For me, the most incredible excitement in life is tackling a problem or issue in the life sciences and solving it by applying scientific principles and techniques. Since I was incredibly young, I have cultivated a single-minded devotion to this field of study in preparation for my career as a scientist, dedicating my life to saving the lives of others. I am primarily devoted to the battle against cancer and hepatitis. I want to pursue a Ph.D. at XXXX because it is the finest program in the world. I am confident that I am a strong candidate for your program because I have completed two years of full-time research as a Research Technologist at XXU. Throughout this period, I have become a highly competent researcher with exceptional laboratory skills. I began working in the lab of Dr. XXXX, performing several techniques such as ELISA, and protein purification, primarily measuring the serum antigen and antibody responses of woodchucks in our investigations of this animal model of Hepatitis B infection. Using similar techniques, I also measured antibody responses in mice and rabbits with the goal of achieving successful immunization against woodchuck virus antigens. My experience with Dr. XXXX´s lab has helped me to master self-discipline, focus, concentration, and the patience required to excel in scientific research. I have also had the enormous privilege of working with the research group in the cancer laboratory of Dr. XXXX, investigating the “Effects of Dietary/Nutrition Components on the Programming of Mammary Gland Developments and its Effects on Breast Cancer Susceptibility.” I find exceptional fulfillment in working towards this cause and mastering the appropriate techniques, such as those involved with Immunohistochemistry, Genotyping, ELISA, and the handling of live mice. I have become adept at working as part of a team and learned the profound importance of the exchange of scientific ideas, questioning, and communication that is required for innovative research. I gained invaluable experience as a master's student working in several labs at Georgetown University devoted to studying skin cancer, breast cancer, and Hepatitis B. I did my summer internship at XXXX University under the guidance of Dr. Cynthia Rosenthal, working on “ID3 protein expression in immortalized squamous cells and carcinoma cells, as well as UVB irradiation and its influence on the apoptosis of cells.” I especially enjoyed comparing UVB effects on the expression of ID3 in different cell types (primary HFK, malignant & immortalized) and the overall effects on tumor progression in vivo by using immune-compromised mice for our model system. This experience helped me to become even more comfortable in the laboratory environment and further strengthened my interest in scientific research. Furthermore, I became acquainted with a variety of related areas of research by working as a part-time research technician for other laboratories at XXXX. Before coming to America from my native India, I completed my undergraduate studies at the P.B Siddhartha College in India, which provided me with a strong background in the fundamentals of Biochemistry, Microbiology & Chemistry, and a profound motivation to pursue these fields as a career. Next, I earned my MSc Degree from XXXX University and had the privilege of serving as an intern at some of India's most prestigious labs such as the IICT and the BARC. In addition to developing a solid foundation in biochemistry, microbiology, and cell & molecular biology, I became highly competent in bioprocess and fermentation technology, protein and genetic engineering, research methodologies, bioinformatics, enzyme technology, and biostatistics. I was able to hone my sense of teamwork finely and had the privilege of presenting numerous papers. Throughout the course of my studies in both India and the United States, I have also supplemented the knowledge and research skills that I have gained through coursework and laboratory experience by attending a variety of seminars and symposiums conducted at different venues on different topics. When I began my master's Program at XXXX, I felt that I had been reborn to a much higher level of existence. Indian laboratories cannot afford the state-of-the-art equipment and facilities that I have enjoyed at XXU and XXU, adding enormously to my sense of privilege. In this program, in addition to the areas already mentioned, I was able to learn a great deal about intellectual property, regulatory affairs, manufacturing practices, and the entrepreneurial face of biotechnology. Thus, I feel as if my entire adult life has been geared towards preparing me for entering a Ph.D. program and becoming a world-class scientist. Upon completing your program, I hope to serve in a postdoctoral position, which will further prepare me for a lifetime of research and teaching. I see myself primarily as a soldier in the battle of life against death. Cancer consumes me because it is consuming my species. I will not rest until I draw my final breath. I thank you for your consideration of my application to your Ph.D. Biochemistry Program. Biochemistry PHD Personal Statement

I have maintained a decade of conceptual continuity in my academic and professional careers. Progressing logically and naturally into increasingly challenging research, I have been left even more eager to perform at the Ph.D. level. Earning the doctorate will enable and inspire me to grow in my current position with Tandem Labs. I look forward to contributing to research in high-energy batteries, I will be improving not only myself personally and professionally, but also aiding Tandem Labs to maintain its industrial status as one of the finest bioanalytical and immunoanalytical CROs. Being proactive, taking the initiative, and confidently leading and motivating the people around me through established positive working culture, I enjoyed a proficient level of success, bolstering my self-efficacy and confidence for my next career move: further development and education. By earning my Ph.D., I will be on course to fulfill my ultimate goals and ambitions, becoming a university research professor and owning and or operating a pharmaceutical