am currently serving as the Director of www.XXXX.org promoting medical outreach. I am confident that your program at XXXX University is the optimal master's program for preparing for a career in Health Administration. I want to contribute towards the building of an efficient, affordable, and reliable health care system in my country. Primarily, I hope to contribute towards making health care in my country affordable. Nevertheless, I am also convinced that thinking about health care as a business is also our only sustainable, long-term hope for progress. Among our principal challenges in Nigeria is an acute shortage of health administration professionals. Doctors must be the administrators of our health care facilities on top of their other duties, even though they have neither the time nor the training to do so. Thus, I am applying to your distinguished program because our country is in desperate need of health care administrators for our health care systems to function more efficiently. I plan to devote my life to contributing towards the building of an efficient, affordable, and reliable health care system in my country.  I hope to use the knowledge and tools that I will gain by completing your distinguished program to train health care professionals in Nigeria to be better health care administrators. My long-term goal is to occupy administrative positions in both private and government operated health care facilities. I am an extremely hard worker and my efforts have recently been recognized by the government of Nigeria for the excellence of my volunteer initiatives; I was awarded a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Honours Award from the Minister of State this past February 14th, 2013. Building upon this and other achievements here in Nigeria, completing your program will optimally equip me for a daunting task, contributing towards not only improving health care in Nigeria but making it more affordable as well. At the center of my interest in focusing on health care administration is my desire not only to make health care more affordable, but to do so precisely by making health care facilities profitable through the streamlining of both private and government owned health care operations. Most of our health care facilities in Nigeria are grossly mismanaged by professionals who are very poorly trained and given little to no direction. I recently completed a series of volunteer health activities in Kwali on behalf of a local Area Council here in Abuja, Nigeria. I tagged the volunteer project: Kwali Health Project (KHP). KHP involved free medical exercises in various rural communities in Kwali and the donation of a 5-room health center to the most health deprived communities. This 10-month volunteer health project was completed this past January 2013 culminating with the commissioning of the health center (http://www.facebook.com/XXXX). I completed my medical training at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital in Enugu, graduating in 2010. Then I did my one-year internship in a health facility in Abuja and finished in February of 2012. The following month I began my one-year National Youth Service (NYSC) Program in March (Batch A) with three weeks Orientation at the Kubwa camp in Abuja. I have always had a strong passion to help those that are in need and use the skills I have as a medical doctor to help those who are in desperate need of medical care. When I performed my 3-week orientation for the NYSC Program, I was posted to the Kwali Area Council. I was especially happy about my post because I knew that health services were very much needed in support of the Area Councils. At last, I found myself with a concrete opportunity to fulfill my dreams. In addition to participating in all the activities, I also volunteered at the camp clinic, attending to ailing corps members and NYSC officials. I also participated in the Variety Day March where I represented my platoon, and our display took third place. Serving in Kwali was my own way of giving back to the country that had given me my education and my profession. My greatest joy comes in service and have become a physician because I wanted to make as positive an impact/contribution as possible during my service year. For the first few weeks in Kwali serving in the primary health care center, I interacted with everyone that I could and volunteered for free medical outreach in the surrounding communities. I immediately began applying all I that I had learned in our orientation sessions. Soon, I was also hard at work drawing up a proposal on how to have a positive impact on my host community and I tagged it The Kwali Health Project. I submitted my proposal to about 12 Non-Governmental Organizations in the city and five of them have been supportive. One NGO in particular, XXXX.org, took special interest in my proposal and played a key role in all phases of the project implementation (from planning to execution). They also provided me with major financial support. XXXX stands for Health Advocacy Promotion and Partnership by Youths in Nigeria. This is a flagship name of The GUIHDE Initiative, an NGO dedicated to increasing youth involvement in healthcare development and advocacy. It is worthwhile to note that the bulk of the funds used in executing this project came as free will donations from well-meaning Nigerians. The Kwali Project commenced in April 2012 and ended In January of 2013. The primary Objective of this project was to improve the health profile of the Kwali people in sustainable ways and contribute towards the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals, a series of health-related goals. We provided the people with health education designed to immediately confront some of the principal challenges: HIV/AIDS & TB, Safe water/Food, MDGs 4 & 5, Malaria. We also performed a series of health exercises, such as de-worming, distributed mosquito nets, and trained health workers. I developed monthly health education topics that included discussions of Lassa fever, family planning, safe food as well as water, and immunization. We held general health checkups as well as diabetes and hypertension screenings. The first major medical outreach that I volunteered for, organized by the Nigerian Christian Corps Federation, was for Fugbe in Kundu ward a rural community which is extremely far from Kwali town. In preparation for our mission, we held sessions for our corps members along with various members of the community in Kwali town. I organized all our discussions while I attended to the various ailments of members of the community. The reduction of child and infant mortality, along with maternal mortality from childbirth, was one of central areas of special focus. The Head of the Health Department of Kwali Area Council, Dr XXXX expressed his immense appreciation for my initiative. After completing your distinguished master's program in Health Administration, I will be very anxious to return home to Nigeria and put everything that I have learned to exceptionally beneficial use. I thank you for considering my application to your program. MHA Statement of Purpose Examples #mha #statementofpurpose

I am an experienced microbiologist and hold bachelor's and master's degrees in microbiology. My present goals are to join the MHA degree program and, once qualified, to take up a senior role in government service or within an NGO initially in Canada and in Africa. My overall goal is to make a beneficial difference to health by driving innovation in health systems and strategies. I came to Canada with the intention of pursuing a Ph.D. in Microbiology. However, I concluded that my work and studies in Microbiology, although certainly useful, are narrow in their potential applications. I believe that I can be of much more use by acquiring and applying knowledge and skills in healthcare administration. My work has exposed me to the significant problems that the program seeks to equip students to solve, namely: the extending access to affordable healthcare; improving the quality of healthcare and the promotion of healthy lifestyles and related health education. I have a genuine passion to help resolve these problems. My academic background, which includes awards gained and an exceptional CGPA score will provide assurance that I am an intelligent and highly diligent student who has the potential to excel within the program. My background as a Microbiologist will also enable me to bring some unique and relevant insights to my colleagues in the program. I am an experienced and successful researcher; my undergraduate project was published in a Nigerian peer review journal. I possess the characteristics of a highly effective researcher. I am determined, inquisitive and able to approach problems in innovative ways. The bulk of my research work has been in the relevant areas of health, the cure of disease and environmental effects on health. I am particularly interested in research relating to disease prevention and in identifying and applying effective means of encouraging healthy behaviors. My teaching background has given me insights into the effective passing on of knowledge and in encouraging the adoption of desirable behavior. It has also required me to acquire and exercise the leadership skills that will be vital to my success in the roles that I hope to fulfill in the future. In addition to my professional experience, I have been involved in health-related voluntary activity. The most notable of these was the ‘Stop Aids’ program which was enormously effective and taught me much about the ways to effectively reach and teach ‘at risk’ populations. I have carefully considered the available programs and believe that your own is the best ‘fit’ to enable me to achieve my goals. The program’s emphasis on passing on practical skills is attractive as is the fact that the school’s stated goals mirror my own perfectly. I know that the program will attract many professionally qualified applicants. However, I am an exceptional candidate having demonstrated, in my academic and professional work, the potential to make a significant contribution to the enhancement of health administration.
