MCIT Master's Computer and Information

I could not be more excited to be standing on the threshold of a technological revolution, with unprecedented, powerful, innovative technologies such as AI and ML that are radically transforming our world as we know it. I hope to take full advantage of these developments. Thus, I now very much hope to earn the master's degree in computer and information technology (MCIT) Degree studying online through the University of ____ (U_). I most look forward to the innovative education that I will receive in my MCIT program and the decades of service to my society and community after its completion.

For the last five years, I have been at the forefront of conducting scientific research focused on bioaerosols in the Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences Ph.D. program at Purdue University. I have successfully developed a new device for detecting airborne pathogens (tuberculosis, legionella, sars-cov-2). I contributed to the “Development of a size-selective sampler combined with an adenosine triphosphate bioluminescence assay for rapidly measuring bioaerosols.” The investigation was published in the Journal of Environmental Research. While analyzing experimental data, I occasionally used RStudio, a software console and syntax-highlighting editor that supports direct code execution for statistical calculations and plotting tools. The R-software significantly enhances the efficient organization of my research, which helps me to draw precise conclusions. Throughout graduate school I have increasingly come to admire and respect computer technology, especially analytical tools that enable the seamless and efficient distribution of environmental and health-related determinants and events. I adore the way that advanced techniques in CS can make all aspects of human life more accessible and less time-consuming, contributing to an improvement in healthcare, education, defense, and infrastructure development. Determined to make beneficial use of CS, I hope to help bring about profoundly positive change in the lives of as many people as possible, lowering product costs and increasing accessibility. I am especially enamored with machine learning and statistical modeling for resolving environmental and ecological challenges.

Information Technology is the central driving force of global development resulting from innovative digital strategies that lower effort and maximize output. I credit the online course that I took at U____ “Introduction to Python Programming” for intensifying my interest in the subject. I quickly fell in love with the various tools for writing and running Python. My analytical and problem-solving skills took off as I became increasingly adept at hands-on coding exercises, using data structures, writing custom functions, and reading and writing to files.

I thrive at independent learning online and hope to continue online to earn my MCIT Degree. I have always experienced profound satisfaction in using logic to solve complex problems. The more complex the problem, the more satisfaction I feel, breaking it down into smaller, more manageable parts and integrating solutions to address each piece of the puzzle. This love of problem-solving is one of the reasons why I have found myself drawn to the field of Computer Science. Another motivation for studying CS comes from my expertise in logic and other reasoning-based subjects such as math, physics, and data analysis. These subjects captivate me because they promote the importance of learning through constant engagement with real-world issues.

For my Ph.D. dissertation project, I developed a novel method that allows people to measure pathogenic bioaerosols in 25 minutes without growing bacteria. The device's design includes precise calculations using advanced Math and Physics functions. For complicated loop functions, I learned to use MATLAB® R2017 with Simulink, a sophisticated programming and numeric computing platform used to resolve issues. My math and data analysis skills improved due to Statistical Methods and Appl Regression Analysis courses. I was pleased to be selected as a Teaching Assistant for Fundamentals of Epidemiology, a graduate course, and to go on to earn a Graduate Teaching Award in recognition of my outstanding contribution to learning by the Teaching Academy and Office of the Provost of Purdue University.

As soon as I began reading about U____’s MCIT Online program designed for students like me without a CS background yet who wish to advance professionally in a way that requires advancing their skills extensively in CS. I feel most confident that I am ready for your rigorous program and prepared to give my all. I keenly look forward to learning all I can about the fundamentals of CS, architecture, systems, data, etc., to make my maximum contribution to research in environmental health. I could not be more excited about giving my all to the fundamentals of data structures, software design, and software architectures and design patterns. Scaling computation methods will enhance my capacity for handling everyday data analytics tasks and programming models for specific computational tasks. I look forward to becoming a highly effective and adept software engineer and data analyst thanks to U____.

After completing the program at UPenn and gaining additional experience, I look forward to putting my CS skills to work by building my own consulting company. Hence, I am excited about taking an elective course in your business management and entrepreneurship program. I also plan to bring my math skills to a new level of sophistication with the Fundamentals of Linear Algebra & Optimization: linear regression, data compression, and support vector machines for further study in machine learning and computer vision. I hope to harness data analysis programming for epidemiology and environmental science as fully as possible to work on innovative research data analysis and develop innovative applications. In this way, I hope to contribute to the development of applications that will serve to advance frontiers in Epidemiology, Environmental Health, and CS.

Complimentary to my academic research experience thus far, I have also developed advanced networking skills and have grown fond of presenting posters, conducting oral presentations, and working to improve professional networking. A first-place winner of the Best in Show Award, along with the Ken Dillon Award, from the Biosafety and Environmental Microbiology Committee at the American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Exposition (AIHce) in 2020, I was also the second-place winner of the Graduate Student Oral Presentation at the American Industrial Hygiene Association’s (AIHA) Chicago Student Night.

I hope to continue my education at U____, following my graduation from the Ph.D. Program at Purdue this coming December of 2021. I will fully devote myself to my academic experience at U_ with an unwavering focus and determination. I aspire to contribute to class diversity due to my varied experiences, rich expertise in environmental research, and innate passion for learning. I could not be more convinced that the MCIT Program at UPenn will be the optimal springboard to fulfill my long-term aspirations of engaging in research in environmental epidemiology using AI and innovative data analysis in our never-ending search for new and improved applications.

Thank you for considering my application to the MCIT Program at U_.