company. I want to devote as much of my time as possible to research that will aid in making society work much better, ameliorating suffering through practical, sustainable solutions to the problems we face every day. We all have a conscious responsibility to create the kind of world we want to live in. By establishing a profitable company, we have a social responsibility to help others, hire the right people with the proper education and experience, and help them achieve their potential. I hope to someday return to the classroom as a professor and researcher attached to a university with many opportunities for ongoing research. It would be an excellent opportunity to expose students to relevant, current research with real-world applications since I always search for ways to gather invaluable information and handle large-scale data. Given my professional and research experiences, I have what it takes to become an influential professor. Furthermore, given my experience in Tandem labs, utilizing advanced mass spectrometry, immunoanalytical support, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics, I will be able to bring the latest industrial processes such as preclinical and clinical development program knowledge to bear on bringing my pharma company to fruition. In addition to my two years with XXXX, I have a total of six months of experience conducting both quality control and serving as a senior lab associate for two major pharma research companies. I have an elevated level of cultural competency, which will work well for me in the classroom with international students. I celebrate how America’s classrooms are becoming increasingly culturally diverse. Having been born and raised in Vietnam, and speaking two languages competently, I have a worldview that is different from my colleagues from other cultures, which lends itself to communicating effectively with people of differing backgrounds. I feel that this will aid me tremendously as I work with diverse students, professors, and researchers. In the most practical terms, as a part of my regular duties with XXXX, I have acted as a trainer for all new chemists in the use of LC/MS/MS (API4000, API5000, & Q-Trap) and Infusion (Tune), an extension of my previous experiences with Boston Analytical in which I trained new chemists in the use of HPLC, TLC, UV/spec, Karl Fisher, Dissolution, and pH meter to analyze all small molecules. I bring to the research program an academic foundation that only UXXX could provide, and I have excelled, maintaining a near-perfect GPA throughout my time with UXXX. While completing my graduate research project, I won a US Army contract to conduct further research into high-energy batteries. I am well prepared for and expect an intense learning environment. What many call “the pressures of the job” I find exhilarating and ideal. I see myself contributing to the learning environment in three ways: my cultural competency, a skill I have developed from having been immersed in the cultures of two countries, educated in Vietnam and the US, traveling around America, with a well-rounded worldview that has been permanently altered by these experiences. Secondly, with my solid academic foundation in the sciences, as well as professional research exposure, I feel that my ability to apply scientific analysis to classroom situations will help my fellow students in the development of their methodologies, as I learn from theirs. Thirdly, through my professional experiences, leading projects, autonomously from concept to fruition, I bring practical experience and exposure in the field and the sets of lessons learned through doing. I am applying only to UXX to further my education in an ideal learning and research environment. I have built a rapport with the Chemistry department and feel that I have developed a personal and professional niche. The work of Dr. XXXX in fuel cells and batteries, specifically high discharge rate alkaline batteries, will aid my research invaluably. To date, the UXX classroom has impressed me, filled with experienced faculty and an accomplished student body, and an environment. I have been able to share my own analyses, test the hypotheses of others, and frequently come to unexpected conclusions, learning much through the joint efforts of ambitious minds. It is in the classroom where our missteps can be turned into learning experiences, and in study time, we can reflect on our interactions, integrating them into our distinctive paths. I look forward to an extended relationship with UXX with great eagerness. Thank you for your time and consideration. Chemistry PHD Personal Statement
- Oncology Residency, Chinese Applicant Personal Statement
I was an honors student in one of the finest medical schools in China when I watched one of my closest friends die of leukemia. Observing her death before my eyes, gradually withering away, even after a bone marrow transplant, helped to trigger in me the burning desire to devote my life to oncology. At her funeral, I reflected on the way in which our health must be the highest priority in our lives. Over the years, I have watched with great enthusiasm how powerful new therapies have saved the lives of cancer patients who formerly would have been terminal. By participating in the residency/internship program at XXXX, I will receive the state-of-the-art, advanced training necessary to help develop and apply innovative therapies for various malignancies. I grew up in a tiny rural village, deep in the heart of interior China. Our home was a thatched roof hut quite different from Western standards, yet it was filled with love. I remember coming home from school, wading through a herd of cows and a flock of squawking chickens, lured by the aroma of my mother’s fragrant noodle soup. My parents were humble, hard-working factory laborers who strongly encouraged me to do something different with my life. They always told me never to give up. Their solidarity continues to drive me forward until today. My health issues were another factor in my decision to become a doctor. I had to stay in the hospital with a high fever for an entire month on one occasion, before the annual, highly competitive nationwide