  • Unveiling My Purpose: Applied Statistics Masters Personal Purpose Statement

The Master's in Applied Statistics Program at ____ University is my first choice since ____ is close to where I live, and I would have the full support of my social network and support base. Thus, I would be able to take advantage of the entire immersion experience possible, giving myself entirely to Statistics 24/7. Chinese Applicant Statement of Purpose Sample, Applied Statistics Born and raised in China, numbers have stood at the center of my world since childhood because Mathematics was always what I did best and still do. Since early adulthood, I have increasingly gravitated towards Applied Mathematics as a focus, especially everything related to Statistics. I could not be happier fully engaged in the use of numbers and symbols to solve real-world problems. Applied Statement of Purpose Sample I am a Chinese student who has completed his undergraduate studies in Statistics, Actuarial Science, and Mathematics at the University of ____. Thus, I have had the opportunity to build a solid foundation in Statistics, including Advanced Calculus, Ordinary Differential Equations, Probability, Data Analysis, Multivariate Analysis, Time Series, Stochastic Methods, etc. I graduated from UT with honors and went on to work in the banking industry. In my third year at UX, I completed an internship in the development of Marketing models at the Analytics Resourcing Center, and I dove headfirst into the fascinating world of Big Data. I conducted customer segmentation analysis with huge volumes and high dimension data, campaign analysis, and promotional design for retail chain stores using Machine Learning techniques. This experience opened my horizons concerning advanced modeling techniques and helped me understand how to abstract statistical models according to business needs. After graduation, I worked as an Actuarial Analyst for the local School Board. I mastered the Mixed Effect model while working on a one-year statistical collaboration project on reduction in neuron cell experiments during my last year at UX. I now appreciate how the Mixed Effect has an enormous advantage over the General Linear Model. Furthermore, applying a Gradient Decent approach, I optimized the model for my purposes and was delighted with the results. I soon realized that I have a gift for detailed statistical modeling and nothing brings me greater joy. This is where my passion lies. Chinese Applicant Statement of Purpose Examples Since this position requires documentation of how each statistical decision is made, I have a chance to investigate numerous details about each algorithm. The most exciting part of Statistics for me is the challenge of finding ways to harness the power of scientific data to predict real-world phenomena accurately. I see Statistics as a science capable of overcoming all kinds of challenges in the quest to maximize the utility of information. I have experienced firsthand how advanced statistical techniques can resolve data challenges in the industry. I look forward to a long professional life as a researcher in the statistical modeling industry, discovering and resolving statistical challenges. For my purposes, Statistics is a scientific tool that harnesses the power of numbers to solve real-world problems. My diverse work experience in multiple industries has enabled me to gain exposure to various modeling methods, including but not limited to the classical linear model, machine learning, and stochastic process. I have wrestled with many kinds of data challenges, from hundreds of observations that do not fit any frequently used distribution to billions of observations in thousands of dimensions. I thrive on the challenge of finding scientific ways of making less intuitive data accurately predict real-world phenomena. I have used multiple machine learning techniques in Python and R platforms; and observed the pros and cons of cases while comparing different modeling methods. I appreciate how retail risk models are long-term, predictive power-driven. Accuracy, explanatory power, and conservatism are equally important. I fully understand how, within the range of linear models, scientific support for each decision is needed; coefficient analysis between triple or quadruple interactions must be conducted; and how the survival and loss model is often of great utility. I am always inspired by and engaged with the latest research topics, reading myself to sleep every night, even under a full workload and constant pressure. I especially enjoy the quest to prove the usefulness of a methodology via statistical and mathematical methods. I have always been committed and dedicated to what I love. I was given to music in my early years, trained to become a professional classical pianist, and came close to that dream. However, while I sometimes play to destress, my music is entirely in my head, symbols, numbers, and real-world goals in big data. Most of what I play these days is Jazz, in which I am self-educated. This inspired me to begin a non-profit music media company in my second year of college. I am also an accomplished programmer in R, Python, and SAS. I think of programming as part of the music that I want to make in the future. I appreciate your consideration of my application to Applied Statistics at XXXX University. • LLM Sample Personal Statement, Indian Applicant

