MS Biochemistry, Reproductive Health, Leadership, Chinese Applicant

I am a biochemist from China who works as an IVF Coordinator. I did not have a particularly strong interest in reproductive science when I accepted the post however, as my work has progressed, I have developed a passion for this field of work. I always wished to ‘make a difference’ rather than just make a living and this work has provided the opportunity to make that difference by assisting those seeking to fulfill the common human urge to have and to cherish a child of their own and it is enormously satisfying. As my interest has developed, I have taken every opportunity to learn about the latest developments in the field and now wish to acquire the higher skills, knowledge and research experience through the program that will enable me to increase my capacity to ‘make a difference’ in the lives of many. I now hope to be selected to study towards the MS Degree in Biochemistry at XXXX University.

My ultimate goal is to become the director of a reproductive health organization with the aim of providing world class care and services that will set a standard in the field. To achieve this aim, it is my intention once I have completed the program, to successively study healthcare administration, business analytics and psychology whilst working. I am very excited by the advances being made in A.I. and by its potential applications in this field of work. I also hope to assist in the development of the awareness of reproductive and sexual health among women in China with the aim of reducing STD’s, infertility rates and unsafe deliveries while promoting personal health and safe family expansion.

I have worked at the Reproductive Medical Center for about a year. I was delighted that my early progress resulted in my being given early independent responsibility for cases after my first month of work. My duties call for me to liaise with physicians and patients throughout the whole IVF cycle and to report the results to patients including the final PGS report. Clearly the work calls for exceptional sensitivity and empathy because of the enormous importance of the outcomes to the patients. I have been very fortunate to work with some of the best physicians in the field including Dr. Samuel Wood whose technical expertise is complemented by enormous patience, kindness and wisdom. He has taught me much in both these aspects of the work we undertake.

I am also aware of the general importance of cultural awareness and sensitivity in the provision of healthcare services. I am of Chinese ethnicity and understand the feelings of those who come from an outside culture. I have happily studied, worked and socialized with people from many different cultures and social backgrounds. I enjoy learning about new cultures and sharing knowledge of my own rich heritage. My native language is Mandarin, I am fluent in English and have a basic fluency in French.

I understand the fundamental significance of research in this field of work and am very keen to assist in research projects. I believe that I have the potential to become a good researcher. I have an ‘eye for detail’, I am capable of original and creative thinking, I am analytical in my approach to problems, I am determined but flexible in reaching my goals, and am happy to collaborate with others to achieve a common goal.

I have been involved in various volunteer activities including work in a medical clinic in Peru, working with autistic young people here in the U.S. and in encouraging low income/1st generation high school students to apply for higher education. I intend to extend my experience of helping those less fortunate than myself throughout my academic and professional career. I have also sought to acquire leadership experience and skills to equip myself for the roles that I hope to fill in the future through involvement in a number of UW societies. I am also an experienced and confident public speaker.

I try to be a ‘well-rounded’ person and pursue a number of interests to this end. I am a prize-winning piano player and singer, I enjoy swimming, horse-riding, tennis and volleyball. I am also a yoga practitioner. I have carefully considered the avenues open to me now to acquire the skills and knowledge required to enable me to achieve my goals and your program, with its comprehensive curriculum and its emphasis on the development of critical thinking skills and on research seem to me to be the ideal fit for my purposes. I hold a highly relevant Bachelor degree and professional experience which will enable me to ‘add value’ to the program, however my most important asset is my genuine passion for improving reproductive health. I can assure the reader that I shall apply myself with exceptional diligence and enthusiasm in order to excel within the program and in my career beyond it.

Thank you for considering my application.