entrance examination for university. Due to minimal resources in my hometown school, every year only 5-10% of high school graduates would be selected for university study. If I missed this chance, I would spend the rest of my life in the factory as a technician. I refused to give up and was admitted to medical college. My application is strengthened by the fact that, in addition to earning my MD Degree in China, I also earned Ph.D. Degree in Medicine, which required an additional 3 years of study. Those who work with cancer patients know that the will to live is a crucial element in long-term survival. Along with the advanced scientific training I have already received, I have also developed grit and determination to push ahead despite serious obstacles. In China, we call this “ Rui Zhi ,” (resolute, firm determination). I also hope to impart a deep sense of “ Rui Zhi ,” in my patients, instilling hope, and determination to persevere despite the significant challenges faced when one is battling cancer. I was working as a research scientist in a cancer center until this past April. No matter how much I enjoy medical research, however, I know that nothing is more fulfilling than direct patient care, especially when a patient is cured against all odds. Since I moved to the USA, I have had to adapt to an unfamiliar environment, support my family, and get established, which has taken me several years. Therefore, I am working hard to pursue my dream of becoming a highly accomplished oncologist. Your program offers the best of both worlds; the opportunity to learn the latest breakthrough research while I have the privilege of increasing, intensive participation in patient care. - Medical Social Work MSW Personal Statement
As a veteran of the United States Army, I am passionate about the needs and specialized care of our veterans, who I see as my extended family. To make my maximum contribution to this population, to which our entire country will always have a particular debt, I hope to earn my MSW Degree with a focus on Medical Social Work in general and the issues faced by veterans in particular. I am especially concerned with the problems of suicide and PTSD and the links between the two. At the center of my efforts and focus will be the strategies that have been found most effective and show exceptional promise for the future in helping veterans to learn to deal successfully with their mental health issues, most of all, in the context of their families, as husbands and fathers as well as members of the community. I have served professionally as a respiratory therapist for 13 years after earning my first degree. Here at my day job, I have learned the most about medicine, especially everything related to breathing. This will help me excel and prove an asset as a medical social worker. From August 2013 until July 2020, I served at XXXX Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. I provided critical care therapy, assessment, and treatment and monitored hospital patients with cardiopulmonary issues. I learned how to conduct various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and provide education and referral to additional resources for patients, family members, and my colleagues on the patient care team. As an active member of the Hospital Respiratory Consult Service, we provided specialized assessment and treatment determination. My responsibilities included critical care, bronchoscopy assistants, emergency room, code team, and ECGs - assessing data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpreting information relative to the patient's condition. I would earn my BS and MA Degrees while a United States Army Reserve member based in Scottsdale, AZ (October 2011- November 2017). I was trained to serve as a paralegal specialist for the military police command, providing paralegal support to unit commanders and the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate. I produced legal documents in court-martial, nonjudicial punishments, and other military justice matters, as well as line of duty determinations, separation board proceedings, and other administrative law matters. This experience was formative to my dedication to the goal of helping veterans. It will also be beneficial as a social worker dealing with family issues since I am experienced as a professional in the family law arena, dealing with matters of family assistance, powers of attorney, wills, and separation decrees, etc. The medical side of my education thus far was enhanced by earning my BS in Health Science and Advanced Patient Care at Grand Canyon University. My unique, permanent dedication to family and advocating for families was also greatly enhanced by earning the MED Degree in Elementary Education (2011 – 2014). This will prove to be of benefit in my work with families as a Medical Social Worker. Looking back at my record, I am pleased that I have extensive legal and medical experience since both will serve me well as an MSW professional dealing daily with the legal and medical issues of families. Volunteer work is also close to my heart, and I look forward to always staying engaged. I have volunteered for the International Rescue Committee supporting new refugees to the US. I would take people to their doctor’s appointments and help them understand what was happening and how US health care works. My Jewish grandparents were refugees to this country after fleeing persecution in Hungary in the 1940s. This reinforces my desire to provide exceptional support to refugees beyond our borders. My central professional goal is to be a medical social worker at the VA hospital supporting veterans. I think my veteran experience and extensive experience in health care make me a suitable candidate for medical social work. I’m drawn to positions of service, and my life is enriched by positively impacting the lives of others. About five years ago, I had a patient, an Army veteran in his 40s, who was recently diagnosed with ALS. I saw this patient often and observed how he increasingly became debilitated by his condition, scared, and withdrawn. This patient had little family support and resisted moving to an assisted living facility. I