Dreaming of Law School in America Coming from a poor country like India, predicted to overtake China with the largest population in the world by mid-century, I am familiar with the great challenges that are present in justice and the law. I hope to earn my LLM Degree at the University of XXXX because of the sheer excellence of your program as well as its location. I see your especially distinguished and rigorous LLM Program as the ideal springboard upon which I might realize my dreams of working towards greater justice for the common person, especially in my troubled country of origin. I appreciate the importance of your mission and curriculum, especially concerning issues of gender and social justice, sexual orientation, freedom, and oppression. I look forward to contributing to discussion of diversity and social justice at the University of ____ as an Indian woman who is extremely passionate about social justice and equality, and painfully aware of the great legal challenges that we face, especially in India and particularly as concerns women. The Indian constitution provides all citizens the right to free legal aid if they cannot afford it; nevertheless, illiteracy remains a major hurdle which keeps many people from utilizing the legal resources that are made available to the people. To bridge this gap, I spent most afternoons of my undergraduate years planning and setting up bi-annual awareness camps for our local rural community to increase awareness of their legal rights and to provide them with free legal services. This way, I was able to put into daily practice many of the valuable things that I was learning in college, taking courses such as “Public Interest Lawyering, Legal Aid & Paralegal Services” and “Human Rights and International Law.” My professional as well as personal identity has been defined by multiple volunteer work experiences with non-profit organizations. Studying “Women and Law” helped me to realize my womanist mission as an integral part of the contributions that I hope to make in the arena of social justice, seeking legal remedies for the special problems and challenges faced by women. I began my journey at a non-profit called “Sadhna Sewa Vihar”, working for the professional and academic development of women and acting against atrocities committed against them: sexual harassment, domestic violence, etc. The two months I spent with the organization were a life-changing experience for me in many ways and further reinforced my passion for community service. There were at least 20 to 30 cases reported every day to our organization, and I found most of the victims had almost no clue about the legal options available to them. I was working as part of a team of five people and my job was to talk to the victims, write their complaints down, and file reports to our supervisor. In some cases, the victim went to the police, but the police refused to write the complaint, thus providing us with a legal opportunity to do so – referred to as a First Information Report - in conformance with Indian Law. Sometimes we had to send a letter to the Superintendent of Police informing him that the police station had refused to register the complaint, requesting that strict action be taken immediately. This was usually helpful but not always effective. I also served as part of a special project conducted by this NGO, where we set up a camp in a local village in India to make the locals aware of their rights and to help them find remedies or to seek redress for cases of violation of those rights. Some of the stories of these women were so horrific, I couldn’t help but think that, although we have a legal right to gender equality, there is still a long way to go in India before this will fully translate into practice. Though child marriage is illegal in India, it is still being practiced in some backward areas. It is also illegal in India to accept a dowry, but there are several cases where the women or girls have been tortured by their in-laws for the dowry. A 13-year-old girl who was constantly tortured by her in-laws for dowry, was denied her rights by the police when she tried pressing charges. We helped her to file the complaint, and we also filed a case in the civil court challenging the validity of the marriage, rendering it canceled. I also worked on several cases where the women were tortured because of giving birth to a girl child. One woman was forced to abort her child because the child was female. Since prenatal sex determination is illegal in India, we filed a complaint at the local police station against the ultrasound clinic that performed the procedure and helped the girl to file a complaint against her husband for domestic abuse. LLM Personal Statement Help Since I graduated in 2013, I have held various volunteer positions with “Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital”, “Gramin Vikas Seva Sansthan”, “Delhi State Aids Control Society”. I have also worked with two NGOs in Morocco, Voice of Amazigh and Prometheus, where I helped with the writing of grant proposals. I authored a research paper that was submitted to the United Nations, a study of two different