XXXX University is my first choice to continue my education at the PHD level in the area of Health Promotion because I feel strongly that your program represents the optimal platform for me to be able to make my fullest professional contribution. A Saudi woman who could not be more enthused about and engaged with health promotion, especially with respect to Saudi Arabia, I am deeply dedicated to my society and its people. Thus, I am very troubled by the fact that despite being a rapidly developing society in many ways, many Saudis continue to make very poor lifestyle changes often leading to premature death from preventable conditions. In preparation for my career contribution, I have already earned my Master’s Degree in the USA in the area of Microbiology and Immunology (M&I) and I feel most confident that this experience, along with giving my all for 10 months in a hospital laboratory - will enable me to hit the ground running and excel in your distinguished doctoral program in health promotion at XXXX University.
I feel that by having completed the Master’s Program in M&I at XXXX University in 2015 and staying current and up to date in my independent reading, will help me to hit the ground running and excel in your distinguished PHD Program at XXXX University. Earning the PHD in Health Promotion is the perfect way for me to fulfill my calling as someone who could not be more dedicated to helping society to stay fit. I am a self-motivated, determined, and I feel strongly that a PHD in Health Promotion will provide me with a well-rounded education including all of the specific knowledge and research opportunities that I will need to continue to make progress towards career advancement even long after finishing graduate school.
I am pleased to report that health promotion is now finally receiving the attention of the government of Saudi Arabia. While many like myself see this as long overdue, we are nevertheless grateful for the progress since it represents great hope for all sectors of society, rich and poor alike, that suffer from lifestyle choices that could be me addressed by health care sectors and public service agencies public and private. We are only now beginning to do better in this regard and I am excited about being a participant in this new struggle to make Saudi society healthier through the promotion of health in creative campaigns utilizing a variety of media. I hope to focus much of my own efforts in this regard on health promotion in our educational institutions. I am keenly looking forward to the fullest immersion experience possible in the research concerning how to best promote healthy lifestyles, especially through the use of social media. My long-term objective is to contribute all that I can to making the inhabitants of Saudi Arabia more health as a result of the promotion of healthy lifestyle choices.
I lived in the USA for 4 years, including the time that I spent bringing my English ability up to the point where I could perform at a high level in my Master’s Program. Thus, I anticipate that my most difficult hurdles are over and I can give myself 24/7 to my studies in Health Promotion. This is especially so since I have been granted a full scholarship from the Saudi Ministry of Health. My Master’s program provided me with an advanced grasp of theoretical understanding in biology and threats to public health, along with practical approaches. I finished the program as an accomplished and most enthusiastic researcher.
Now 29, since childhood, my parents have encouraged me to read, learn and seek knowledge, leaving me thirsty for more. I have cultivated a creative imagination and the ability to think independently for almost as long as I can remember. I seek further professional training, the knowledge base and skills sets that I will need to think globally and act locally in the face of difficult challenges, barriers, cultural prejudices that I will need to overcome. Saudi Arabia is a very conservative place, and many of our poor lifestyle choices are rooted in sacred traditions.
I have a special interest in Saudi Arabian women and the unique health challenges that they face. My special concern is the alarming increase in autoimmune disease occurring among Saudi women. I addressed this issue in my Master’s Thesis dealing with “The Role of Cytokines in Hashimoto Thyroiditis.” Throughout my life, I have learned that my purpose has been to trigger change in the fields I have had interest in, particularly in organization and leadership, in an effort to transform the society positively. This is a feeling that has seen me trying to give back to the society using the knowledge I have acquired over time from different levels of learning and practical experience. Earning the PHD in Health Promotion at XXXX University will equip me with the prerequisite knowledge and leadership skills that I need in order to serve as a highly effective organizational leader, integrating organizational principles, management and leadership training.
I thank you for considering my application to Health Promotion at XXXX University.