continued to see the patient and provide respiratory care services, and I reported my observations and concerns to the physician in charge of his care. Given our similar experiences in the Army, I felt a genuine camaraderie with this patient, and I was sad that I could not provide more support. At this time, I set my sights on becoming a social worker. As I was preparing to become a social worker, I thought about this patient frequently. With the proper training and experience, I could help people like him navigate a devastating diagnosis better, finding out what they needed to make their lives more palatable and meaningful. I feel strongly that our critically ill veterans should not feel alone when navigating a health care or social service system that’s utterly foreign to them. When people arrive at a place where they feel helpless and don't know what to do, I want to be the person that helps them to optimally navigate their circumstances. As a social worker, I look forward to responding to the psychosocial needs of individuals and families in my community. I also hope to contribute to forming partnerships between community organizations to care for the needs of individuals, particularly those in marginalized communities. The location of XXU will allow me to devote maximum time to my studies. I appreciate XXU's support of veteran students with the XXXX Veterans Center. It would be a special honor to take advantage of the learning opportunity represented by this center. Most important is your program's sheer excellence, as reflected in its national ranking. My extensive experience in caring for a broad diversity of patients, each with unique physical or medical challenges, has enabled me to become familiar with the medical and social needs of the diverse people and groups I look forward to serving. I could not be more passionate about public service and improving the lives and experiences of people in my community, driven by the positive impact I can have on the lives of others. Primarily concerned with social and emotional issues impacting veterans, refugees, and immigrants, I am most interested in medical social work because of my familiarity with healthcare environments and my desire to help patients and family members to navigate healthcare systems by accessing the resources they need I was born in Texas and spent my childhood between Texas and Missouri. I come from a working-class family, the first to attend and graduate from college. I speak intermediate Hungarian and conversational Hebrew. I write better in Hungarian than I do in Hebrew. I have traveled extensively as a tourist, which has enhanced my understanding of culture and cultural cultures. Traveling to my ancestral homeland of Hungary has given me a deeper understanding of my cultural origins. In the Army, I was deployed to Qatar, Afghanistan, and Cuba, where the people I met will forever be etched upon my mind. I thank you for considering my application to Social Work at XXU. #msw #medical #socialwork #personalstatement #purpose #writing #editing #service #rush
- Linguistics PHD Canada TESOL Personal Purpose
An Iranian man, now fifty-five, I am a licensed teacher in Ontario, Canada, where I have an entire decade of experience, primarily teaching English as a Second Language to native speakers of Persian. Earning my BA in my native Iran in TESOL/TEFL laid the foundation for my teaching career, and I taught in Iran for approximately 20 years before making a new home for myself and our family in the West. When I immigrated to Canada in 1998, I earned my Master´s Degree in TESOL at XXXX University in 2004 and then returned to school to earn my teaching credential the following year. At XXXX, I focused on a particular second/foreign language curriculum design. Now, I hope to earn a Ph.D. Degree at XXXX University with much the same focus, ESL/EFL curricula development. I look forward to learning from Dr. XXXX, whose work I admire and would feel enormously privileged to have as an academic advisor. In 2010, we moved to Germany, where I spent two years working towards my Ph.D. in Linguistics under the supervision of Dr. XXXX at the Kathol Ische Universität Eichstatt-Ingolstadt. I was most engaged in my research in Germany, “The Morphological Roots Underpinning Common English Errors among Persian Monolingual English Learners.” Unfortunately, due to a family emergency in Canada, we had to return home to Canada, and I could not finish my doctoral studies in Germany. To better guide the teachers that I supervise who teach English to children that are native Persian (Farsi) speakers, I seek further advancement in inter-language issues that our students bring to the classroom. Thus, I seek a total immersion experience in the roots of common English errors among speakers of Persian. During my education at the UXX, I would like to investigate the similarities and differences that exist on a conceptual basis between Persian and English. I would also like to explore further both languages' lexical, phonological, and grammatical features. My long-term goal is to continue researching education, especially in second/foreign language learning, and find better ways to teach ESL at my school. Earning my Ph.D. in Linguistics at XXXX University would be the best way for me to realize my career objectives. I now hope to do my doctoral degree studying under the guidance of Dr. XXXX. Thank you for considering my application to XXXX. Linguistics PHD Canada TESOL Personal Purpose