cooperatives and the work they are doing, how they are meeting the UN Millennium guidelines. Morocco has 12,000 co-operatives with 450,000 small businesses for locally produced products providing much needed employment for women. Gender inequality is one of the serious issues that Morocco is facing and I prepared outlines for workshops on this topic. Girls end up leaving school before completing their educations to fulfil other obligations such as getting married or helping their families. We have the same problem in India, and I was able to understand the issue and connect with them. Earning the master's in human rights in the LLM Program at the University of ____ will provide me with the optimal springboard for advancement as a human rights advocate and legal professional. At U of ____, I will develop and refine the analytical skills and expertise that I need for working in the NGO sector. I have an experience with NGOs working in the field of upliftment of the poor, the economic empowerment and legal protection of women, and taking actions against exploitation; thus, I hope to have interesting examples of issues to share with my fellow students as well as professors, contributing to class discussions. I believe I would be a good fit with your program because I am most excited about taking courses concerning human rights, public education, and gender equality; always searching for increasingly effective ways to safeguard human rights. I am especially moved by the work of organizations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch and would be particularly honored at some point to serve as a human rights educator for such an organization. In my experience, the most common reason people are denied their rights is a lack of knowledge. I want to educate the public about human rights by organizing public awareness events and campaigns. My experiences as a volunteer for various NGOs have reinforced my faith in the importance of the fullest respect for human rights possible, and the potential of our legal systems to protect it. During the program at U of ____, I especially look forward to involving myself in research in the areas of gender equality and public education – with as much field work as possible. Thank you for considering my application to your distinguished LLM Program at the University of ____. LLM Sample Personal Statement

  • PHD Social Work Mental Health Counseling Example

My professional research interests are primarily in empirically based mental health treatment models to assist children and adolescents with mental health issues and delinquency behaviors. __U is my first choice for earning a Ph.D. because I am a good fit for your program. While I admire all the social work faculty in your program and find myself especially inspired by the research of several faculty members, Dr. ____’s work on the identification and program evaluation of evidence-based clinical interventions is precisely the area in which I hope to make my mark in life and distinguish myself as a social work professor and researcher.  Working with and learning from ____ would help me develop advanced research skills in creating, implementing, and evaluating clinical models, especially for clients of color. PHD Social Work Mental Health Counseling Example Originally from India, I am the first in my family to earn an undergraduate, much less a graduate degree. Coming from the humblest circumstances in India, life was hard for us in our new world, New Jersey and Queens, NY. Yet, my humble beginnings and the financial struggle of my family in inner-city America served as excellent preparation for a social work professional, as I see it, because it has resulted in my sympathetic understanding of and creative thinking about techniques for survival and uplift of minorities in our inner cities. I am one of them, and I identify as such. Truly blessed to have had the privilege to travel throughout much of Europe, Morocco, Australia, and most of South America, I have come to appreciate and celebrate diversity wildly and to understand the complexity of cultural factors that underlie behavior. I date my intense passion for studying Psychology and Human Behavior to about the age of fifteen. By the 11th grade, I was hooked. My psychology teacher even sent a letter to my parents highlighting my potential in this area and how I had gone “beyond my peers” in this subject. My love for research took off in leaps and bounds as an undergraduate student, 2007 -2009. For 14 months, I was involved in a pilot research project working with Dr. XXXX, assessing a random sampling of people and their attitudes concerning factory farms, studying the relationship between preconceived notions of factory farms and the person's decision to consider or act upon that knowledge.  Dr. ____ gave me enormous responsibility in assisting with his research, and I felt most honored by his trust.  I collected in-person surveys, analyzed data, and scripted a research paper. While the subject of this study was not within my area of principal scholarly interest, I gained invaluable experience in the fundamentals of conducting a clinical research project. This experience will help me to excel with a doctoral dissertation one of these days, hopefully at __U. PHD Social Work Mental Health Counseling Example After earning my Ph.D., I look forward to a long professional lifetime examining the efficacy of treatment models for clients of color searching and assessing for successful outcomes. In addition to program implementation and evaluation within community-based organizations, I also intend to remain engaged throughout my career with creating evidence-based modalities that can be delivered within the school system since my focus is on children and adolescents. I completed my Masters's Degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2012 and became a Licensed Mental Health Clinician in the State of New York.  I have now worked in the field of mental health treatment for about eight years, serving as both a clinician and a supervisor. I am convinced that this extensive experience will help me to excel in your distinguished doctoral program at __U. As a multisystemic therapist, I have worked with parents, teenage children, and defense attorneys to make a case for evidence-based mental health treatment as an alternative to incarceration. I am an Indian woman who is very much concerned with the unique mental health challenges that tend to confront recent immigrants to America, particularly people of color, especially Asians. I hope to become a crusader with my Ph.D. from __U to help make mental health care more accessible for populations that tend to be excluded from our mental health systems. In New Jersey and New York, in addition to growing up in India, I have witnessed the stigmas and barriers that that tend to prohibit members of communities of color face from accessing culturally sensitive mental health support.  I have seen my mother battling depression and acculturation stress due to immigration and separation from her family of origin.  I have become retroactively aware of how my 12-year-old sister was a victim of constant bullying for two years because neither her parents nor the school system was able to engage effectively to protect her.  These days, when I hear my clients suggest that the “system does not work for us,” I know exactly what they mean. I feel strongly that the mental health community in America should be entirely representative of the population to the extent this is possible. There is widespread agreement that we need more clinicians and leaders in our field who are people of color. While earning my Master's, I worked in Queens, NY, one of the most diverse places in the world, for four years, serving with the Queens District Attorney’s Family Justice Initiative. Seeing how trauma affected children up close and in a sustained fashion helped me to understand the strengths as well as the failures of our system. I am happy that being a woman of color helped me gain the confidence of many of the traumatized children of color that I sought to help. After earning my master's, I decided to immerse myself in culturally-inclusive, evidence-based teaching and in October of last year, 2015, I became the Program Director for ____ in New York, overseeing our school-based Mental Health Services Department, operating 12 programs in NYC schools with 11 clinicians implementing best practices that have changed the negative trajectory of several families and adolescents of color who otherwise would have ended up mired in the justice system. As a result, I have gained a deeper and more macro-level understanding of how important it is to provide evidence-based mental health treatment on a state and national level to lower the numbers of young people going from school to the prison system. My commitment and zeal for advocating and supporting families, leadership skills, and knack for organization enable me to excel at what I do, and I have confidence that I could distinguish myself at __U. The ____ School of Social Work is my first choice for graduate school because I see it as the best fit with my passion and goals for the future. I am in love with NYC and cannot imagine a more exciting place to live and work. I see your especially rigorous program at the ____ School as the best option to prepare me for a lifetime of model development and implementation, teaching and supervising future clinicians, enhancing my leadership skills, and helping me to better appreciate the complexity of social justice issues and the need for outcomes that meet acceptable standards of social justice. I aspire to build upon my current program development and implementation skills to obtain leadership positions on both state and national levels, joining in policy debates and advocating for additional funding for evidence-based mental health programs in school. I also hope to teach with special attention to the training of clinicians of color and issues of cultural sensitivity. Thank you for your consideration of my application. • My Journey to Ophthalmology: Embracing Vulnerability and Connection