I feel confident that I have the academic and professional background that will enable me to excel in the master's degree program in Finance at XXXX University. My experiences allow me to share valuable and relevant insights into fields where I have demonstrated success. Soon, I will have completed the requisite courses for your program at XXXX University, along with a C++ programming course from XXXX College. I look forward to excelling as a programmer supporting ongoing developments in Finance. It has always been my intention to acquire the skills, knowledge, and experience to enable me to make a highly positive contribution to my employers’ goals. I am increasingly drawn to a field where I can provide direct and measurable benefits to a client base. I am aware that the aging working population creates an urgent need for specialists who can make prudent and profitable investment decisions on their behalf to maximize their retirement income and provide them with life-long security. My professional dream is to become a multi-asset portfolio manager for an investment management company, applying multi-asset strategies in diversified portfolios to maximize risk-adjusted returns while mitigating the downside risk cost-effectively through dynamic portfolio construction models. Advanced technical knowledge alone will not enable me to achieve my goals, but my unique personal characteristics and traits must complement this. Among these are a highly analytical approach to problems; the ability to think initially and creatively; the willingness to collaborate successfully with a wide range of specialists; and the ability to listen, lead and inspire others. I possess these characteristics and have demonstrated them in my academic and professional careers to date. My recent roles have provided me with considerable experience that I believe is relevant to the program and my goals. My three years working in credit and financial risk management have furnished an understanding of the fundamental importance of active risk management and quantitative analysis. I have worked on the balance sheet's asset and liability sides. I spent two years in a portfolio risk team managing the risk for the loan and lease portfolio of Hyundai Motor America. I oversaw loss forecasting. I applied the knowledge from Econometric classes to interpret the logit models. I was fortunate to work on transitioning from IAS 37 to IFRS9 and ran scenarios for CECL. I am currently Treasury Risk Senior Analyst, managing the liability side risk of the balance sheet and interest rate risk via derivative instruments. I have been allowed to research and implement the hedging program to fix the interest rate exposure and minimize the Profit and Loss volatility. I was born and raised in Vietnam until the age of fourteen. Fully fluent in Vietnamese and English. I have happily studied, worked, and socialized with people from many cultural backgrounds. I am particularly attracted to the master's in finance Program at XXXX University because of the especially distinguished faculty, the comprehensive curriculum range, and its relevance to my aspirations. I seek a challenging but supportive academic environment and look forward to maximizing opportunities for internships that will enhance my exposure to the Finance industry. Thank you for considering my application to Finance at XXXX University. MS Finance Personal Purpose Statement, Programming
- MFA Dance Personal Statement, Artist, and Dancer
Born in New York and raised in Connecticut, I have made my home in North Carolina for the past X years, continuing to advance my career as an artist, a dancer, and a teacher. My goal is to earn my MFA at XXXX University with a focus on dance, complementing the two master's degrees that I have already earned, first an MS in Organizational Management in Vermont and my MA in Art Business at Sotheby's Institute of Art in London, England. I am convinced that my more than 25 years of experience as an artist and dancer will enable me to make valuable contributions to discussions at XXXX concerning dance and its relationship to the broader academic and art worlds of our times. Now, with more than a quarter of a century of professional experience centered on dance – performing, teaching, and choreography, I have become proficient in various dance techniques and styles and have become accomplished at teaching dance. I delight in the relationship between dance and culture. I now want to focus on the visual aspects that impact dance, keeping it alive and developing as an integral part of the culture. Research stands at the center of my long-term professional plans, especially interdisciplinary research into disabilities associated with aging. I look forward to traveling as part of my research and teaching and passing on the torch to new generations of artists and scholars. Few things excite me as much as the prospect of teaching dance, movement, and visual culture, serving in a uniquely creative environment where research and departmental growth are revered, and collaboration between professors, students, and other departments is encouraged to maximize artistic choice. I hold certifications in Yoga, Gyro tonic®, and Gyro kinesis® and have performed with diverse dance companies and many musicals. My passion lies in Contemporary, Ballet, and African dance techniques. The choreographers that I have worked closely with include Patrick LaCroix (Massachusetts), Kelly Holcombe (Connecticut), the Alvin Ailey Student Group (New York City), Pierre Matras (Zurich), Misato Heimann-Inoue (Bern), and Maja Zurbuchen (Bern). My foremost mentors include Arlene Begelman, Ana Marie Forsythe, Kevin Wynn, Gerrie Houlihan, and Irene Tassembedo. Presently I am rehearsing with Gerrie Houlihan for an upcoming performance at XXXX. This February 29th, I will give an intention-based Gyro kinesis class as part of the Culture Mill's Black History Month Celebration in Savannah. Dance is composed of streams of movement and pauses and has been a steady constant in my life. Academically and professionally, I have maintained over two decades of conceptual continuity, developing myself as an artist and a human, made up of different streams of movement and pauses. I now crave the opportunity to gain further academic experience and professional preparation by earning my MFA in Dance at a state-of-the-art university such as XXXX, where I plan to become a more vital conceptual thinker and learn to focus my energy better to make my maximum contribution to society. I hope my background and extensive experience will enable me to contribute to the rich tapestry of the XXXX MFA in Dance Program. I look forward to interdisciplinary collaboration and access to a robust support system of solidarity and cooperation between artists, thinkers, and esteemed scholars in performing and visual arts, sociology, and health studies. This will prepare