The first surgeons were barbers. During my clerkship year of medical school, I approached every specialty with an open mind. I wanted to prepare for my choice of medical specialty, one that aligned with my inquisitive character and passion for medical technology and surgery. The breadth of internal medicine attracted me, but the challenge of surgery was equally compelling. Before and during my undergraduate program in biology, I spent considerable time cutting hair. Haircutting was therapeutic for me. It helped me stay present, focused, and calm, even when my hands were busy. I diligently cultivated my hand-eye coordination and depth perception. I was fascinated to learn that the first surgeons in England were also barbers—the “barber-surgeons.” I sought a specialty that matched my inquisitive nature and my love for surgery. Discovering My Passion for Ophthalmology During my ophthalmology rotation, I quickly recognized something special about this field. I found myself waking up earlier, trying harder, and reading more for pleasure. I often reflected on these signals. They illustrated the psychological concept of “flow.” When one reaches this state, whether in athletics, studying, or operating, time seems to stop. One becomes incredibly attentive, “in their zone.” Whether observing microsurgery, manipulating the slit lamp, or immersing myself in the intricate details of the eye, I felt “flow” more intensely than ever before. Time stopped, replaced by sheer excitement and a yearning to provide optimal treatment. Ophthalmology captured my heart, and I knew this was the specialty where I could make my greatest contribution to medicine. The versatile skill sets of the distinguished Ophthalmologist The Importance of Connection in Medicine I adore how ophthalmology requires mastering a broad variety of skill sets. These include a listening ear, a comforting touch, and soothing words. The practice of meditation, which we engaged in during our Mindfulness in Medicine group in medical school, was particularly intellectually stimulating and personally gratifying. It trained me to be a keen observer and a patient listener, allowing me to ponder life from various perspectives. One evening at the surgical center, I spoke with a patient who was about to undergo a full-thickness cataract transplant. I noticed her uneasiness and fear. She avoided eye contact, kept her hands folded, and twiddled her thumbs. After asking the necessary questions, the resident and I returned to see her before surgery. We discovered there was more to her than just the operation. She was a mother of three beautiful kids, an accomplished pilot, and her favorite food was chicken tikka masala. While she was scared about someone operating on her eye, our visit calmed her fears. We simply listened and acknowledged her concerns. The hugs and thanks we received reaffirmed the importance of working not only with our hands but also with our character. Ophthalmology: Embracing Vulnerability and Connection My central goal in life has always been to find meaning, purpose, and authentic connection with those around me. However, as a medical student, I initially felt what Dr. Brown describes as “excruciating vulnerability.” After extensive internal reflection, I confirmed what Dr. Brown suggested in her research on vulnerability. My sense of vulnerability also gave me courage—the courage to be imperfect and human. I, along with the faculty and residents I worked with, felt that my Step 1 score did not represent who I truly am or what I am capable of accomplishing. Step 1 humbled me. It allowed me to embrace vulnerability more fully. Paradoxically, Step 1 helped me become more confident, ambitious, and relatable. I now possess the kind of drive that Dr. Brown suggests is the “birthplace of innovation, creativity, and change.” Conclusion: A Commitment to Patient Care Ophthalmology is not just a specialty; it is a calling. It combines my love for surgery with my desire to connect deeply with patients. I am committed to providing the best care possible. I believe that understanding and addressing the emotional aspects of patient care is just as important as the technical skills required for surgery. Thank you for considering my application to your distinguished and competitive ophthalmology residency program. I am eager to contribute to the field and make a meaningful impact on the lives of my patients. Ophthalmology: Embracing Vulnerability and Connection

A well-crafted MSW statement highlights your passion, experience, and goals in social work. It can set you apart from other applicants and increase your chances of acceptance. Here are practical tips to help you write a standout MSW personal statement that truly reflects your journey and aspirations. Your MSW statement should: Explain your motivation for pursuing social work. Showcase your relevant experiences and skills. Demonstrate your understanding of social work values and ethics. Outline your career goals and how the MSW program fits into them. Admissions officers want to see your commitment to helping others and your readiness for graduate-level work. • Understanding the Role of Linguistics in Communication

Communication is a fundamental part of human interaction. It allows us to share ideas, express emotions, and build relationships. But have you ever wondered what makes communication effective? The answer lies in linguistics - the scientific study of language. Linguistics helps us understand how language works, how it evolves, and how it shapes our communication. This article delves into the role of linguistics in communication and highlights its significance in everyday life. The Significance of Linguistics Importance in Communication Linguistics is more than just the study of words and grammar. It examines the structure, meaning, and context of language. This knowledge is crucial for improving communication skills in various settings, from personal conversations to professional environments. For example, understanding phonetics (the sounds of speech) can help in learning new languages or improving pronunciation. Syntax (sentence structure) knowledge aids in constructing clear and coherent sentences. Semantics (meaning) ensures that the intended message is accurately conveyed and understood. Moreover, linguistics helps decode non-verbal cues and cultural nuances that influence communication. This is especially important in multicultural societies where language barriers can lead to misunderstandings. By appreciating the importance of linguistics , individuals and organizations can enhance their communication strategies, leading to better collaboration and fewer conflicts. How Linguistics Shapes Effective Communication Linguistics provides tools to analyze and improve communication in several ways: Clarity and Precision : Linguistic analysis helps identify ambiguous or vague language. This allows speakers and writers to choose words that convey their message clearly. Language Development : Understanding how languages evolve helps in adapting communication to changing social contexts. Cross-Cultural Communication : Linguistics studies cultural influences on language use, helping avoid misinterpretations. Language Disorders : Knowledge of linguistics aids in diagnosing and treating speech and language disorders, improving communication for affected individuals. For instance, in business communication, using linguistics principles can enhance marketing messages to resonate better with target audiences. In education, teachers can apply linguistic insights to support language learners more effectively. What are the three purposes of linguistics? Linguistics serves three primary purposes that directly impact communication: Descriptive Purpose : This involves describing how language is actually used by speakers. It helps in understanding real-life communication patterns without imposing rules. Prescriptive Purpose : This sets rules for how language should be used, often seen in grammar guides and language education. Theoretical Purpose : This aims to develop models and theories explaining the nature of language and its functions. Each purpose contributes to a comprehensive understanding of language, enabling better communication practices. For example, descriptive linguistics can reveal regional dialects that influence how messages are received, while prescriptive linguistics ensures standardization in formal communication. Practical Applications of Linguistics in Daily Life Linguistics is not just academic; it has practical applications that affect daily communication: Language Learning : Linguistics provides methods for acquiring new languages efficiently. Technology : Natural language processing (NLP) in AI and voice recognition relies on linguistic principles. Translation and Interpretation : Linguistics ensures accurate and culturally sensitive translations. Conflict Resolution : Understanding language use can help mediate disputes by clarifying misunderstandings. For example, when using virtual assistants like Siri or Alexa, linguistic algorithms interpret spoken commands to provide accurate responses. Similarly, translators use linguistic knowledge to maintain the original message's tone and meaning across languages. Enhancing Communication Skills Through Linguistics To improve your communication skills using linguistics, consider these actionable tips: Expand Vocabulary : Learn new words and their precise meanings to express yourself better. Practice Active Listening : Pay attention to how others use language, including tone and context. Study Grammar and Syntax : Understand sentence structures to avoid confusion. Be Aware of Cultural Differences : Adapt your language to suit different cultural contexts. Use Feedback : Ask for clarification to ensure your message is understood. By applying these strategies, you can communicate more effectively in both personal and professional settings. The Future of Communication and Linguistics As technology advances, the role of linguistics in communication will continue to grow. Innovations like machine translation, speech synthesis, and sentiment analysis depend heavily on linguistic research. Understanding language at a deeper level will enable more natural and meaningful interactions between humans and machines. Furthermore, as societies become more globalized, the ability to navigate multiple languages and cultural contexts will be invaluable. Linguistics will remain a key tool in bridging communication gaps and fostering understanding. Exploring the role of linguistics in communication reveals its profound impact on how we connect with others. Whether through improving language skills, enhancing technology, or promoting cultural awareness, linguistics plays a vital role in shaping effective communication. By embracing the insights offered by linguistics, anyone can become a better communicator and contribute to clearer, more meaningful exchanges in all areas of life.

  • Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia and Water Supply Engineering Your master's Program in Environmental Science and Engineering at ____ University of Science and Technology is my first choice for graduate school because I want to remain in Saudi Arabia rather than returning to the West, especially since I have already spent six years in the USA advancing my education and gaining professional experience. I like the fact that your program at ____ University is all in English; I excel in this language and think and act internationally in English as a scientist and professional. I see English as indispensable in addition to Arabic as a vehicle of global communication. Your curriculum is the best fit with both my short- and long-term interests and goals; and ____ clearly has the leading program of its kind in the KSA. I especially appreciate the thoroughly interdisciplinary character of your program. By earning the Master’s Degree in Environmental Science and Engineering at ____, I will be well prepared to serve for a few years as a Project Director/Manager/Officer and then hopefully go into business for myself in the area of water, finding, producing, storing, cleaning, etc., everything having to do with water on the one hand, and engineering on the other. I look forward to helping Saudi Arabia to stay at the forefront of developments in water resource technology and security. Saudi Water Engineering Saudi Arabia is one of the driest regions in the world, with no perennial rivers. The fact that our country depends solely on desalinated water leaves us highly vulnerable in the face of population growth, climate change (Global warming) and economic and industrial development. Thus, Saudi Arabia must take certain measure to safeguard and secure our water supply for the safety of public health as well as economic and even cultural development. Much of our success in the future will depend on the degree to which we are able to optimally use and save water, especially conventional water resources like ground or rainwater that is desperately needed for irrigation. I am also concerned with the fact that Saudi Arabia lacks a proper water distribution infrastructure in most urban areas, having to depend on trucks in some cities to deliver water. Water in Jeddah is more than one hundred times as expensive as it is in Riyadh, which has a water distribution network. Even more worrying are the hidden costs of our failure in Jeddah to install an adequate water distribution system. In cities such as Jeddah that lack the kind of distribution system enjoyed in Riyadh, traffic is a fundamental problem, primarily because of the presence of so many trucks on the roads. Furthermore, trucks burn diesel and emit harmful gases which present increasing public health risks. Trucks also damage the roads, requiring large investments in infrastructure maintenance. I could not feel happier about my central professional goal in life, doing everything possible to contribute to providing every human being on the planet with clean water – beginning in the KSA. If accepted to your distinguished program at ____, I will have the opportunity to learn from the expert's and to be guided in the creative evolution of my ideas, ideals, and aspirations to make my maximum contribution to Saudi Arabia and the world. After completing your program, I hope to become a Project Officer in water and urban development, working for a project sponsored by my current employer, the Islamic Development Bank of ____. Water Engineering in Saudi Arabia Most passionate about the human need for and even moral right to clean water as the foundation of human sustenance and dignity, I am a very hard-worker and nothing excites me more than helping my community to prosper and develop. I also want very much to become part of solving related global issues - particularly poverty and hunger. I am as well read as I am travelled with abundant knowledge not only in water supply but also sanitation, biopharma (Cancer Drugs) and graphene production. I have spent significant amounts of time in Turkey, Egypt, and the UK as well as America. In my present position with the in Jeddah, working in the Infrastructure Department in the Division of Urban Development & Services, I develop a project plan using a SMART Sheet program to better manage water supplies and execute sanitation projects. Much of my day is spent preparing briefs and presentations for flagship projects and coordinating with other departments. Thank you for your consideration of my application to ____. Water Resources and Environmental Engineering

  • LLM, Chinese, Corporate Governance

Studying Corporate Governance in Law School I am a Chinese woman with a great passion for law, and this is the greatest asset that I hope to bring to your distinguished LLM Program at| ____ University. My love for the field of law sustained me through my studies even though I had to undergo stomach surgery shortly before my final exams to become an attorney in the People’s Republic of China (PRC). My English has dramatically improved over the years, largely because of working with native speakers of English in addition to spending a full year studying law in English in Hong Kong. Thus, I feel confident that I would be able to excel in your program. I was raised in Jiangsu Province which is close to Shanghai where I was born. I spent over 7 years in Beijing, 4 years of law school and three working for a top law firm after completing my LLB Degree from the Beijing University of Technology and Business. I have also earned the Master of Common Law Degree (LLM) from the University of Hong Kong. I now want very much to study in America. I have been to California and focused early on ____ University as my first choice for study in the US, due to its prestige, renown, and how extremely impressed I have been by lawyers that I have worked with who