me for the rigorous investigation of dance, movement, visual art, and healthy aging through trans-disciplinary research, in its method of creating, publishing, and performing for the greater good through exploring social issues and engaging with the community. Many beautiful experiences in learning as an undergraduate student at the School of the Museum and Fine Arts and the XXXX School of Dance helped me synthesize my voice with my visual and performing arts creator abilities . However, as someone who fully embraces lifetime learning, my current education level fails to offer me adequate opportunities to continue advancing as an artist and educator. Thus, I need to earn the MFA to regain my momentum as an intellectual, teacher, and dancer. I have lived amongst many different people and their cultures at various socio-economic levels. My work with various adult day facilities as a coordinator of activities, director, and dementia practitioner, particularly with Parkinson's Moves initiatives, has given me a great desire to encourage and assist people in engaging in practices beneficial to themselves and their society – especially as they age. Obtaining an MFA in Dance from XXXX will provide me with a platform to share my findings through teaching, publishing, performing unraveling, expanding, and reinventing my practice. After earning my MFA at XXXX, I am incredibly excited about the possibility of teaching at a collegiate level . It will inspire and empower me to give back my absolute best to the Arts, my profession, and my society. Thank you for considering my application to the MFA in Dance Program at XXXX. - Master’s Statistics, Data Analyst with Math Degree
XXXX University is my first choice among master's degree programs in Statistics for distinct reasons ranging from the location to the sheer excellence of your program. I am a perfect fit with XXXX University. My central areas of academic and professional interests are centered on predictive response modeling and optimization, primarily through artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques. Giving my all to the study of Statistics and its applications for science and industry is what I see as the most significant contribution that I can make to society. I am especially keen to learn about the many ways that Statistics can serve to improve our lives in everything from pharmacology, public health, and genetics through commerce and manufacturing. I hope to learn to think creatively about applications in many of these areas to advance my capacity to contribute as much as possible to my profession. I am particularly fond of Bayesian inference as a technique that enables us to encode expert opinion and domain-specific knowledge into information systems, with beliefs interacting with data to constrain the details of the model in question. I find it extremely exciting to use Bayesian inference to make predictions when the model doesn’t provide a clear answer but a distribution of workable solutions, allowing us to assess the risks more clearly . I take great delight in how Bayesian inference opens a broader spectrum of statistical analysis than when limited to the frequentist or classical methods. I especially appreciate how spatial statistics has become very robust due to progress in data visualization, with enormous potential to highlight patterns in data interference. I look forward to decades of digging into issues and opportunities in Statistics and its applications that help us advance as a global society. My undergraduate major is in mathematics, but since I knew I wanted to go to graduate school in Statistics, I have taken graduate-level courses in Statistics and Data Science to prepare. This gives me confidence that I am ready for the rigors of study at XXXX University. A good student who always makes my studies my top priority, I have the academic foundation that will enable me to excel at XXXX. After earning the Master’s Degree in Statistics at XXXX University, I hope to gain many years of professional experience and look forward to working in a variety of industries with numerous applications, making full use of what I have learned, and putting my creativity to the test, always giving my all on behalf of the sustainable advancement of my employer. This will enable me to better understand my strengths and weaknesses in terms of what I must contribute to an organization, thus helping me focus on what I do best, the area of excellence in which I will make my mark on my profession. I will enter the full-time professional workforce as a data analyst and work my way up to the level of highly experienced data scientists laboring in extensive data management. I will earn my BS in Mathematics this May of 2019, and I hope to begin graduate school the following semester at XXXX University. Thank you for considering my application. - MA Teacher Education Personal Purpose, ESL
The MA Program in Teacher Education at XXXX University is my first choice for graduate school because I am a good fit for your program. I especially admire your global perspective, mission, and appreciation for diversity. I hope to earn my MA in Teacher Education at XXXX because of your focus on innovative educational practices, curriculum development, and evaluation strategies. I am a teacher from India entirely devoted to lifetime education and looking forward to decades to come as a teacher of teachers; my professional plans include becoming a teacher and advancing pedagogical initiatives online. I have a fond vision of laboring to open a brick-and-mortar educational institution for underprivileged children in India. I look forward to serving as an educator for many decades, staying current and focused on the best teaching and learning practices teachers can implement, particularly concerning new learning strategies. English is essential to me as a teacher since I see the cultivation of fluency in English as central to India's future prosperity. For this reason, I have taken several classes online in TESOL from Arizona State University. This graduate academic experience will help me excel in your program at XXXX and prepare me for a professional life as a researcher in Indian