have graduated from your program. Securities Law in the LLM Degree I am especially interested in corporate governance, especially securities law in the United States with respect to both private and public sectors. After graduation, I would like very much to gain further experience by working for the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) in the U.S. I look forward to returning to China and practicing as a US-trained lawyer and continue to develop a life-time involvement with the forefront of securities law. My long-term goal is to shoulder a great deal of responsibility working for the China Security Regulatory Commission, utilizing the knowledge I hope to gain from my education and experience in the U.S. I hope to contribute to the reform and ongoing modernization of securities regulation in China, and I feel strongly that your program at ____ will provide me with the optimal foundation for this life’s work. During my Law School days in Beijing, I voluntarily helped minority public shareholders in the securities market who suffered losses due to misleading or fraudulent disclosures made by public companies, reviewing legal documents and preparing litigation documentation. I continued this volunteer work after graduation. I pushed myself extremely hard to acquire an increasingly sophisticated understanding of the shortcomings in China’s securities regulatory system, constantly searching for ways to improve it.  This has proven to be an invaluable, foundational experience that has made me an increasingly pragmatic professional who stays focused on practical issues and given me an exceedingly prominent level of maturity for someone at this point in my career. I very much look forward to contributing to the diversity of your program as a PRC qualified lawyer, and in this way contribute to discussions of comparative legal systems, always with an eye towards the special strengths, weaknesses, and challenges facing the PRC corporate governance system. It is my sincere hope that my time spent at ____ will provide me with the optimal foundation for contributing to the improvement of this system. Towards this end, I also look forward to learning from other students from all over the world. Since June of 2010, I have been working with _____ LLP as a legal assistant. I advise foreign fund managers and assist associates with the preparation of legal documents, attending drafting sessions, preparing the initial draft of prospectuses as the issuer’s counsel, working on revisions, and responding to comments from the SEC and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Corporate Governance in Law School I am an easy-going person who is always willing to go that extra mile to help others. I feel very strongly that the greatest contribution that I might be able to make to society would be to serve as a member of China's securities authority, reviewing listing application documents with an eye to eliminating trash and fighting fraud in publicly listed companies in China. I want to devote my life to protecting public investors and helping to establish a more efficient securities market in the PRC. I am well read and well-traveled, both for business and pleasure. I have visited several law schools in the U.S. to decide where to apply to an LLM Program.  ____ is my first choice because of its strength in multiple areas: mergers and acquisitions, initial public listings, and debt offering to private equity practice. My mother suffered a tragic loss in the securities market in China by buying the toxic securities of a public company listed in our stock exchange, because of fraudulent financial statements.  As a second-year law student at that time, I was shocked that the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) did not recognize this fraud at the time of listing. I encouraged my mother, together with other victims, to seek monetary compensation through litigation. I actively participated in the litigation, helping lawyers to prepare the lawsuit.  This was my first experience with the Chinese judicature and the real-world practice of law. Despite our efforts, the outcome was disappointing, and the complaint was rejected due to a lack of supporting regulations and these public shareholders were not even granted the right to sue. I was angered and deeply saddened by these regulatory deficiencies in corporate governance and securities regulations in China. Nevertheless, this experience gave me a wealth of knowledge and the ability to look at these kinds of legal issues from a practical as well as a theoretical perspective. It was at this point that the laws and regulations that I had been studying in textbooks became much more than just words; they became vivid and alive in the courtroom with each word spoken by the judges, and the arguments presented by legal professionals.  Also, it made me more interested in finding out the reasons for that situation.  Furthermore, my legal efforts on behalf of these shareholders attracted the attention of the faculty of law and I was granted the honor of serving as a Professor's Assistant (PA) in Corporate and Securities Law, doing research and giving classroom presentations. Earning the LLM Degree at the University of _____, one of the most prestigious law schools in Asia, opened the door to the common law system of the Western world for me; and I was most impressed by the efficiency of Western legal systems in protecting people's legitimate interests through the integration of case law and statutes.  I feel strongly that China has much to learn from the West; and I ask for admission to ____ so that I might have the honor of devoting my life to helping my people prosper, fostering honesty and highly functional standards and processes that will protect our hard working people who invest in the market. I thank you for considering my application to your distinguished program at ____.