pedagogy, since English is a national yet second language in my country. I have worked as a Verbal Instructor for GMAT and GRE examinations for more than two years. Previously, I worked as an English Language instructor. My education and professional experience thus far have helped me cultivate my critical reasoning and analytical skills, and become adept at collaborative research, empirical testing of competing hypotheses, problem-solving, and effective written and oral communication. I have always been keen on experimenting with training methodologies to develop increasingly effective strategies that appeal to students. Last year, one of my students scored a near-perfect 340 on the GRE using these newly devised approaches. I have long taken courses to enhance my academic advancement. Currently, I am enrolled in an online course, “Learning How to Learn,” through the University of California. In 2017, I completed an online course called “The Science of Everyday Thinking” through the University of Queensland. I earned my bachelor's degree in English literature focusing on Linguistics in my final year, earning a degree in December 2017. I am also currently pursuing my PG Diploma in Natural Language Processing. My country, India, is projected to overtake China as the world’s most populated nation by mid-century. Yet, India is vastly underdeveloped and does not invest adequately in its education system. I hope to be accepted to what I see as the most progressive MRED program on the planet at XXXX because you concentrate on Environmental Design with a creative focus on sustainable, global development. With an undergraduate degree in Integrated Marketing Communication and a double minor in Business and Art, I am convinced that I have been focusing my energies on ways to help me excel in your program. I have also intensively studied interior design and project management, and I now have a decade of experience in my field, contributing to development in Qatar. I have been involved with land purchases, studying the market, developing land design and construction strategies, interior and furniture design and manufacturing, project management, marketing kits, advertising design, and acquiring financing from banks and other lenders. Coming from Qatar and planning a lengthy career focused primarily on my country's unique challenges, I am concerned primarily with construction challenges that arise for one dedicated to sustainable development in a scorching climate with limited water resources. I consider everything green to be something I want to learn about as much as possible, particularly regarding Real Estate Development, Architecture, Urban Planning, and Environmental Design. The unsurpassed quality of the education that I hope to attain at XXXX will prepare me for a professional lifetime, assuming leadership roles in my country to increase awareness of and implement environmentally friendly policies and initiatives for the Middle East, and Qatar in particular. The implementation of environmentally friendly policies and initiatives for the Middle East and Gulf Region lags far behind that of the West. I hope to gain a more sophisticated understanding of the potential utility of AI for sustainable organic design for a green background. I seek lifelong professional advancement that helps my artistic capacity to grow and my entrepreneurial skills to advance in accordance with the circumstances of the time and location, particularly concerning less-developed areas in the Middle East. Large parts of the Gulf Region have been at war for some time. War rages now in Syria and Yemen, with Iraq undergoing massive social unrest and Lebanon threatening to become highly unstable. Saudi Arabia and Iran are now in an exceedingly grave if not unprecedented state of tension. Thus, I contemplate the need for intelligent design to help the region survive brutal wars lasting for extended periods, resulting in millions of refugees, some of whom remain without housing for decades. For me, giving back to the planet and going green are both the future of sustainable business and a moral obligation. I am particularly passionate about the possibilities in 3D imaging for contributing to the sophistication and effectiveness of our industry worldwide. I look forward to serving as a role model for women in the Middle East whose presence remains limited in public life. I hope to serve on the board of a real estate development company or establish a company that distinguishes itself as a pioneer in Qatar's virtual real estate sales and management. Finally, but perhaps most importantly, I also see Environmental Design and Real Estate Development as my social service to those in my society who face the most significant obstacles to living to the fullest. Foreign laborers, often referred to as guest workers, most Filipino, Indian, or Bangladeshi, represent the most marginalized segment of the population in my country and throughout the Gulf Region. Many of our guest workers from these countries live in substandard housing and face other obstacles to a life with dignity. I look forward to spending the balance of my life putting what I have learned at XXXX to work on their behalf, designing and implementing initiatives to improve the living conditions of our foreign nationals. I am also most passionate about opportunities in my field to improve women's lives, especially single mothers. Thank you for considering my application to the MRED + D Program at XXXX University. Like many young people, my life goal was to do good for others in a career, and, fortunately, an aptitude and passion for the sciences led me to train as a physician. I have never regretted this decision and feel privileged to be a member of a profession that is of such benefit to humanity. I studied at the Universal College of Medical Sciences in Nepal, a first-class medical school linked to a large and well-equipped teaching hospital. Having graduated in 2015, I interned for seven months in Emergency Medicine. I learned how to provide timely and excellent care under the supervision of caring, dedicated, skilled practitioners and as part of a well-coordinated multidisciplinary team. Since arriving in the US in mid-2016, I have undertaken several observer ships and externships in various specialties. I have also worked as a lecturer in USMLE Prep. Center’, and currently split my time between roles as a Physician’s Scribe, a Research Assistant at XXXX State, and a Telemetry Technician working with cardiac patients. Two of my internships in the US have been in Internal Medicine. I have very much enjoyed internal medicine because it calls for a comprehensive approach, which I strongly endorse. The opportunities to provide adequate preventative health education, the intellectual challenges in making timely and accurate diagnoses, the exciting and constant advances in the development of diagnostic tools and therapeutic techniques, and the teamwork involved all attract me to the specialty. However, I seek a career involving constant and substantial patient contact that I love and excel in. I have been exposed to the unique health needs of the poor and marginalized in Nepal, and I particularly wish to work with such populations. My goal is to acquire extensive experience as a specialist Internist and then find a clinic in an area with a scarcity of high-quality health provision or work in a hospital providing care to marginalized populations. I have thoroughly enjoyed the research experience gained to date. I believe that the characteristics of a good researcher, such as determination, critical thinking, originality, creativity, communication skills, and teamwork, significantly overlap with those called for in an excellent internist. I would not be making this application if I were not convinced that I possess these comparatively rare characteristics and the potential to develop them further. I am particularly interested in research relating to CHF and applying the skills and knowledge I am acquiring as a Telemetry Technician. I have sought as much exposure to the US medical environment as possible and believe I am acquiring an excellent understanding of it. I have happily worked, studied, and socialized with people of many cultural and social backgrounds in Nepal and the US. I fully appreciate the vital need for cultural sensitivity and awareness in the specialty; I enjoy learning about other cultures and sharing knowledge of my rich heritage. I am particularly attracted to the XXU program because my work there has involved contact with the impressive student body, the excellent faculty, and the exceptional facilities. I seek a highly challenging but supportive academic environment and am confident that this will be provided. The breadth of the curriculum and program structure is also an excellent ‘fit’ for my purposes, particularly the opportunity to study cardiology, an area of particular interest to me as a sub-specialty. I can assure the reader that I shall apply myself with exceptional diligence and enthusiasm and seek to ‘add value to the program. When I decided to pursue a career in nursing 20 years ago, I knew deep in my heart that if I became a doctor, I would be able to make my most significant professional contribution. Thus, when I became a nursing professional, I also set my mind and heart on eventually becoming a doctor; and I have now completed medical school, several post-graduate training programs, and my USMLEs. Born and raised in the Philippines and now a citizen of Hong Kong, serving as a doctor for the last several years has made me hungry to receive special training in the medicine I want to specialize in Dermatology. My Christian faith also drives this goal with its focus on healing. In addition to Hong Kong, my most recent observer ship at the Medical University of Graz in Austria has helped me understand the complexities of practicing medicine in a multicultural and multilingual setting. Along with my three months in Austria, I spent six months in Berlin, Germany, and finished medical school in England. While currently based in Hong Kong, I frequently travel to Thailand, the Philippines, and Switzerland. I hope to complete a one-year transition program that will prepare me to be accepted to a Dermatology residency program. I see Dermatology as the specialty where I can best use my multicultural/multilingual background. I was still a child when I acquired keloid from a BCG injection. What started as a small bump enlarged into an ugly skin problem that I found terrifying, embarrassing, and uncomfortable, adversely affecting my self-esteem and confidence. After intralesional steroid injections, keloid excisions, and radiotherapy, I was left with emotional and physical scars. Having first-hand experience with how a simple skin problem like keloid could have a negative, long-term effect, even for a lifetime, was one of the foremost factors that set Dermatology at the forefront of my mind and heart. My mother was diagnosed with psoriasis, and my husband contacted alopecia areata Universalis, both of which have indeterminate treatments and prognoses. Being the medical professional in the family, I often accompanied them during clinic consultations and assisted with administering medications. I learned to observe whether lesions have improved or worsened, whether there were new-onset lesions or the much-dreaded flare-ups. After becoming a doctor, I worked in various clinical institutions, one of which was a premier plastic surgery center in Hong Kong. I assisted the surgeon in performing facial procedures such as dermal fillers, Botox injections, Thermage, and other cosmetic procedures. Along the way, I cultivated gentleness along with skill, bringing me profound joy. As a medical student, I enjoyed the visual inspection that accompanies the physical diagnosis, using my visual and tactile skills. I want patient contact, as I am naturally very sociable and enjoy working with my hands. My talent for optical recognition will help me to excel in Dermatology . My German national husband is highly supportive of my goal of receiving further state-of-the-art training in Dermatology, noting that it will benefit medical missions. I have already gone on two missions to Africa and hope to return to t he Developing World which needs dermatologists to attend to the underserved suffering from various skin disorders.
